  1. depends on what you intend buying...some 4.8s handle well some don't..i have a 4.8 vsea and take it everywhere..but I have many years experience on the ocean..vseas and haines ..cruise craft..there are a few I would take to the fads but not a fan of tinnies in this size....its hard to explain but some hulls just handle and ride better because of hull design..deadrise..draft..width..many factors..if you can go bigger do so..always better to have more size..good luck with your boat hunting..rick..ps I run twelve miles to fads up here and sixteen to the shelf up the coast..even broughtons eleven mile...rick

  2. some beaches fish better on a high or rising but others don't have obvious gutters or formations until the tide drops to reveal banks.gutters.runout channels...I suggest sitting up high from the beach you want to fish and look for features that are obvious..i have caught great whiting in a foot of water in the middle of the day then backed up an got a jew just on dark in a full gutter that the whiting were in...do your homework and results will follow...rick

  3. unfortunately years ago there was so many pipis being pillaged it was crazy...I used to work in the pro industry and dig pipis on Stockton beach every now and then to supplement income..we never took huge amounts and only did it four or five times a year..one day we seen a group of Asian looking gents in three Nissan patrol utes with families all in other vehicles digging pipis down the beach..they had boards up the side of there trays 1200 high and had all the utes nearly full by the time fisheries arrived..i called them..they were handed huge fines and made to spread the entire loads of pipis down along the waterline....they were lucky to keep their trucks......the stocks are good on Stockton now  but who knows how many times these people get away with it....rick

  4. Belmont beach budgewoi beach nth entrance..many beaches have them..chase them on low low tides...a lot of travelling for a small bag limit...rick

  5. I was lucky enough to have an easy launch spot and left the joggers on...mmmm nice warm feet...good creek lots of snags  summer should see some fish in there..got two more to check out over next few weeks..rick

  6. my mate and I spent a lazy Saturday checking out a new creek for next summer...1 bream  couple of hits an misses...it was just so relaxing having a quite paddle an taking in the sights an sounds...this is the third exploratory trip in the last few weeks....once the weather warms the fish will move back upstream then it will be game on...hardest part will be choosing where to go with the yaks as they all look the goods.....il try throw foto on from my fone later....the best part is you come home throw the yak in the yard.no motor to flush no washing no wheel bearings no lights....just fun...rick

  7. ive had the thirty lb on a reel for four years and still goin strong..and eighty on my electric for three...the spectra is pretty good stuff  all up I have it on five reels and have two new spools I havnt touched...for the price you cant go wrong neil..rick

  8. if it was me neil I would get some narrow stainless strips screwed with stainless teks to bracket bend to shape to sit on top of trans either side and mount with copious quantity of black sikaflex...prob not prettiest but will hold there well an truly..ive done it before..broke trans on first day beach launching on two week Minnie trip...as mentioned glues don't work well on this plastic..rick

  9. hey berley guts  I run an older 2stroke 60hp yammie on a seafarer vsea 4.8...average trip to broughton with some running round and I fish the northern side most times  I use 30/35 ltrs average...depending on how much you run round up there I would say you should have plenty..if in doubt take a ten ltr  container with you as I think you would prob only use 25ltrs for my normal trip..etec 60 should use heaps less than mine...rick

  10. there is only one plus to this neil...you are out there fishing and im digging holes and putting up fences..i know what I would prefer to be doing...even a bad days fishing is better than working mate..hope you get some some soon..rick

  11. yeah regan they are a combo you can have either or both on screen....I have two hds5 units in my vsea and im goin to use the combo in my yak as I have spare trans and my power is set up with plugs so I can change quickly...my units are set in a board in boat so I have spare mounts for the yak...I will silicon my trans in hull near hatch so its not under hull as I crash paddle over logs in my fave creeks..keep an eye out for a used unit in a hds5 or elite5..rick
