  1. Going to Port Stephens to chase a bill fish
  2. Hi Guys Cpt I think u r on the best course taking to the boat builder, there are 2 many variables for us amateurs to think though on boat performance weight distribution, cavitaion, hull lenght etc etc etc, repwoering with non factory talk to the factory first. On the EFI thing and economy, having just researched the buggery outof outboards to repower my boat, The Merc have an EFI 2stroke, EFI Opti 2 Stroke and the Verado 4stroke, the EFI is bascily old 2stroke tech, due to US pollution legislationt hey can not even develop basic 2stroke gear. The Opti is a whole different issue. Great feul no smoke lower noise than basic 2stookes and is inthe same style as E-Tec and the Yammie HPDI, So u can EFI a 2stroke, but it is nothing like an EFI Opti 2stoke. Good Luck Captain like all will be very interested in hearing what the manufacturer says. Jon
  3. Yeah lucky buggers, the PFT is not for two weeks yet 18/19, had a great time last yr but not bills hoping for one thi syr. jon
  4. Hi All R there any other adventures going to head to Port for the PFT to chase Bill fish? Will be going up Friday nite and fishing Sat and Sun at this stage Jon
  5. Hi Eric Thanks for the offer, I will take u up on it, still very unsure, such a significant investment for us, prob be othe only motor I buy new for a boat so want to make the rright choice. Will give the shop a call and tryt o get down on a Sat would this b ok jon
  6. Hi Guys I have preliminary approval from the boss to move forward with upgrading my trusty 150hp Yammie. I have loved this engine, quite for a 2stroke and exceptional on the troll at low rpm. I have been looking around and pricing from some of the site sposnors and others and am at two opts, looking for some thought and wondering if anyone has one of these 2 motors ona boat so I could see how they run. I have a heavy 5.8m haines Center Cab boat. Opt 1: Suzuki 140hp 4 Stoke, call it 16k on the boat with a SS prop. Opt 2: HPDI VMAX Yammie, call it 14,500 on the boat ss prop, They both read as great engines, little concerned about dropping HP, and out of the hole performance on the 4, we have a little guy 2 at the moment but in the next 5-7yrs I imagine he will want to ski/play behind the boat as a skip bait(I did not really say that) I have been very happy with the Yammi engine I have and am tempted to stay with a brand, but have read so much about the 4strokes and eco stuff, looking for so feed back, I believe the HPDI's r almost as good as the 4's on consumption and smoke. Anyone have one I can look at or thought between the 2. To move to 150hp 4 in suzuki it goes up 5k, and the yammie about 3, 15K is the ceiling I am working with and very happy there is one so not going to try and edge it around Hoping for feed back Regards Jon
  7. Hi all Any raiders fishing Pittwater tomorrow? I will be out from Bayview round 6am Jon
  8. Hi Mark Where r u going ot be leaving from to go wide and what is your destination, might like to tag along inthe haines. Jon
  9. Hi Haraka's local is a very good steer, we have pulled a number of very good fish form this area in the last two weeks and been smoked by a few more. There is lots of structure in this area, use the sounder and look for balls of bait then work the area, U can go as far sth as newport and still fnd fish though more thana few km's and they will be thin @ this time of the year. Jon
  10. Hi pogo Fished Pittwater yesterday and found squid on the nth side of Joey, on the west end, quite small "kingy candy" size and took 1.5 pink jug. Jon
  11. How good is a mid week fish. No queue to ramp, park or twits showing there inability to operate safely. we head out of Bayview @ around 6am, and motored up to Palm Beach headland, 1st cast with a pink 1.5 jig and a squid on board, next 30mins had 5 more. Days was setting off to a cracking start, no catch and release squid here, catch and convert was the game. Trolled palm headland and out a bit, nothing, West head nothing flint nothing, Lion Island rock cod rod cock rod cock small squire, small bream, Careel Bay, Fat Albert nothing, piles of fresh squid and could not even find pickers to have a go. Headed back to the ramp and unloaded a cpl of squid onto a fisho going out and wished him luck. Mind u still a damm sight better than the alternative which was going to work lOL Jon
  12. Hello Fellow Raiders, Hi Mark, Jo Well the squid were not really wanting to play the be someone elses food game, flicked for 2hr's in 8 different spots for none, Then a cpl of trolls round washes with my never fail talior lure only to dispell that trueism. Hooked up a gulp and flick some structure ont he way bacl to Roseville in a half hearted way was hot and tired by then, home with nothing to eat and nothing to pretend was bigger than it really was LOL Well out tomorrow again and see what it brings going to head to Pittwater, anyone else going? and might have a place. Jon
  13. Hi Guys We had tuesday off and thought I would take the boat for a run, popped a cpl of rods on a some berkley gulps, some minnows and went for a run. Tucked outside the haeds to have a look and there were the Salmon. What was to be an hour or two run turned into 5hrs of Salmon fun, double hookup, knotted line, twisted hooks and generally a serious amount of fun. There were three of four schools working between Nth Head and Blue Fish. Not too boat shy yet and fairly hungry. stopped taking pics after four, wasting good casting time LOL

  20. Hi All hoping to go wide for a chance at some yellowfin and a big boat, Just had a look at the weather and it might not be such a nice ride after all. We will see and give a report on Monday Jon
  21. Hi All Well after a fishless month due to the dreaded "stuff" Lance and I final decided for mental sanity to take Friday off. Hit Bayview ramp at 6am, with light gear as reading here had said the Dollies were smallish, I had remembered everything bait, lures, pliers etc etc. On the water heading to Joey to get some squid and yakkas I realise the only thing I do not have is the GPS mark for Terrigal, had only fished the Nth Mark thats not there. Collected bait FRESH is best and we figured the seas were light so head towards the old FAD then go Nth knew it was only 8kms Nth. Got to the 85m mark found some boat working the traps, saw fish but no interest, keep going out, Got a little lumpy, enough that I though we might not spot it, decided to use browny points and rang the wife in Canberra on holidays with her mum to go get on the web and sms me the mark. No points left now but gee was it worth it. We got to the mark 3-4 boats fishing it and we did what I HATE people doing: 1st drift past 1 live squid 1 yakka, 2 huge hits, boat 2 nice Dollies on the light gear was great fun, heading back one of the boats says not bad start we have been here for an hr and nothing, We were having a very special day it was on every 2nd pass we hit fish, dejected the other boats bar one left. Seas were beautful, awesome glassy smooth, fished all the baits out, took 15 lovely dollies. Was the sort of calm smooth toped sea u see a few times a season. So good we started playing casting popers, plastics and plugs, was AWESOME watching schooling Dollies chase the popers, we had plenty of fish so all theses ones went back, finally arms almost falling off we headed back round 1pm a long but very exciting day. Was the best day outside for ages.
  22. hi Joe Yes it is the wave rider, it was gone earlier this year but the MHL web site is givng a temp reading so figure it has to be back Jon
  23. Hi All Was planning on punching out to the MHL bouy tomorrow has anyone been there recently and has it been holding fish? Regards Jon
  24. Hiya Darryl The trailer is about 4 yrs old. Was talking to the guys up there, as this is my 1st trailer boat and they reckon the boat is maybe 10inches 2 far back on the trailer and as a result the nose is bounceing 2 much with trailing weight. Was very scary and a very long slow trip home. jon
  25. Hi All I travelled to the port ove rhte wkend just gone to try my hand at game fishing for the first time. we went looking for some new skills and some beakies. I must note before I get to the gruesome details that i never cease to be amazed by the help[fullness and consideration of guys on this list to each other. It is great to be part of such a friendly and open fishing forum. I posted here to let other know I would be up there and ended up meeting TonyN. He and Dave his mate were great company from the aircon cabin they let us cool of in to the imense help they were in putting gamefish novices to fish. Fished Friday with no idea and did not turn a reel. conditions were horrible 2+1.5 with 25kts sloppy and fishing a cen cabin was a very wet day. Fished Saturday with their help and got big striped tuna, Yellow fin and dollys, the beakies eluded us. Weather was not much better. Then got an invite to travel on TonyN's awesome Mad Fish 603 Signiture, what a cool boat. Sunday was far nicer conditions but the bite seemed to have moved Nth a long way. As I had to travel home Sunday fished a light day. On the whole had an awesome time, meet some great fisho's who were so generous with their time and knowledge that I am confident that I will get my fish soon. Then finshed the wkend with a drive home in the worst storm I have seen in years and what u definitly do not want ot happen to your tralier. So something else to safty check. The T bar weld under the winch. probably the funniest event of the whole wkend showed how new we were to gamefishing, in Sydney we chase lots of kings, so when we radio'ed the yellow fin catch, the BIG game boats asked if there was any size to it, now for us there was we radio back 80-100. This was followed by total radio silence....... the Holy F...... is that KG or Pounds to which we sheepishly had to reply neg neg that is centermeters, much to the merry ment of all listerner. Gamefish don't worry about how long it's all about how heavy. LOL we I hope to head back up there in the next 2wks to see if I can get that 1st fish. Jon
