I fish browns and read bottom and fish very well with 50/200 trans on hds5...tuning it is the art..make sure you have your trans model punched into your unit in the menu..also set to deepwater mode manual depth manual sensitivity..i can read bottom in 180 fthms with 83/200 trans hds5 in my vsea..that's 350mtrs and read clear enough to target blue eye off swr and hat head..rick

you tend to get too much bycatch with prawns or cunje...crabs are the go..if you can get urchins bust them up and use for burley...rick

luv your reports dirvin congrats on nice sesh

forgot to mention that best way to catch crabs is in the dark with a torch..they are out an about in the night time..i use a length of stiff wire and hammer the end flat and shape like spear point..poke crab then twist spear so point grabs inside then remove from crack...good luck...ps if you wanna catch a grouper go to queensland..haha ..rick
-
do you mean blue groper ???most rocky hedlands with some reef will have some groper in residence..use 2x hooks in 3/0to 6/0..you can rip top shell off crab and use whole or halves threaded thru leg holes..small running ball sinker straight to hook..hold on..rick
-
nice one scratchie glad you found a few....plenty of whales last weekend..bloody nuisance..rick
-
if you go to nth solitary..try nth rock there are two pinnacles that come up to 4mtrs n/e off the rock..they are outside the marine park zone..lots of wahoo and Spanish caught and speared there..rick
-
have you changed anything ??? try separate power wire to battery or battery pack and that will discount static coming from other appliances..gps sounder stereo ....if on same loom this can often happen..rick

lure collectings a great idea and marking all the best snags would be on my agenda neil....first from the air now from the bank...choice
