  1. Good read, You are absolutely right about most of us giving up! When I took apart my first reel and serviced it down to each individual piece and put it back together it did not work. I repeated the process and enetually gave up. It happened again with a high end reel with new technology but I calmed myself this time before giving up and actually left it for a complete 24hours before re-attempting. Turned out one of the pieces which would seem to be directionless was in fact not and I had it in upside down...would never have known if I hadn't individually removed and flipped the parts that could be flipped one by one to see if it fixed the problem. Fantastic feeling of accomplishment when it's all said and done. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  5. I watched a doco recently that said they've recorded temperaures at the shock wave made by these guys as hot as the sun itself...pretty crazy. Apparently it's this shock wave that does the damage.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. Cheers, I'll stick to the two hooks it seems to catch plenty anyway.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  7. Excellent point to make, I use two singles. Is 3 the maximum? I can never remember Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  8. This is pretty cool! I had no idea about it but I think I'll probably be on this thing quite a bit now haha thanks [emoji1] Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  10. Do some research mate, you will find literally every manufacturer and reel maintenance specialist strictly recommends one drop. I'm referring to the internals by the way, bail arms and line rollers can have 2 or 3 drops but spraying your reel with oils is not a good idea. It will corrode your paint and actually suck dirt and salt into the places you are trying to keep clean and slow you're reel down a heap. Shimano and Daiwa and Penn all advise against it and advise one drop of oil is more than enough...I tend to believe them. They do say you can spray some oil onto a rag and rub that over you're reel after washing to protect you're paint but be careful which ones you use, as I said some of them will actually eat your paint away. 11. Yeah it doesn't help having everyone's bins out over the last few days without any garbos to pick them up. Driving through Avoca this afternoon I could see almost every house had an oveturned bin spewing rubbish down the street...anyone have any news on the strike? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  12. I nearly got the one you are talking about but I just don't need the gps in estuaries...I use landmarks instead and I am pretty certain that you can add a gps unit to the model I have for another 100 or 150 if I'm not mistaken. I guess it depends whether you want to fish in big open waters or places you aren't familiar with. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  13. My neighbours 4acre property is 1m under water creating a 4acre pond joining to Narara creek...almost considered throwing a line over the fence for some mullet hahaSent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  14. It's definitely one for the ducks today. Went out to Terrigal to see what 6.5m of swell looks like on the beach...the waves were breaking too far out to even see the caps. Few kids riding bodyboards down the skillion at speed. The bottom of my street at showground road has been closed since this morning Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. I've got a lowrance elite chirp 4 in my kayak which shoots straight through the kayak hull and its brilliant for the $250 I paid, the temparute takes a few minutes to adjust to what the water is actually at and if its really humid it can be 1 or 2 degrees above the true temperature but unless you're chasing tuna that shouldn't be an issue. I run a small 12v battery on it and have used it for a solid 20hours without needing to charge it. The biggest thing to pay attention to is the ah rating for the battery that you use. 16. I've heard inox is a thinner oil than the majority of reel oils which is good for the bearings (just remember one drop is more than enough). I actually use Protecta for oils and Arby's reel butter for the gears but heard inox was better.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  17. So I'm watching this rain and it doesn't seem like it will let up today, I live right on Narara creek (just up from the tackle shop) and we have a king tide tonight around 11pm. Might be the closest to flooding we have been for a while...hopefully we don't have to evacuate the horses and chickens again. How's it looking for others near the water? 19. Yeah right I thought it looked a bit different to the bigeyes I'd seen but I'm not sure about tea leaf, from what I've heard they're a pretty distinctive looking fish. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  20. Try jumping onto youtube and searching "soft plastic fishing techniques" it can be a very helpful resource. Don't give up it does recquire a bit of practise. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  21. I managed a few on poppers chasing jacks in brisbane but I stupidly only brought light winter breaming gear =/ I thought about trying to rig up a home made popper with what I could find lying around but decided my time was better spent fishing with what I had. Definitely will come back more prepared next time now I know where they like to hide. Thanks for the replies guys Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. Couldn't believe my luck! Especially when it was forecast to rain the entire week we were up here and haven't seen one shower! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  23. Beauty thanks for the clarification! Certainly had me testing my skill on 6lb in the oyster leases Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  24. Anyone familiar with GT's and Bigeye Trevally? Pretty sure I got a few juvenile GT today but not one to call it if I'm unsure so I'll leave it up to the bioligists and northern waters guys Here's a bigeye from yesterday for comparison Cheers Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  25. That's not a bad silver trevally Tara, would have been a decent fight on the light gear! It can be quite painful when you don't get out for a while can't it, I've been getting into doing my own maintenance on reels (starting with the old cheapos and working my way up) to keep my sanity levels up when I can't get out for whatever reason. Awesome feeling to put your mates onto a fish thought isn't it? Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
