  1. Just go test them out bro, if you looking at the Viking then consider the OK trident also. Both good yaks and both probably a few kilos heavier than your current one so start working them arms out ?. Oh and don't forget that Hobie do paddle Yaks also which are pretty good.
  2. The Viets have been using these for years ? Anyone know now anyone who can weave? We can make a fortune with a cheaper and lighter alternative ?
  3. I'm rostered off that weekend but gotta try and get my hall pass, put me in for a soft attendance ?
  4. Stuck on weekday roster for training for the next 5 months away from home then Dad duties on the weekends. No fishing for me for a while ?

  5. Ah this brings back memories of the old man teaching his 7 year old how to fish. Used to love going to Jetty 6 at Port Kembla (no entry now) and catching the yakkas on hand line with a good 8-10 meter drop if I was clumbsy enough to fall over ?. Trick my dad used was me distracting the yakkas while he dropped his rig to catch Bream. He'd burley with a small floating bucket with drilled holes with left over bread and such and let me fish around it. He would then rig his hand line up to catch Bream and have a heavier hand line waiting for the yakka to throw out as live bait to catch Jews. The good old days when we couldn't afford a rod and reel ?. Yakka activity usually draws in other fish so set up a distraction burley and target Bream, they'll usually hang below the yakkas if they are there to take what gets pass the yakkas.
  6. Try isolating/moving the tranny cable to a location on its own. If the interference is still happening there might be a fault in the tranny install. The interference happening with the handheld points to a faulty connection.
  7. Where will you launch? Can't make it as I'm rostered for weekdays at the moment.
  8. LoL yeah but I would be using it for other things besides kayak Meets. The GME I used for 4wding was not so great so I moved over to the Uniden brand.
  9. I would be careful of that Baofang as the features does not match with the description ?. 16 channels so I'm assuming no CB, says water resistant and then waterproof. Wattage drops from 8 to 7, wattage shouldn't be a deciding factor for yakkers as we usually have uninterrupted line of sight thus radio waves should be sweet. A 1w unit would perform just as well. If we are going to make this a regular Yakking Crew I'd probably pick up a Uniden MHS155UV. Has 2.5w of UHF for when I am 4wding, 5w of VHF for when I am on the water and need marine assistance and CB for when the Yakkers meet up. Oh and it floats ?
  10. Does this unit operate in CB? Don't want to get a licence to operate a 2 way so if it has CB it's a nice price for an 8w UHF and water resistant to boot.
  11. Have you seen the boonedox or crocodile trolleys? I'm thinking the boonedox would suit my needs ?
  12. Why not make a milk crate trolley that functions as a yak storage/rod holder? I have plenty of spare milk crates after selling the shop and recalling the Saturday meet you need as many rod holders as you can get ?
  13. I have 6 months training for new job, but if my roster gives me a couple days to recoup after a meet I'll be down for another get together.
  14. Wellzy has it correct, run them parallel to double the AH. Run them in series if you want to double the voltage. This is how you convert C batteries to a 12v battery. If you have toys with battery packs that hold C batteries you can make battery packs. Alkaline C batteries are rated at 1.2v discharge with capacity of 7.8ah, now if you were to rig them in a series you'll need 10 batteries to make a 12v 7aH battery pack ?. A mate and I rigged his cheap Yak up with DIY everything and we tried these packs. Good for emergencies but being unable to recharge them made them pointless. Bear in mind this was way back, the cell voltage may have changed with new tech and materials.
  15. I'd recommend a 18ah, gives you a usable 14ah and isn't so heavy so you can connect extra things besides finder and lights. Or grab a solar charger for the 7-10ah
  16. Ah sorry, didn't read the ultra bit ?, don't think the ultra has the predrilled, you'll need to drill your own and use a grommet to seal or better yet a ip68 rated nylon cable gland.
  17. How long do you think you'll average on the water? Not thinking about any other electrics? Nav lights, aerator etc? If memory serves me right, the hook will run at .8AH or there so, given that the 7.2 will give you roughly 6 hours finder usage (recommended 80% draw). If you want to connect on lights for the Hairtail social then you'll need more AH ? Oh and an onboard VHF to heckle mothership and disco leds along the hull to attract schoolies and a water canon so you can sink the SS Krause......ah the fun you can have with mods ?
  18. 1. Designed to fit different brand trannys 2. Ocean Kayak Transducer boot kit or fabricate your own ? 3. Hole is predrilled, sits under tackle box, black grommet.
  19. Lol, you can run a trolling motor with that one ?
  20. Sounds like you are suffering some EMI, get some shielding to wrap your tranny cable, and if you want you can wrap your finder power cable also.
  21. 1k from boat ramp, about 50m radius of breakwall heads, so basically just dipping our toes into open ocean. No point going further unless you are heading towards the islands, we mainly stuck to the structures. Session was about 5-6 hours. Kayak Meet.avi
  22. I use zerek live shrimp at night for flatties, like most others, I fish around lit up areas.
  23. 1 hour sleep? Hehe I had 0, which caused me to forget sounder, SP setup, my breakfast esky (hence the empty milk crate), wrong landing net, and my sunnies. By 9am I was hungry enough to take a bite out of a rat kings shoulder before releasing it ? All in all was a great day out there. Hopefully the new job allows me to attend the next meet as it's nice seeing a gaggle of idiot kayakers annoying the bloated boaties ?
