I had a stebercraft with an inboard and my alternator died and drained my battery when about 5 miles from Swansea heads...things happen...I then installed second battery..but even then it would prob only run dry after half hour anyway without alternator pumping power into the system...wires can wear through..terminals can break off batteries..motors can seize..the list goes on....if one thinks you are in a position where you need help and nothing else works then your epirb which you have to carry by law in case you break down or are in danger should be used..why else do we pay so much money to buy the bloody things if you shouldn't use it...discretion is up to the individual...if I had no fone recptn or radio and no other boat in sight with seas rising I think I know what I would do...rick

after gamefishing for years in many different boats..glass and alloy ive never found an alloy boat that is close to glass I fish with a mate at the moment in a 20ft Bahia mar with duoprop diesel and two others with 6.0 and 6.5 allys...the old pride leaves them for dead..trim tabs make boats this size better but the allys don't compare..everyone has plus and minus sides to compare the two but it will come down to towing weight launching areas maintenance power options and price..try a few types of hull before you rush in and buy you may be surprised at what you end up with..rick

lizzy beach can be dicey if there is any swell from the nth..not a good beach for launching unless your competent at it...if you get out alright there is usually bait right on the point at seagull rock..the nth west point before you go round the front of charlotte head..if no one is lbg fishing round the front of charlotte you can go in close to the rocks and catch bait there...there are large areas of reef straight out the front from 30 mtrs to 60 mtrs...rick

very solid spear..nice to hear so many were tagged...I eves dropped on the skeds from home...not many small blacks for this time of year...hopefully you can nail a blue soon..rick

a fixed constant light can and will attract small baitfish which attract bigger fish or squid but a bright light being turned on and off or flashed around usually spooks fish..ive had people do it to me and I am usually rude and abrupt with them..but that's me and I don't recommend this action for everyone...sometimes discretion is needed in ones approach to morons..on the other hand you could always buy a bright light and shine it in their eyes and let them experience night blindness..haha must be the mean streak in me...rick

-
fished nth side of the island yday..cold green water current wrong way.25 knot noreaster after lunch..mixed bag with heaps of bonito a few small reds two reds around 3kg ..I hooked up on the most amount of sharks I have ever had the displeasure of finding..10 /20 mins on each one to see if they were cobes or anything to keep..then bust them off..whalers fro 3ft to 6ft..ive never had this problem anywhere before...hopefully some good water will push in soon..the fish were coming up cold as to touch surface temp was 20.4 at best..rick

such negativity from some people is the reason forum sites are failing..i have been an active member of a local site in my area for a number of years..the problem is the lack off activity onsite has me scratching my head..sometimes in the past few months there is periods of seven days without a topic being put to page..i joined raider after viewing for a long time now I love being an active member of a thriving site...26000 or 260 who cares ?? so long as you have a diverse membership with different thoughts and the same thoughts every member benefits...news on where and when..help with fishing or boating problems can be a blessing for members needing aid...if someone doesn't like the site instead of bagging it I recommend they fade into obscurity with the other forums that have failed...my rant apologies to all you faders...rick

Self-Bailing Bung on Tinnie
in Boating
Posted
if I have read correctly the bungs are designed to work from outside..so if you mount internally it will let water in as it will be under pressure..over the years ive seen many types of self draining systems and have never seen one that works 100% of the time so in a 5.4mtr boat mount a bilge pump as far back and and central as possible..as you mentioned you were going to remove the bung from inside I would assume you have access...rick
