  1. I might be going down again this week and take the boat and stay a few days, that way I can also go fishing during the day. Frank
  2. Don't know if it still applies but certain parts of the A C T require permits to fish so be careful you don't get tempted to fish these locations without the appropriate permit. Maybe someone might refresh this post and let us know IF permits are still required and where ?. Frank
  3. That is a nice bream. Seems as how the topic is more about Waza's lures than the fish, I had a bit of a flick with one of Waza's lures on Thursday, I had to go to Hunts to buy some XD100 for the Etec so called into Tom Uglys for about a 20 minute explore, didn't expect any action and that's what I got but at least I had a few casts into the water which is a bit of a rarity for me of late. The lure worked well so no fault of that why I didn't get anything, middle of day run out tide etc, not even a toad to be seen. Frank
  4. I live in a pretty cool location Golf coarse behind me and park opposite and it's a coldersac ( dead end ) with a dog park , I spend a lot of time sitting on the front verandah watching life go by. people use my street as a dumping ground for all manner of rubbish. One day a guy parked just over the road from me deliberately threw all his scrap maccas waste out the window right in front of me. I walked over to his car picked up the garbage and threw it back through the window onto his lap and said Bin it OR take it home, he looked at me as if I was some sort of nut case. next morning sitting on the middle of my front lawn was a wheelie bin sized pile of rubbish. Another time I told a guy to take his rubbish home and that night I had a rock thrown through my bedroom window cost me 40 bucks for a new pain of glass. I often have confrontations with people about their rubbish and my better half tells me one day I will come back home with a knife sticking out of my stomach, but I just can't help myself I need to say something to these low lifes . Frank
  5. Neil. have you tried the Bardi Grub lure I sent you yet ?. Great to see you getting out and enjoying your fishing, great photos as always. Frank
  6. No mate V as in leading to the rear center roller another example, even the worst boat driver could drive onto the trailer with V's like this. Frank
  7. I have had a few on various trailers over the years and always took them off and replaced with v bunks to guide boat to center rollers . You are well within your rights to demand a full refund. They will probably offer a replacement part and insist on it being standard policy . But stick to your guns for refund as you DON't want to risk holing your boat . Frank
  8. Personally, IF this was my trailer I would do away with the rear wobble rollers all together and make up a couple of bunks/skids that could be much lower than those wobbles. This would allow the whole boat to be lowered several inches so that the hull of the boat sits just above the mud guards. This would create a lower center of gravity better for towing and much better for launching and retrieving the boat. There would be other ways to fix your problem but the obove is by far the better solution in my opinion. Frank
  9. Simplest and cheapest way to restore any metal, stainless chrome etc is simply get a sheet of alfoil and a bottle of coke OR pepsi. Make a small wad of alfoil pour a small amount of coke onto the metal and rub with the alfoil. You will be amazed at the results, also great way to polish bimini frames. Frank
  10. Li. Nice to get a reply from you, it shows you will be a worth while contributor to the forum. Unfortunately, it's not a good idea for you to catch a bus and visit me without guardian supervision. In a past fishing forum which I was an administrator I had a policy ( rule ) that no person under the age of 18 would be allowed to attend any gathering organized by any member of the forum without adult guardian supervision. and it worked well. I do suggest that this forum should also adopt this rule. Alternately we may have to go to my second suggestion that you send me your postal address via personal message, and I will get a package together and post to you. After you receive the goods the next step would be to learn how to best use them, I would suggest we arrange a meeting with DerekD and we could have a session together, this would need you to be accompanied by a supervisor as well. I could pick you and your adult supervisor up and travel over the north side to meet up with Derek at a time that suits all involved. Frank
  11. Hi young fella. Mind if I call you Li ?. Thank you for introducing yourself to the forum. I find it hard for ANY father to NOT want to teach their son the basics of catching a fish. You sound like a pretty level headed young lad to me and I would like to help you out by donating a hand full of hard bodied lures and a few other bits and pieces, plastics etc. Where do you live what area? and IF you are not too far away from Berala and IF your dad wouldn't mind driving you to my place I can give you some goodies to get you started. And maybe teach you some basics while you are here, Maybe your dad might learn something as well. If you are too far away to visit send me your address via Personal message with your name and I will post some goodies your way. I don't want anything for the stuff ,Just want to help a young guy get started. Frank
  12. I have been through the bar many times but when it is pumping I choose Bermi to head out, OR go back to bed and have a lazy day. Jon I have been a huge fan of your daughter for a few years ( since she was a kid ) and admire her for her achievements. Frank
  13. If there was to be such a gathering I would attend. I like meeting and socializing with fellow fishing folk almost as much as I enjoy the sport itself. Frank
  14. Noel. I always make my own bolts. Buy lengths of Stainless all thread and a heap of nuts and cut the all thread to length I need and weld nut onto end and you have the perfect sized bolt every time. A bit time consuming but it saves the frustrations of not having the right bolts and nuts. Also make my own washers from plate. Trailer looking good , only problem by the time it's finished the summer season will be almost gone. Oh well there's always the winter Snapper and kings as well as the John Dory and Hairtail to catch. Frank
  15. Just got back from my 1 night prawning expedition from down the south coast ( Bermagui ) Got to the lake just before dark and set up and started walking the shallows, unfortunately the water dropped off way to sharply for my liking and I had to take things extremely easy. A few started showing straight away and by dark there were a few about to be taken. Anyone who knows me knows that I suffer from emphysema and therefor can't stay standing up in sinking sand for very long, so I had to do very short timeframe in the water . however after a few hours I had managed approx 3 1/2 kilo of average sized prawns. My mates both got about 5 k's each which turned out to be a good trip. was great to catch up with old friends and share time doing what we all enjoy. The wire scive fits into a 20 ltr white drum. Frank
  16. My mate got around 5 k's the other night he said they were large almost as big as king prawns. I'm going down to try for some on Monday night , can only stay 1 night so I hope they are on. long drive if the timing is not right. Frank
  17. I think we should have a competition " who has the untidiest shed " I recon I would win hands down. Anyone who has seen my sheds knows that I am not the neatest workman about the place, sometimes amazes me how I manage to get things done, eventually!!. But to get back on subject. Baz the Minn Kota is looking good. Frank
  18. When I lived in Orange I used to go to Ophir a lot. Fishing and shooting bow hunting etc, of coarse I was a lot younger and fitter way back then. The kids would enjoy the camp site at Ophir with old gold fields and a huge mine ( cave ) that is fun to explore, some good trout and Redfin to be had walking the lower Lewis creek. Trunkey Creek is another of my favorite spots ( knew the guide from Abercrombie caves and stayed at his place ) The caves are a great place to spend a day away from fishing and in my opinion every bit as good as Jenolen. Just a couple of day trips near Bathurst you would enjoy. And of coarse do the tourist thing and drive the Mt Panorama track and visit the exhibition center Frank.
  19. Here is the latest one I made for the savage, not just the quick bolt on once you find the position. I had to fabricate a bracket to the shape of the bow and instead of welding it on I opted to bolt it on so it had to fit well. I bolted an extra length of angle under the bracket for added strength but I don't think it was really needed but does no harm. I removed the starboard side bow rail from the boat. When the motor is not deployed in the water the shaft sits on this bracket and velcrome hold it so it doesn't jump around. head of motor sits just before windscreen. It really did take some working out for fitment and placement to get it right. Frank
  20. I recently made up one for my savage Scorpion which was quiet complicated out of scrap material I had laying around the shed, turned out pretty good. I have made several non complicated ones in the past and I recon $200 fitted would be over charging . I am about to make another one for my Quintrex project. I will try and take some photos tomorrow and post IF anyone interested. Frank
  21. Neil. Great to see you back out in the boat and a few green fish coming aboard. Hope it stays that way for you for a while, you have had some pretty lean times lately down your way. Frank
  22. Sounds if the boat is around the same age as my Savage Scorpion When I got it there were all sorts of different nuts bolts holding various objects on, mild steel brass etc and there was that sort of corrosion in many areas, I have slowly removed all ( I think ) the offending alian fixtures . I haven't bothered re painting the corroded surfaces as I am just too old to be bothered and as the hull is still in great shape the boat will see my life time out. Just make sure there are no pit holes in the hull and do as you say clean the affected areas up and re paint and the boat should see you right for several years. I use plastic tube to isolate the nuts and bolts from the alloy , just cut skinny sections of appropiate size hose or tube and place over bolt and it acts as a protective washer. Don't be fooled in believing Duralex etc will fully isolate self tapping screws. If the screw is holding the object properly it IS in contact with the alloy. Use the stuff by all means as it does help but it is NOT fool proof. To be double certain there is no contact between different metals multi metre each screw etc . How about some photos of the boat. Frank
  23. OK so it's just another bit of plastic formed to look a bit like a fish to attract a fisherman. Fair dinkum all you need to do to catch a fish is walk along the bank of a river etc pick up any old bit of a twig tie it onto a hook and cast it in the water and jiggle it a bit OR rip a strip of material from your Tshirt and tie that on, does the same job. these things are made to make someone rich and it's us fishermen/fisherwomen that keep the lure industry afloat. You may well ask if this is the cast and if I am so smart , Why then do I have hundreds of lures well that's simple I am a fisherman!!. Frank
  24. What is this Bent lure ? can you post a photo of it please. I have hundreds if not thousands of lures and would like to know what we are talking about before I make comments. Frank
  25. Strange to hear this as my mates down at Bermagui are having some success with the prawns, they don't even have to pick their times being a few days before the NEW moon, any overcast night is producing good results and it has had heaps of rain down that way as well all the dams are overflowing and it's green as can be. Frank
