  1. Good job guys, they look awesome,at that price I would be doing the same thing.
  2. Grew up in Bondi and use to fish the rips at night on prawns for whiting and whatever else. Parking is a problem and fishing during the day most of the time is full of people. Use to spin off North Bondi point a lot too. Good all round fishing beach.
  3. Yer man I sometimes toss a 40 grammer Pilchard coloured lure or Crome, off the rocks,30g ,40g anything else is too light for me and over 40g too heavy but that gives you an idea. Just beware ,where you go, Sydney Coastal Rocks are the most dangerous in Australia with regards to fisho's getting washed off the rocks and drowning.
  4. ACJ, I got stalked by a shark off Clovelly Cemetery one day, many years ago, about 200m out on a surf ski, heading for Wedding Cake Island Coogee from Bondi,I never went back. The fin came at me from my right side and submarine dived under my ski,I was that scared I was almost crying and couldn't stop myself from shaking. I say your mate is telling the truth,if not i swear they are out there, where he said.

Anything over 40 is a title fight.
  6. You sure can catch them on the out going tide. Like me today 4 hours flicking a lure and got nothing. oh well.
  7. wow crazy video, grats on the Marlin.
  8. Err, I have been fishing the river lately with poppers and a few other types, got nothing. Was down at Yarramundi Bridge today and around that area but i am restricted to fishing from the banks so it was a fail trip for me. Comp ? wondered why there was a few too many fishing around the place. Lots of weed.
  9. I read it was west of the bridge, never heard of it being east towards the sea.
  10. I once thought lights scared off fish too until I did some research and found light actually attracts fish. Next time you fish at night say at a wharf etc,set up a portable flood light and shine it into the water in front of you and see what happens, after about 15 min all the bait fish and squid are in your light area.
  11. Yer bro spin rods are normally around the 7/8/9/10 foot mark with a long butt so it can be tucked under your arm pit when you spin.one piece is always better cause you can have mishaps when spinning with a 2 piece rods sometimes / not always but it does happen.I use a 2 piece rod but my preference is one piece and must be a heavy duty spin rod all come with high speed runners your fishing for Spanish Mackerels etc, needs to be up to the standard to land such a fish. As for the reels must be gear ration minimum 5.1 or 7.1 is best but hard to find.Just use a good quality egg beater with this gear ratio and able to spool 200m of 15 - 20lb line.Good line like schneider. Good old metal lures, I love them. 40/50/60 grams off the rocks. Ah and a snap swivel trace. spray your lures after use with WD-40 its a fish attractant and stops your lures / hooks etc from rusting. I have a daiwa heavy spin rod from years back I still use today,I think its 7 or 8 foot. But there are 3 types Light / Medium / Heavy with variants in between if your spinning for big fish off the rocks go with the heavy.
  12. I have caught Blackfish at low tide and high tide in hot sun on clear days and overcast days, calm days, rough days some of these times have been completely against the Blackfish Bible but you can still catch fish. Other times in the best conditions considered I have caught nothing. There are best times and tides and best weather conditions to catch them but nothing is impossible you just lower your chances when fishing at times when its not as productive but fish can still be caught. How many times have you had a spur of the moment idea to go fishing and you check the tide and its not good for you,so you dont go. Well when i get this idea and the tides are wrong I go anyway ! I will give it a go regardless of the tide because half the fun of fishing is being there and doing something you love, yes I have stood there for hours and caught nothing but you know what, fishing is still fun just being there. Sometimes you win , sometimes the fish win makes the sport exciting, imagine how boring fishing would be if every time you went you caught something. Its the not knowing if you will catch something today that gets you hooked.Pardon the pun.
  13. I would go where Blackfish Angler told you to go,in the Harbour. South Maroubra rocks are exposed to full on ocean swell and wind I would not take my 15 yr old son there. You fish in the wrong weather conditions there and your in the water, pure and simple. Big Greenie and Little Greenie are the only places I know at South Maroubra and both are dangerous in the wrong conditions and yes people have been washed off the rocks there and died. Bad choice.
  14. Stick to the KMART rods their cheap and do the job. I spoke with a NSW Fishery Officer out West about the Nepean River some years ago now and he said to me that the Nepean River was full of Bass, they stock it every year with young bass, since the NSW fishing Licence started.
  15. Lol, I will keep a Drummer 30cm + but most of the time they bust up my Blackfish rig and these days my eye sight is not as good as it was i have to wear glasses to rig up and even then its a struggle,so re rigging is a real pain for me.its always on the lower tide and as for burley I think anything will arouse them.So because my Blackfish rig is very light if a Drummer takes my weed bait it will break my line and I will have to re rig. But on a scale of 1-10 I would get busted off by a Drummer 2/10 rare but it happens.
  16. Tarwhine can be caught from Little Bay beach at night on a rising tide 2 hours before high tide til 2 hours after high tide on prawn. 5kg line, small ball sinker running to a small swivel ,1 meter trace of same line to a number 2 Suicide hook. This beach used to be fished / netted professionally back in the days of past for Whiting. Bondi Beach in the rips, same rig as above for whiting and bream
  17. Best time for fishing, fish from 2 hours before high tide until 2 hours after high tide,at dead high tide for 1 hour the fish go off the bite until the tide turns. Botany Bay fish is ok to eat,the Cooks river mouth and anything up the cooks river is toxic due to the industrial waste leaked in to the Cooks river of past,West of the Tom Uglys bridge is suspect too.
  18. Hi people, this spot is good for all types of fish,2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide is the prime time but this spot can be very dangerous in a South/South East/East swell or any wind from those directions above 15km per hour, very slippery, low to water, rock platform. The swell can run along the rock face sideways and knock you off fast,so watch that in those conditions.Read the sign as you walk down letting you know how many people have died there since they started keeping records, all safety equipment required and fishing inspectors get down there too,so be licenced or fined. Some big fish have been caught off here in the past including Kings/Jews/Blackfish/mixed bag most varieties/most surface fish because it is so close to the entrance of Botany Bay anything swimming through there is possible. Keep in mind this area was once a rough area in the past and I would not go here alone at night due to the local population/crime rate etc/muggings to be more precise. During the daylight hours say from 7am to 5pm your fine.after that the local population might start coming out and hanging around and harassing you,I was there a couple of months ago and some local drunks up early or up late hanging around causing trouble in a group of 8,drunk and on the rocks and they were locals, you know the locals if you know the area.

  20. One of my favorite spinning spots.Shark Point, Generally anything over a 1m swell, you will be on the alert watch, 1.5m swell and most times it will be too rough,2m swell and you have a death wish. This all depends what direction the rocks face but most rocks along Sydney coast face East/North East/South East/North and South and are exposed to the ocean swell, so any swell will be coming at you over 1 meter from one of those directions. Anyone fishing off the rocks in 2m+ swells is crazy and will most probably get washed off the rocks no matter how good you are. Any wind over 15km/per hour blowing on to the rocks where you are fishing and coming from any direction from the seaside is a worry and you need to constantly watch as the wind will create wind swell and waves, over time these waves and swell can increase in size as the wind continues to blow. A rising tide, swell and waves will increase on a rising tide, only fish a rising tide if the swell is less than 1m and the wind less than 15km/per hr from the rocks. Low tide or a run out tide 2 hours after dead high tide in a 1m or under swell and a wind of less than 15km/per hr is most likely the safest conditions to fish off the rocks, dead calm,no wind,no swell is ideal safety but rare. Any wind or swell from the South/South East from the rocks around Sydney in most cases will be cause for alarm for rock fishing.North East swell or wind will also be ringing the alarm bells depending on where you fish and also what direction the rocks face and tide. Main points to remember is a Rising Tide in swell above 1meter and or wind above 15km per hour is High Risk, anything stronger than this is Dangerous and you have a very high risk of being washed off the rocks by a rogue wave. Shark Point faces East,so as I said above any swell above 1m or wind coming in from the North/East/South/NE or SE above 15km/per hr,you will have problems. High tide and those measurements and you will most likely get washed in. Low tide or out going tide in a 1m+ swell or wind above 15km will just make the rogue wave steeper as it moves towards you and when it hits the shallow water on the rocks in front of you,the wave gets higher busting over the rocks and over you. So the moral of this story is. Unless you are a veteran and you have planned a way to get out of the water after you get washed in,if all goes well and your not knocked unconscious or ripped to shreds by barnacles, then do not fish from ocean rocks in swell above 1m or wind above 15kms per hour and certainly not on a rising tide, fishing above these swell measurements and wind puts you in the high risk category just waiting for a rogue wave to rip you off the surface of the rocks,no matter how good you are. The barnacles on that point are about 1 to 2 inches high in some areas, sliding across those and going into the water there will quickly arouse the sharks that frequent the area there off the rocks and instead of fishing you will become the bait. This point is very exposed to wind and swell. Same goes for Little Bay and 90% of the Eastern Suburbs and South Sydney Rocks from Bare Island up to the Gap at Watsons Bay. Always check the weather http://www.bom.gov.au/marine http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/about/check-rock-fishing.shtml
  21. When I was young we used to go down to Rushcutters Bay at night off the wall near the park and spin for Tailor at high tide. The Tailor were attracted to the lights from the mariner there and yes we got fish. Times have changed since then and due to it being close to Kings Cross I would becareful fishing there at night time, dont go there alone or you may end up being mugged.
