  1. Yer they were Spanyids
  2. Sorry but sometimes i get passionate about it and like i said i reported the Angel rings missing 6 months ago and nothing done about it to date. Yes i love my rock fishing and i myself was one of those people who in my younger days survived a fall into The Murk at Bondi. anyway it just hits a nerve in me
  3. I just watched a youtube video of this guy catching a 240 LB Yellow fin tuna off the rocks lol its awesome,a beast of a thing its the world record off the rocks. I have ever only seen one follow my lure into shore then turn and run away after i lifted the lure out of the water, never saw it again. That was at a place called The Trap off Sydneys South East.
  4. Yer bro mine were caught in the late 90s must have been one of those years when the warmer currents drifted down south and brought the fish with it. Haven't been spinning for years, got the urge again yesterday spun for 5 hours solid, lol got nothing and was a wreck after it sore all over.
  5. This Guy knows it too. His old post confirms what i said. Spearer1 MACKEREL MEMBERS 40 posts Gender:Male Location:Sydney Posted January 30, 2011 · Report post Well done on the Spotty. One for the photo album for sure. Believe it or not there are plenty of Spanish Mackeral getting about off Sydney beaches at the moment too. Taking one of them off Sydney would be awesome. I'm trying hard, but only getting bonito & kings. Hopefully my 30lb gear can handle one. Quote
  6. Hi Guys I caught a few Spanyids off Clovelly Point years ago,in the late 90s
  7. yer i use a snap swivel so i can change lures quick and easy as for the wire trace i have lost fish in the past from teeth but since my post i did some research and yer it can spook the fish. I have caught Spanish Mackeral off the rocks before many years ago off Clovelly point also know as Shark Point on Halco lures I think i was using a 40gran Crome Twisty. From memory the fish were about just under a meter maybe 80cm and it was summer time at sunrise. Although they like the warmer waters up North, maybe the warmer currents drifted down Sydney that year and they moved down with them but i did catch them. Anyone else ever heard of or caught Spanyids off Sydney ?
  8. The green area is where people mostly fish. The green area with the red writing is extremely dangerous and only fishable at low tide and in dead flat conditions. The main platform is in white writing. The swell on the main platform when it hits comes up sideways and rolls across the platform with a sideways motion. The platform at high tide is level with the sea so it only takes small swell to come over and roll across but having said that this area is fishable most times when other areas are too dangerous.unless the swell is coming straight in towards it from East/South East or South. Cleats are a must here because it is slippery all over and having a sideways rolling green water coming over the ledge will knock you off quick unless ready for it. You must wear a life jacket here if you go in here and you can not swim or float due to heavy clothing you will probably drown unless recused 1st. Although the spot sound dangerous it is one of the safest at most times yet can be one of the dangerous ones too.due to the low level platform and water rolling over sideways. 4 people have died here as you can read the sign walking down the easy access stairway. Fisheries do come down here sometimes to check your catch and licence also lots of tourists walk around the rocks and sometimes they get washed in too. Good fishing, possible to get all types of fish being so close to the entrance of Botany Bay,night fishing is risky, unless calm and lit up well. Scuba diving groups/classes hit this area every day and dive right past the platform, they are a pain.
  9. I fish alone most of the time, sometimes i am lucky to have a friend come with me but 90% i am alone. I wear a life jacket,I wear cleats,I wear bright fluro clothes that if I go in I will be able to swim or float in,like shorts/t-shirt,light clothing,i tell someone where i will be fishing and what time im expected to be home,if im late i ring them. Hitting your head on rocks when going in is a big possibility ,wearing some sort of head protection has crossed my mind several times, after having my hands full and stumbling up out of a running gutter up on to a ledge, thinking to myself had i fallen forward and cracked my head on the rocks i would have been knocked out and floating down the gutter, probably face first but to wear this and life jackets and clothing in the hot sun whilst fishing would be a task and a half and in the end you would probably die from dehydration first,i already have a hard time trying to stay cool. Anyway my point is if i can't fish alone then I would never be able to fish. Fishing alone and fishing alone in remote unpopulated areas are both different. Maybe you think i am a little crazy but at the end of the day you can take as many precations as you want ,sometimes spit happens ,yes you minimize the risk but how far do we want to go,should we get all padded up to the point where it would be impossible to fish to minimize the risk, common sense and knowledge of the weather/ocean conditions and know when to go and not to go are very important, more so than any saftey gear but accidents still happen no matter how cautious you are. I just want to add this. anyone who fishes in jeans or heavy clothing items or shoes, off the rocks, off the wharf, off a boat is crazier than the one fishing alone, has anyone tried to float or swim with jeans on ? or heavy shoes and clothing, its like trying to swim with a potato sack over you or a heavy net. You may not agree with what i am saying here but this is how i see the situation from my view and experiences. Maybe the local councils will make a new law to stop people from fishing alone and then the popular fishing industry that feeds off tackle shops and anything to do with fishing will go broke. and so on and so on hahahaha Randwick Council the leaders in the fight to ensure all fisherman follow safety precations and are doing all they can to prevent rock fishing drownings to the point where if they had there way they would probably make their area a marine park and stop fishing altogether, they dont care about us they only care about legal liability and the reputation of their area, next time your fishing in one of those spots in Randwick councils precinct, look to see if their is a Angel Ring,I know several spots where they are missing and have been missing for along time,I contacted the Angel Ring people directly involved in this Angel Ring project and emailed the locations where they are missing almost 6 months ago,its all a gimmick they dont give a hoot,no reply and still missing. all a publicity stunt,to make people and legal liability chasers think they are doing all they can to prevent deaths in their area, they dont care if you drown as long as they dont look bad and wash their hands of any legal liability. Angel Ring Project I contacted these people via email several months ago and reported a few locations where the Angel Ring had been missing for a long time, still no response and my email address is still the same and the rings are still missing,I guarantee they get local council money to maintain and install these rings,so whose the lazy one not doing his job in the worst area for rock fishing drownings in the Randwick council area ? cause the ones i reported are in their area ! http://angelrings.com.au/ reports that they have a rep inspect the rings every 2 months,so whats happened here then ? someone being lazy and not doing their job or they trying to pretend to be seen as doing as much as they can when their actually not ? My thinking is i think Randwick council will eventually make its area a marine park,a no fishing area as a way to stop fishing deaths in its area and i will bet you any money if they get away with this then other councils will follow. They are using this area as a test case and are building their evidence as to why it should be turned into a marine park/no fishing zone,(building their case) Conspiracy theory, maybe but it looks suspect. How about the RMS and local councils get off their butts and go down to these dangerous fishing locations and do random checks and starting enforcing the life jacket rules. I have only ever seem one guy a few years ago when the fishing licence first came out. They need to get down and regularly check for fishing offences including under size fish.I see all the time people keeping under sized fish and these are normally the ones without life jackets or cleats fishing off the rocks,we all know who they are,we see them all the time. I see people everytime i go fishing, they wear jeans/heavy rain coats/jumpers etc/no cleats ,no life jacket and in rough dangerous areas and keeping under size fish, these are your 90% drowning stats thats causing the problems and the councils and emergency services to go onto panic mode, start enforcing the law now.
  10. Hey there, just want to know if anyone here uses ready made snap swivel wire/cable traces when they spin. I use these but i'm thinking maybe they spook the fish.so i'm going to go back to how i used rig up only with a snap swivel,no trace. The reason i started using the wire cable traces in the first place was because surface fish have big sharp teeth and i found out a long time ago that they can bite your line off easy near the lure. After a 5 hour spin session yesterday,my arms and back feel like ive been hit by a truck, with no result. The conditions were perfect yesterday for surface fish and I know sometimes they just dont bite or your lure is not what they are chasing at the time but im starting to think the trace is spooking them. What do you think ? Thanks
  11. Had a shoe failure today, got lazy didn't grind the thread to stop the nuts from coming loose.. lost one nut and almost lost all nuts within 30 min, very important to grind the end of the thread or use lock nuts until the rust takes hold.
  12. yer i always wash gear that has been in salt water, with the garden hose, salt water will rot ya stuff.
  13. Yer mate if i cant get it here i try overseas and if they have it i will get it. Its always a risk but so far so good.
  14. Some big Kingys in Botany Bay at the moment,no wonder the sharks are being seen.
  15. The longtom looks like a small Barracuda,i bet it fought like one too.
  16. Nice fish and the end result meal looks awesome, yum yum.
  17. I recently stumbled across this https://books.google.com.au/books?id=2fweBJxTnsYC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false it has maps and locations of hot spots of some areas, hope you find it helps. its 2002 but good info on spots around certain areas,i just looked at the free info but you can also buy it if you want.
  18. Wow, I used to surf it too No probs Yer Neil windows 10 app allows you to draw over your photos, just took a screen shot of my google earth and marked the spots.
  19. Hi people, Went spinning today off Bare Island Botany Bay,didn't catch anything but I saw a few 1 meter King Fish crashing through the surface around the bombora, too far out for me,any boaties might be interested, was about 9am on the run in tide,3 hours before high tide.
  20. Brassroots yes can be dangerous. I will try and upload a map and mark the areas I used to fish regular. The green areas are the only areas to fish here unless absolutely dead flat. beware these 2 spots are exposed to any type of swell and flat rock sits almost level with the water. Flat rock produces blackfish/squid most other stuff. The front rock platform circled produces surface fish as it is a rock to spin off, have had a penguin or 2 jump up on the rock in front of me while spinning. The boat ramp produces anything, not a boat ramp to drive down and launch your boat Beach faces S/E with 3 Permanent rips,1 Northern end as shown,2. Middle and 3. South end. a 4th one can appear at Northern end. Fish these rips. Never fished the rocks on the south side (AKA The Boot ) Whiting off the beach is a yes,I have caught on prawns.
