  1. Although this is an old post 2014. I still have to say, WOW ! it never was that crowded back in the 90s,I remember only ever seeing one other person fishing there when I was there and most times I was left alone, fishing was just as popular back then if not more, strange how times change. Nice talking to you,see you around ! cheers
  2. Big Southerly swell today Sunday 2/June/2017 - 2m - 3m , probably a bad day to go there due to the 2 - 3 metre Southerly swell but on a flat day as good as the rest.
  3. ah ok np,done but now i look worse than the frog fish thingy

    Long Reef

Nice catch, although my best blackfishing has been in winter off the rocks, havent noticed any decline in numbers during winter times and i would have to say winter is the best time off the rocks for Blackfish, anyway as long as we catch them Same goes for spinning for surface fish.
  6. Good luck bro, im sure you will catch fish on Poddys.
  7. Sorry i have no idea, looks like something you would get from the Jungle river somewhere in South America or see on National Geographic. Anyway looks ugly and looks poisonous, not something you would put on the dinner plate presented as a whole fish with chips or salad.
  8. Ah you like that one huh ! from memory i think it was N.Z but not 100% Have been spooled before, its not good not knowing what took your line. That not the vid is saw,the one i saw his girlfriend gaffs it for him and he runs off and gets rope and ropes it around the tail while his girlfriend holds it and they said they were using 80LB line.I didnt want to post the vid here cause it had advertising on it. anyway i think he has got a few vids of Yellowfin tuna at same spot.
  9. No problem buddy, hopefully next time we will get more and hopefully it wont be so rough and windy,so then we can concentrate on fishing rather than watching our backs from the seas.
  10. Thanks guys, nothing special to brag about but 5 between the 2 of us is better than nothing. That is me and yes the same spot vid was taken just after we got off the rocks due to how rough it got quickly. Picture was taken about 9.30/10.00 am vid was taken at 12.30pm as you can see lots of water now coming over rock,1 hour later again and waves where punching straight over the rocks without any obstacles to stop them, it got extremly bad.Just goes to show how things can change in a couple of hours from fishable to very dangerous and not fishable at all but i have fished this area for over 30 years and know when to get on and off,got a little tricky wading back in to get out cause we had to time a lull in the swells to get out so we could cross back onto the mainland, the entry and exit points become like a running river.
  11. We normally rig them the same as a Yellowtail, behind the back of the head and tail,if you just rig them on one hook in the head area you will miss fish because lots of times we have had just the head left on the hook after a big bite. Take care as there is a lateral line you can see running from head to tail, you will see it if you look close, you need to put the hooks above this and away from it,avoid piercing it or you will kill the fish instantly, also Poddys are very fragile and if handled too much will die. You can also as mentioned above put a hook through its lips or nose area but if a fish bites it from behind it will just leave the head left on the hook. Although Squid are excellant bait and to eat they love eating your live bait and you will find a lot of squid eating your bait, the squid normally attack its stomach area if its a dead bait or the back of the head if its a live bait. No.2 Suicide hook is what i use/1 meter trace/swivel/float/10LB main line/bobby cork/or small balloon or you can rig them without the float so they swim on the bottom, sometimes i use a sinker, sometimes i do not. I use 2 hooks one fixed to the line and that one is hooked behind the head the other is a free running hook, like a keeper hook that hooks its tail end. They are an excellent bait.
  12. Went out on Sunday morning with a mate at first light to the South Sydney ledges, was low tide and blowing S/SW about 30kms,not good fishing weather,1st swell running North about 1m,second swell running South abouth 0.5-1m but the wind wipped up the swell and by about 12 noon and with the incoming tide, high due at 3.30pm, we had to abandon our ledge due to it getting too dangerous with white outs coming over the area as the tide was rising,it rained and it was cold as ice due to the wind but we managed to get 3 blackfish and 2 drummer, threw 2 drummers back at 28/29 cm due to the 30cm legal size. These fish were taken in a space of 1.5 hours the rest of the time was standing there watching floats and freezing, better than last weeks fish where we only took 1 luderick and gave it away to someone cause we couldnt be bothered cleaning the 1 fish. Short video. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AlGOn4GVmtRRgSR5CWT3yR4iZ9A-
  13. I normally use floats in areas with rough bottoms to get away from snags or I use balloons or a large bobby cork for live bait or dead bait for something a bit bigger No sinker/no float if this allows you to get your bait where you want it,.with the exception of Black fishing as it is traditionally fished with a stem or small cork type float.
  14. Sometimes you get nothing, thats fishing.
  15. Just for encouragement go to You Tube and put in the search for, man hooks 230 LB world record, yellow fin tuna off rocks. It will get you keen as mustard.
  16. Hi There, Best reels for spinning metal lures are 5.1 gear ratio or 7.1 if you can get one and able to spool 15 - 20LB line, matched with a dedicated spin rod with high speed runners and able to cope with casting the 20LB line. 40g/60g metal lures, chrome are my favourites. Oh use a snap swivel so you can change lures without the hassel of using knots everytime you want to chage lures, sometimes the fish bite your line off near the lure or as an extra precaution you can use a wire trace ready made with a snap swivel but try to use silver/chrome ones. Ah one more thing if you hook something big, Hang On !
  17. They are always around summer and winter. Fish at 1st light till it gets too sunny, say 9am,unless overcast or rainy then fish as long as you want. Best around, 2 hours before or 2 hours after high tide at 1st light or late hour or 2 before sunset and there is supposed to be a non active feeding period for fish the 1 hour during dead high or low tide then activity picks up again once the tide starts to move in or out again, for all fish (beleive it or not ) Well minimum activity. They go with the flow
  18. Yer nice report, good days catch. Just watch out for the sharks.
  19. Wasn't my study. Just letting you know what the health experts say. Eat as much as you want, just throw back the ones with 2 heads.
  20. I cook and eat the bigger ones .
  21. We use Poddy Mullet when we can get them. We get them from a salt water river system near the shore in shallow water. We use a bait trap and put some mashed up bread in the trap, then throw small amounts of bread near the trap to attract them close to the trap. Yes they are great live bait and Yes they will work in the surf or any saltwater but keeping them alive is trick as they are small and fragile and can die of shock quit easy. Sometimes you get your 20 limit, sometimes you get 1 or 2 on a bad day in a couple of hours, calm water no boats or whatever to scare them off is best places to get them.
  22. Hey guys greasing ya line is so old school now, they sell float line now, line that floats on top of the water,no mess. Just a tip dont use coloured line to the hook.
  23. I haven't used it but I cant see why you would have any problems using it to launch a Yak from there, its a new boat ramp. That's all I know bro, sorry.
  24. Bro I think the weir is illegal to fish150m upstream of it and 25m downstream of it, from the weir. Better go check just to be safe.
  25. Long bay near Maroubra ? If its there then there is a new boat ramp there launch from there, did I say there too many times If not sorry wrong place, this ramp goes basically straight out into open sea.
