  1. I wouldn't go under 10mm in that size boat..you have to think of the weight of your boat then the pressures swell and wind can impart on it..i have a 100 mtr length and a 300mtr length with pik anchors on both and use a float and clip system .the winch you are thinking of will restrict you to fairly shallow water compered to a float system..with 95mtrs of rope at a 3to1 ratio of angle you can anchor in 30 mtrs...with a float I can fish 100mtrs...my personal opinion only but I don't see the value or use in a winch...rick

  2. hi welster stick with the silver rope and buy a float and clip..its the only way to anchor in my opinion..i have a vsea cuddy and fish by myself often  I can anchor and retrieve in 90mts of water with little effort..drive past float keep going till anchor chain comes up and hits clip.the float will bounce on the surface stop turn boat around and idle back towards float pulling in slack rope with ease..simple effortless easy..i cant imagine pulling an anchor in by hand..thats archaic and too much hard work..choose anchor type to suit bottom your dropping it on and use plenty of chain ..I put a foto on a previous thread of the reef picks I use with a breakaway rig..look up.[anchoring in deep water over reefs]...hope this helps..rick

  3. I fished outside for years in a 4.3 clark centre console with fifty mariner..just be careful of the weather..these days there is seabreeze willy weather and so many other apps for fones theres no excuse to go out in bad seas and put you or others at risk..rick

  4. well I managed to get to the bay early sun morn..beautiful morn sat on 22 knots all the way to the island..once there we had the wind turn at daybreak and swing thru west to nsth west to south..all my fave spots had fish on the northern side or uphill side but I couldn't anchor to get at them..we fished a few spots near the sisters but it was pumping with big swells breaking all over the place..picked out a few keepers amonst lots of small reds..no slimies there like 4 weeks ago..a couple of bonito and some undersize kings kept us busy for a while..a move to the north side had us sitting on a reef edge and the sand flatties were on the chew..every bait then any plastic were pounced on but most were 30/31 cm  kept 6 that went 35cm then moved again..a bit of joy came in the shape of a nice spangled emperor .foto in chat under weather..all in all a top day but no big reds..ah well you cant get em everytime..I finished the day with a good box of fish..8 reds. emperor.bonnies.flatties.tailor.and 4 big greeneyed squid..hope to get back there in two weeks..didn't worry bout pics of smaller fish..but just shows with perseverance you can still get a feed in unkind weather conditions..rick

  5. it makes it difficult to anchor where you want..as your berley and your lines go under the boat instead of out the back of the boat....also in my case I couldn't anchor safely near a working bommie as the wind was blowing from opposite direction as needed..rick

  6. The wind was blowon swest the current ne..made for a hard mornIings fishing  ended up with eight small reddies but this spangled emperor was a bonus

  8. well so far two sessions on the stones has me with 9 nice greeneye squid in the fridge and planning to leave home at 3.00am to hit broughton is in the morning..the wind has dropped right back from forecast bad 25knot winds and is lookin good for tomorrow..hopefully have some pics tomorrow night..rick

  9. its funny how every weekend my fishing comp is on the weather craps me out..looking at seabreeze and surfcams and totally bummed out..25knot nne  oceans a mess .no snapper for this fisho this weekend..maybe try the rocks tomorrow for some blackfish..theres always somewhere to wet a line..rick

  10. pull your carbies off take bowl off and clean out gunk build up in there you will have crap in there blocking main jet when the flow increases when you back off they drop back to bottom of bowl..had same trouble with my 60yammie took all three carbs off cleaned them put water separator filter on and havnt prob since...unleaded fuel leaves deposits when it dries out...just use some carby cleaner and spray thru the ports in your carbs while apart..rick

  11. not disrespecting tinnies but ive fished all my life and been in numerous alloy boats..my mates own them and I fish in them..but.i have never found one that rides as good as same size glass hull..stessl.amm.tabs.barcrusher trailcraft.blahblah.people buy glass or alloy to suit their needs don't let me influence you I was just making a snide comment on tinnies as I have never heard of one being "comfy'...rick

  12. there are two ways to fight kings..one is fish heavy and go for broke ..usual outcome is they give you more than you give them...gone..second is the softly softly technique..you let them run out wider then give them heaps till they come closer then repeat and backoff let them run out again when out over sand or away from rocks belt it to them again then go softly on them when in close..sometimes it works sometimes not...ive landed 18kg king off wybung on 6kg with this method and been dusted by pups on 24kg  ...no 4 baitholders arnt exactly ideal for kings so I would be lookin at upgrading your tackle before next encounter..rick

  13. im with you Fabian and try to do all my own maintenance..i begrudge paying $60/$75 per hr or more when I can do it myself..my boat was stolen by my ex and I bought it back a few months ago..in the time it was sitting the steering froze so I just fixed that basically same as your post I then bought second hand trailer and reconfigured all rollers to suit and balanced trailer and boat  the trailer guy wanted to charge me $550 to do this..i replace spark plugs pull carbies apart and clean them..ive had boats all my life and wouldn't be able to afford one if I had to pay for any or all work to be done by so called proffesionals..so like you and many others il keep doing everything I can do myself..a big thank you for all the effort you put into these posts..congrats..rick

  14. cut hem open and cut into strips rather than rings..use a sharp knife and slash lightly into the strips in a cross pattern then they cook easier and roll up like shop bought ones..i soake mine in a container overnight in a milk and garlic mixture..then crumb and fry...there is a product called crumb in one that's easy and tastes good..rick
