    Snakes

Yer this one was basking in the sun on the golf course buggy track in the sticks and twigs, got really sick from it for 3 days, ended up in hospital, but I lived in that area a long time never expected to see a snake around there, anyway just wanted to let you know cause I never expected it and I am sure there are others out there that are not expecting snakes to be around the cliff tops of malabar etc. Anyway lol Savit ,I have never been back to Jolong nor will you see me anywhere near Oberon Lake.

    Lures and rust

Spray metal lures with WD-40,they say that it acts like a fish attractant but for rust etc works great. Don't spray on plastic, only metal.
  4. My old shoes and cleats lasted many years,as you can see the plates were not the issue although very worn down the plates still worked fine, the issue was the sole separated from the shoe but these lasted years and years.

    Snakes

Just letting you know, years ago when Prince Henry Hospital was still open. I went down to a spot at South Sydney called Jolong, anyway I walked along the track that the Golfers use and to my surprise was bitten by a baby Brown Snake or Coastal Taipan along the cliff tops. So keep this in mind, even when near cliff tops on the coast, snakes are still around.

Yer sorry that's a Drummer record my mistake. Can't find Australian length record but NSW length record so far is 48cm. Spyros Vassiliades Avoca 24-05-12 We all need to start measuring our catches, with photos. https://ansa.com.au http://ansansw.com.au
  7. when you put the nuts on I normally grind the thread a bit with a grinder to stop the nuts coming off,as for the bolts going through the sole you have to use washers.I didn't use the washers here inside the shoe so hopefully they won't pull through but these are great I have only ever used this type of steel cleat.I normally use runners but this time went for these, the sole is soft rubber maybe not the best choice but we will see how it goes.
  8. Those shoes look unreal Flatheadluke,I will try to hunt for those next time but for now I just made these up should last me a few years,my last set lasted me several years but in the end the shoe rotted from the saltwater but several years of use was good. Kmart for the shoes $17 and the plates etc $24,total = $41 Unfortunately I had to buy a new drill and drill bits cause I could not find my old one, never mind next time I will go with the steel stud Footy Boots.
  9. This subject is currently all over the news and there is now a current ban on imported prawns til further notice. Some prawn farms in QLD have been temp shut down and prawns destroyed due to infection.
  10. Nice fish bro but don't be eating it,the pollution in the cooks river has been really bad for over 40 years. Dept of Fisheries also say eating fish west of Sydney Harbour Bridge is not advised for those who fish Sydney Harbour.Due to toxins and pollution. Just letting people know.
  11. Ah Thanks as you can see it got a bit rough at high tide on the island so I had to leave or get trapped or get washed off. I decided to leave before my way out was flooded.
  12. Ah sorry guys the only thing I would wear on slippery rocks and water are old fashion Kleats on a cheap running shoe.
  13. Only got 3 this morning got too rough and unfishable, too much water cause of high tide was like a river rapid, had to abandon my fishing. Anyway all over 35cm,catch and release.
  14. Yep Happy New Year 2017 ! its 0.145 here I'm getting ready to go fishing, South Sydney this morning at one of my regular spots, weather and conditions seem to be ok,might even be too calm but i'm going anyway, hope to be fishing at sunrise, well be safe and enjoy.
  15. Alvey Blackfish reel 455B XL $60 or any egg beater reel will do Wellzy94,go with whatever reel you are most comfortable with. Jarvis Walker , Aurora Ocean Blackfish rod $40 Nice setup at the end of the day its the line, float, hook set up that counts the most but this is the rod and reel I use for Blackfishing off the rocks, you will have to search on the internet where to get them,I had to get mine posted from QLD. Just remember bro you only need to drop your float into the wash zone and let it drift out or around where you want ,hardly any casting involved, let the float drift out or around with the current,no need to cast out.To be honest with you I find an egg beater type reel to be the most fun Black fishing, remember Blackfish like the conditions to be a bit rough off the rocks and in most cases around high tide is prime time,so this combination off the rocks you tread a thin line between safe to fish and too dangerous to fish because of this combination of favoured conditions the black fish like,so becareful, your safety is first priority, the fish is second, many times I have had to loose fish, rather than get washed in off the rocks on days when one just pops up out of the blue over the ledges.
  16. I have caught Spanish Mackerel off Shark Point, aka Clovelly point but it can be a dangerous spot as one forum member here found out. Coogee beach at night, try it,it is deep water. Coogee the aboriginal word for bad smell is part of Randwick council
  17. always rinse your rods and reels with fresh water after use, anything thats been in saltwater rinse or it will eat away your gear.
  18. umm I wouldnt use degreaser near anything unless I wanted to be stripped back to bare metal or bare. sorry but I wouldnt put that stuff near my rods or reels.
  19. Vaseline for my reel insides where needed and WD-40. I have had an Alvey reel for almost 30+ years, always used vaso and or WD-40,never had a problem and the insides are still in original condition. WD-40 for my lures, after use.
  20. For that price I would be getting a rod / reel combo,go look at any of the big stores also depends what fish your targeting if you just want to target anything like most people when they go fishing, just get a basic rock fishing rod / reel combo 12 - 14 foot. Just go buy a $40 rod / reel combo, beach rod/rock fishing rod from Kmart unless you targeting big fish with special rigs and bait for that fish as for casting out long distance, everyone wants to do that,if you can get 100m with your cast your doing unreal, even spinning for surface fish with good gear,a 100m cast is a good one,a 50m cast off the rocks is plenty,10kg line, ball sinker to a swivel then a 1m trace line of same 10kg line to a 2 or 3 zero suicide hook with a cube of pilchard on it will get you your basic bottom feeder fish or occasional hungry surface fish scouting the bottom out for a feed.Just remember bottom fishing off the rocks you will get some snags. If your intention is to spin for surface fish then you need a rod for spinning/heavy spin rod etc costs about $100 + then you need an egg beater at least 5.1 ratio preferably 7.1 this means for every time your handle turns 1 rotation, your reel turns 5.1, 5 times,7.1, 7 times anything less is useless for spinning off the rocks. Most heavy spin rods are 10ft with a long butt, one piece is better but I got a 2 piece and works fine, most spin rods have high speed runners as well,15kg line will do,40 gram lures, run the line straight to a snap swival wire trace, then if you want to change lures just unsnap and snap a new one on..Anyway depends what your fishing for,so hopefully this will give you a little info, most surface fish will hug the coastline. Good luck !
  21. Wow their not shy are they ! You see what I mean in my other posts ? Any excuse they can muster up for a ban.
