  1. Oh and I always used a double uni knot and yes the guides are small and sometimes catch but I avoided this by tying slightly shorter leaders so that when casting the knot was already free from the guides. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  2. Hey mate,I'm a big fan of itchy twitchy's all my rods are one piece but I have used the 2 piece model on frigate mackeral, bonito, big salmon and had no worries but my main use was flicking micro lures (1-4gram) for bream, whiting, bass and Estuary perch. I never had a problem at all with the set up and find the action on these rods fantastic. I eventually snapped the tip of the rod in an excited moment by holding my rod almost vertical and dropping a fish without the bail arm open...there's my one piece of advice- watch your angles when landing fish and you will love this rod. They are just releasing the gen black 2 models this season so you should see those prices stay low hopefully Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  3. Love that eastern pacific shot! The feather highlights look great!Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  4. Glad to have been of assistance, I believe there is actually a checklist on the app so that you can tick off birds as you see them as well. I really enjoy sitting in the yard with a beer on the weekend and calling to butcherbids and alike which fly down and often stick around for 30 minutes or so calling back at me.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  5. There are six species of wren in my local area- superb fairy wren, splendid fairy wren, red backed fairy wren, white winged fairy wren, variegated fairy wren and the southern emu wren. Google images should give you a good idea of the range of colours- I cant screen shot the images due to copyright laws sorryAds Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. Loving this thread Neil, great looking photos there by all! For all you bird lovers out there I would very highly recommend the "Michael Morcombe- Birds of Australia" app, I have used this app to not only indentify birds all over Australia but also to call them in during research projects using a portable speaker. I believe it is available for around $30 which might seem steep but when you compare that to the hard copy book which is nearly $100 and does not have playable calls for each bird, it's a bargain! Keep the photos comin, looking forward to digging through the archives tonight for some favourite shots to add. Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  7. The yellow colouring in the mouth is pretty standard, it can be a bit darker sometimes almost an orange colour but generally that same yellow. Nothing to do with pollution though as far as I know.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  8. Great work mate! Is that a Kietech on a 1/4oz? Most realistic swimming softies I've seen yet, you must be stoked! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  12. G'day Raiders, Apologies to those members I haven't got back to about various fishing locations etc I started a new job this week and was very busy I haven't forgotten you! I caught up with a friend who's been going through a bit of a rough time, in and out of hospital and hasn't had a chance to get out on the yak for a while. I recently bought a new Daiwa HRF P.E Special TW which I've loaded onto my Dobyns Savvy Series so we decided we would go chase some jews (or soapies in my case usually). We launched at a spot that looked very promising around 7am with nil wind and a high tide around 10am. As I waited for my company to set up his sounder and various other goodies I thought I would try flicking along the bridge pylons for a few e.ps which did not dissapoint. First cast on the ecooda live shrimp, letting it sink about 1.5m before two sharp twitches and bang - a nice 38cm perch followed quickly in the next two casts by another 39cm model. My mate was now ready to go and so was I. We made the short paddle of around 1km up the waterway into a smaller bay where we were greated with a bait ball on the sounder going from a depth of 1m down to the bottom at 6.5m with some active arches darting around. A pair of mating sea eagles flew over head as they chased off a whistling kyte and a few noisy minors. What a day to be out on the water we said to each other with our excitement growing. With around an hour to high tide we drifted the drop off using soft vibes and small blades picking up a few undersized bream, taylor and snapper before I picked up a nice 68cm dusky flathead. The tide was beginning to slow and things were looking more and more fishy. We decided on an area along the bank that looked the most promising and kept ourselves from drifting off the mark. As the tide finally turned on the high and began to flush out of the bay everything went quiet, an eary sort of quiet where you couldnt quite escape the feeling that something was about to happen. As i persisted with my soft vibes I heard the familiar sound of line being peeled off a reel and the drag ticking away with speed. I looked over my shoulder at my mates face and new instantly it was a jew. He went very quiet as the fish towed his kayak around in circles making a few long hard runs and plenty of big head shakes. I could see the fear in his eyes as the line disappeared off his bream set up and turned into backing line. A ten minute battle with the fish followed as my mate made various prayers to "the fish gods". Finally the fish tired and a silver flash reached the surface before quickly being picked up in the net. "Yeeeessss!!! First jewy!!!" My mate was stoked and so was I!. It is equally rewarding to put someone else onto a fish and see the look of excitement as they achieve their goals. High 5's all round as we took a few photos and a short video of the release and the 60cm soapy was on its way, a healthy fish as per usual for this location. Feeling as we had achieved what we came for we backed off on the chase and took things easy picking up a few more 65-75cm duskies and me having an absolute ball on my new set up. This thing casts a mile (just as far as my spin rods) and had literally zero backlash when casting...I didn't even need to stop the spool as the lure hit the water. We had a fantastic day out and promised to do it again soon. Hope you enjoy the read, here's a few pics and a video of the release filmed off my phone (sorry no photos of the e.ps or flathead I was busy fishing!) https://vimeo.com/167581332 Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  13. Looks like another well rounded event guys, hopefully I can make the next one! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  14. Sambos make pretty good fish cakes I'm told, most of my mates wouldn't eat them any other way. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. Cheers for the info,I'll check them out and see what I have in comparison. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  16. Always wanted to give this a go but I'll admit my lack of experience in the surf. What sort of rods and reels are you using? I've got some sensitive but strong 12fters and some heavy long cast and surf/jigging reels, will one of these suffice?Cheers Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  17. Nice. Love soft vibing! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  18. No worries Jeff, yeah if only I could land some legal jews! I keep getting 2 or 3cm under [emoji35] haha can't go wrong with a flatty though! Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. I would try the boat moorings, bridges and weed beds along the entrance to the river. The Shoalhaven area has some enormous E.Ps, Ive seen them in the 60cm range there before so I hope you find some big ones! Happy to help! Hopefully it puts you onto some fish =) Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  20. A lot of the time it just takes trial and error of fishing further upstream untill you stop getting bream etc but it can be a pretty good identifier if there is a lot of debris and leaf litter etc on the surface all moving up or downstream in a big clump and there is none either side. I would be able to give you a few locations but only for the Central Coast sorry.Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  21. Might add that you can still catch them in closed season but they need to be released immediately. Better off going for some E.Ps in winter though they're thick as blankets in parts of NSW from now till the open season again. If you do plan on chasing them in the closed season its worth crushing the barbs to help with release and wet your hands becore you touch them as they have a mucus like membrane and don't do so well on releases. Here's one I got throwing a popper around last night for a bit of fresh air- Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. That rule was updated a few years ago mate closed season starts the 1st of may for both Bass and Estuary Perch. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/about-us/media-centre/releases/2016/bass-perch-closed-for-fishing Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  23. It's closed season now, they're all further down stream breeding in the brackish water. Usually they school up and breed where you would normally find Estuary Perch and the Estaury Perch move way further down stream right into the salt. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  24. Neil I'm a big fan of the Sunline P.E, super P.E etc, can't remember exactly which one it is but I generally go with the green one. I find it by far the longest lasting and it seems to tie better knots than some of the more expensive versions out there. I think it usually costs me around $40 for 150m. Sorry about the late response, I don't seem to be getting notifications anymore.
  25. I'm guessing the harder strike will fix your problem but you may want to try a bit more of a "pump and wind" technique rather than just reeling the fish in and keeping the rod static. Because they are head-shakers the pump and wind can help if they are throwing the hooks. Sorry for the late response good luck on the next outing! Ads Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
