  1. Were you just keeping the rod on the one angle and using the reel to just wind the fish in? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  2. Well done mate and thanks for letting her live another day! Those salmon are much closer than you think, I caught three yesterday but could see schools of around 100 cruising past the shelf all day. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  3. No worries Neil heres the link I've got it spooled with 20lb braid right now but have used 30lb before matched with a Dobyns Savvy Rod to target mangrove jack and barra but have never really used it for anything else. Now that I understand the reel a bit more I probably will be getting a new one for salt and keep the Curado for freshwater to target cod and barra. Because I use my saltwater gear almost daily now I just wouldn't feel confident that it would hold up to the salty conditions as well as another option made solely for saltwater. 4. Thanks guys, Sam- it was right out the front of the skillion. It's very calm there this week, the swell is under 1m and the wind is blowing at your back and very lightly at times. As for the pelagics, I definitely don't mind if they stay around a little longer! [emoji1] Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  5. The place is on fire at the moment...jews, kings, mac tuna, salmon, frigate mac, a few bonito. Good jewie lures would be the killalure jewie 150 in cherry pie or the green one, live squid or even just squid heads will do well off the beach too...head around to the bend though the terrigal side of the lagoon is all sand flat...they just opened the lagoon two days ago too so plenty of fish coming in to feed. Might see you out there! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. G'day raiders! Went for a flick of the stones this morning as I havent had a chance for about 6 months now and had reports of pelagics still schooling up in strong numbers along the coast. Arrived at the spot around 8am after a sleep in and set up two nine foot rods. One heavy for kings and the other for the smaller stuff. First cast trying some new plastics from Samaki I hooked up to what seemed like a very dirty fighting salmon but as the fight went on I was starting to think Kingy. After the mystery fish rocked me and I free spooled him out (twice) it seemed pretty much beat so I put some curry into it and up came a little rat King...beauty that's a good start! Things went a bit quiet for about 20 minutes before I noticed a school of frigate about 150 metres out cruising towarda the shelf. I sprinted back to tie on a small 5g metal and was soon rewarded with a small frigate. The wind picked up and I was looking for some dinner so decided to give squidding a go. I used a small yamashita in the pink back colour and proceeded to pull 5 good sized calamari just in time for lunch. Sorry no pic. of calamari or frigate...you all know what they look like! Cheers Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  7. Hey Neil, It is indeed plastic and if I'm not mistaken when in place it turns the main drive gear and worm gear (could be wrong though sorry!) The bearing at the bass of the shaft had been loaded with way too much grease from the factory (pet hate) and had become quite coarse from debris/salt (will be strictly fresh water from now on!). I removed the bearing and gave it a very good clean, drop of oil and problem is fixed. Runs better than out of the factory now. There are a few really good youtube videos from shimano themselves on how to do everything I did if you're ever interested I'll be happy to post a link to the ones I used Cheers Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  8. Woops, thanks nbdSent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  9. A lure rep for one of the bigger names once told me that they put trebles on to catch people not fish..the whole "three hooks is better than one" debateSent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  10. Problem solved! Put a bit of oil in there to break down any corrosion, a strong suction had been created so just had to pull a little harder. Heres a pic if anyones interested in learning this sort of stuff. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  11. So true about the singles, definitely saves some time when there is a school busting up in front of you and you need to get the lure out of its mouth and back out there quickly! Nice catch too nice to see theirs still some pelagics about Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  12. Gday raiders, Ive been doing a lot of saltwater fishing with my curado since I got it and decided I'd better give it a full service. I took it apart and did a general service all went well but I noticed that the main drive shaft is quite stiff to turn and actually squeeks. I want to get into the bearing under it to clean it out however I cant seem to get the drive shaft out...I have removed the two screws holding it in place however it is not budging. Am i missing something or do I need to pull/wiggle a little harder? Before anyone tells me not to bother and send it away to get fixed I will not be doing this and am quite confident at maintaining my gear but this is a new reel for me so please only helpful comments. Cheers guys and girls Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  13. Sorry mate you're a bit late in the season...there will still be the odd bonito and salmon but they could be a couple days apart at times now...in saying that I pulled two small salmon just north of their early yesterday Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  14. Excellent post, I dont leave the house without a pair of pollys, I have one on the bedside table, one in the glove box and usually one on my head! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. No worries mate, can't help you with the hairtail I haven't fished for em but you'll get whiting at any beach on the east coast of Australia pretty much. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  16. Right now I'm pretty sure the hairtail are on the run, should be taylor, salmon (earlier in summer good pelagics) a few jewies depends what you're after mate. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  17. Bugger that! Hire a kayak or boat and paddle there instead Ive had run ins with those locals out the back of terrigal skillion...they can move a lot quicker than you would think and dont give up! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  18. Nice work Razzel, shame on the lack of jewies but you gotta love that by-catch. On a side note, and this could be by coincidence but I doubt it, whenever I've had an early or strong season on the trevs there seems to be strong numbers of e.ps about and generally more of the bigger ones... get out there and chase some e.ps before the season closes in may! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. Im also in the process of starting to make my own lures, I'm also interested to know this [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  21. Worth mentioning that using a scent designed for say z-man plastics on a gulp or anything like that will melt your plastic and vice versa. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. Woops! Haha thanks Donna will do! Might have to update my account I'm a little overdue... Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  23. I was literally thinking of asking about getting a gallery for our catch photos but these changes sound amazing, look forward to it and I'm sure this will only help fishraider to grow and continue to be an informative forum Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  24. Bad luck mate, in my experience it pays to drop the drag right off when landing so this doesn't happen. Good on you though for wanting to look after your catch, lost some gear but gained my respect Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  25. First fish they taught us to fillet in my chefs apprenticeship...good eating. Flounder do have the tail formation too Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
