  1. I have a hds5 it has a list of transducers in settings that you choose which trans you are using and the unit sets itself to said transducer ..I would assume the elite7 would be the same..look in your handbook for the unit and you should find it....rick

  2. recurve all you need is to learn preparation of luderick for eating and you may be surprised at how good they are..i bleed the fish by cutting throat latch..let them bleed out for a few mins then fillet..then turn fillet over and skin..i then cut straight above the bone and blood line in centre of fillet and below said line and up to the last rib bone..you now have a long and a short piece of boneless prime eating fish...no weed flavor .mud or any otherbad taste....I cook up these pieces at bbqs and no one can pik what it is..but they all come back for more...rick

  3. these are a design that's been around for years...hold line tight just above fish..hook small bend over line ...pull arms apart ..hook will slide down to fish pull tight then flick fish over the top in a circular motion from near body to away from body..inertia should pluck hook from unwanted fishes mouth..aim ooglies and red rockies over side and this motion throws them away..if good fish aim in floor of boat...hope description is clear enough..rick

  6. our last trip chasin cod was ordinary due to low water levels...now for the last four weeks my fave spot is unfishable due to too much water....I checked bom water levels on thurs to find our spot was running1.1 mtrs above our nominal height near where we fish...with closed season approaching its getting very frustrating waiting for a window of opportunity..im crossing everything and hoping we get a chance otherwise its gunna be a llooonngg wait till December....rick

  7. I use an eight pd ball weight with an adjustable release clip on 1.2 mtrs of 250lb jinkai...trolling live slimies your mainline will hang behind boat in a curve due to water pressure..therefore it will be well clear of motor or anything on back of boat.,i fish anywhere between 30ft and 60 ft depending.on where fish are in water column..u can fish as deep as u like so long as your prepared to haul it back up.... haha...rick

  8. to answer the original question..yes you can use a downrigger weight on a handline or cord line..i have used that setup for many years and caught a lot of marlin doing it..main thing to remember is not to turn away from the side the downrigger line is on.. keep straight or turn towards the line and you will keep your line clear of motor...good luck..rick

  9. there is a bunch of guys fishing Stockton beach nearly every weekend that use live yakkas all the time...they catch jew consistently all year round..i get sick of looking at the fotos they put up...if u can take them with you live try it and compare results to whole squid or butterflied tailor..my fave bait is the front half of a tailer then cut the back half into three chunks and throw it into gutter for burley...rick

  10. if you buy block pillies smack the block down on flat concrete once or twice flat side down..this will separate pillies let them half defrost//wrap 6 or 8 pillies with liberal sprinkle of salt in newspaper..put a couple of these in bags and place in bottom of fridge for two days..newspaper sucks moisture from pillies..then place in freezer still in newspaper..when you go fishing take what u need..they will be tough and stay on hooks better ..leave in paper and refreeze unused bags..if left wrapped in paper and kept in esky u can refreeze numerous times as they don't defrost easily..best of luck..rick

  11. I used to work on a 71 ft longline boat from port stephens in 2006 we had that many sbts in front of port stephens just outside shelf we couldn't fish because we had already filled our bycatch quota...they still come this far just no boats fishing out there at this time of year compared to two months ago...rick

  12. havnt fished it for a couple of years..a few years ago the water nearly dried up went warm and most fish died...I havnt heard if restocking has occurred..i will try and look up stocking figures..rick
