  1. Hey Brickman, All you need to do is call 1800 406 406 they will probably get you to fill inthe following form AMSA MMSI registration form for your VHF radio. Also If you have a 406 EPIRB you can also register it online at 406 Beacons online registration Hope this helps everyone. Jimmy.
  2. Guess what I also got in the mail ??? Yes a picture of my head on a plastic card !! Was a bit worried but passed with flying colours. Now to get my MMSI and start programming my DSC, it uses channel 70 and it sends a short burst of data Thanks again to Donna and Stewy for organising it.
  3. mrsswordfisherman Any idea when we get our results to the exam? Cheers Jimmy.
  4. Hi Dave and Jason, Appreciate your help. I'll give it a go in the next couple of weekends and see how i fair, if things don't pan out as they should I might just give you a call Jason. Thanks heaps for your help again . Jimmy.
  5. Hi Fisho's I have a flybridge and have the need to add deck lights for the stern for fishing or work. I would like to install 1 switch in the flybridge and another downstairs. Both switches need to be able to turn the light on or off. I have scoured the net for a wiring diagram but can't find a good one for boats. Are you guys able to help me with either where i can find a wiring diag or a site that can help. I am doing some other sparky work on my boat but this one is puzzling me. Hope to get some help. Cheers Jimmy.
  6. Gday, can I ask 2 quick question while on cubing? We went out on Saturday for Zero's, I think we did everything right but no luck. The only thing I think we did wrong was add Tuna oil and some of that fish stimulate to our cubing bucket which meant all our pillies where coated with it as they floated back. Is it best recommended to add these attractants to them or leave the pillies alone and just send them out like that. The other question I have, once you start your cubing and you have been at it for an hr or so, is it too late to move again to try another spot? or do you just persist? the only problem with moving that I see is you never know if the next handful is going to give you that magic run or not Cheers Peahead
  7. Hi Mate, What are you trying to achieve can you post a pic? I recently rewired my Quintrex so I could be of some help. Can you provide a bit more detail as sparky work isn't to difficult it's just knowing the little tricks. Cheers Jimmy.
  8. Hi Arked, Why not install a Depth Sounder Transducer Transom Bracket. You attach the transducer to the bracket then you can simply slide the transducer up and out of the water while you are away, when it's time to fish you simply slide it down. Most boat shops stock this as a standard item. Cheers Peahead.
  9. Hi Fisho's I am looking to get another dash for my quintrex 600 to mount my radio's as currently they are mounted in the cabin behind the steering wheel console. This is a problem as when I am travelling it is hard to hear the radios and a pain if I need to change the stereo, which means I need to stop the boat hop into the cabin to see the radios to change channels or stop to be able to hear the radios. I have no room below the steering wheel so I need to add another console on the passenger side to be able to mount he radios on that. Does anybody know where I can find a second or new console (preferably for quintrex?), not sure if I want to buy from quintrex themselves as I will have to give them my first born. Anyway hope you guys can help, any ideas would be great! Cheers Peahead.
  10. Hi bear_au46 I actually bought one from+_+_) and plugged it into my cigarette lighter. I though excellent now I don't have to pull the batteries out to charge them (just in case) but alas the 3 times I used it, it drained the battery almost flat if I hadn't checked it. I was hopefull it would work but no luck. I think they will only work if they are the expensive type with the regulator and all the assorted bits. Maybe I got a dodgy one but it was a brand name. It just sits on my shelf now. Would be interested on how you go if you get yours. Cheers Peahead.
  11. Hi Raiders Sorry to post this again as I know this is a common post but most answers have PM's associated to them. Have been searching the site for reputable well recommended outboard mechanics in the Dee Why area. Is it me or do these mobile guys not promote their business?? Would appreciate your help Cheers Jimmy
  12. Hi live_baiter Below is a link that a mate of mine sent me this week which can answer your question. Cleaning Tuna Hope it helps Cheers Jimmy
  13. Hey Robbielites, Great idea for the live bait tank, can I ask where you got the tank from and how many litres it holds ?? Have been thinking of the same thing for my quinny. Thanks in advance for your info.
  14. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am going off to see what needs to be done and who i need to talk to, but if it is a marine reserve more than likely nothing may happen, BUT if i convice the right people maybe we can find some compromise. Cheres again. Jimmy.
  15. Hey Fisho's As you may or may not know we have great access to open water directly from the Long Reef Ramp Collaroy. The only problem is that it is exposed to some wild swell in bad times. As I don't have a 4wd or want to run up the beach with my boat a full pelt to retrieve it, i thought that I could talk to someone to use the fishing license funds to build a break wall in front of the ramp therefore making safer for all boaters. This will obviously roll ontp better launching facilities and better fishing for the LBG and rock hoppers. I have the idea but who can I speak to now? any help would be great, i know all the fishos from the Northern beaches know about this spot if not please follow this link that MallacootaPete has kindly added, Long Reef Ramp Collaroy. I think this can be a great setup and make it available for all boaters who want to head offshore. Any ideas of who I can talk to or if this idea is already been kicked around would be great. Cheers Jimmy.
  16. Hi All, An old fisho mate of mine told me cheese (yellow cheese in particular) worked for him I was fishing the hawksbury with some mates and I was telling them the story, we just happened to have a block of coon... so of with a piece and onto the end of the hook and 5 minutes later we pulled in a 25cm killer prawn ! we had never seen a killer prawn before so needless to say we where all freaked out ! never caught one again, mind you I have never used cheese again. Cheers Peahead.
  17. Thanks fisho's You have certainly help me make my mind up on getting a solar panel and appreciate it greatly, wasn't sure if the small removal type panels where just a gymick but I am sold. Hey Robbie, thanks for the number, I will give them a call tomorrow and find what is available for my Quinny 2 battery setup. Unfortunately I have already had my boat covers made so I can't steal your idea of having it built in but damn that was a good idea. Hmmm, now how to sell it to the , maybe I can tell her she doesn't have to carry both batteries to the garage anymore to be charged !! Thanks heaps. Cheers Peahead
  18. Hey Fishos, I don't have room to keep by boat in the garage so it lives out on the street I find that due to not using my boat often enough, I need to pull my batteries out and give them a good charge evry now and then, just to keep them topped up. This is now becoming very boring and mundane, so I am looking at smarter ways or ideas It's too far to run a power cable as it will be exposed to the public and I am not too keen on leaving the charger in the boat, pluse a 10M extension cable. So I have been toying with the idea to buy a portable solar panel to charge my batterries, I don't want to spend a fortune. Do these actually work the removable ones ? (the type thay you plug into the cigarette lighter) I have aslo seen that solar panels regulators are available are these needed as well ? I would appreciate any feedback or experiences you may have had. Appreciate your help. Peahead.
  19. Hey Crazy John, I am in the market to get a 150 Etec for my quinny and this has caused alarm bells to ring for me $400 !! . This might be a silly question, but have you taken it back to the vendor or informed the vendor of the fuel consumption ? Could it be somthing is just wrong with it ? This is the first I have heard of bad fuel consumption. I am looking to increase my time in out the big blue chasing fin and tuna and if this is the case then I need to re-evaluate the Etec's. The only thing I don't like about he 4 strokes though is the weight and how sluggish they are out of the hole... nothing is ever straight forward ! Cheers Peahead
  20. G'day KingVirgin, To give you a better idea of the clasification of wind strength and how they affect the water, follow this link to BOM. http://www.bom.gov.au/lam/glossary/beaufort.shtml It gives you a comparison in wind strength and what the ocean/water should/could be doing. As a boatie I have memorized this and I know have a better idea what the water is going to be like. Also another good site is www.seabreeze.com.au. This site give you both swell and wind strength anything with Red as a wind indicator i would think twice about venturing out. Hope this info helps. Peahead.
  21. Hi Vision21, Pete Thanks for the info, I gave it a go last nigt and it worked a treat! Quite a bit of bubbles came out of the lines, now she turns smoothly and no noise ! Thanks again and see you on the water !!
  22. G'day Vision 21, That is exactly what I have. On the engine side the 2 hydaulic lines go into the ram, at the other end of the ram i have 2 nipples, the kind you unscrew. Thanks
  23. Hi Fisho's I am looking to bleed my hynautic hydraulic steering (single Engine) as I am getting sounds like air bubbles rushing from my steering everytime I turn the wheel. I have had a search on the web but can only find T pieces that I can buy and they cost a fortune Have you guys had experiences in bleeding you hydraulic steering ? Any advice would be great. Thanks Peahead
  24. They already have a few stores open. I was at Coffs Harbour earlier in the year and had a look at the one there. The products seem to be good. the stores are called BFC (boating Fishing Camping) and that is essentially what they stock. Will definatley give the smaller retailers a run for their money but they are not a real threat to Whitworths nor BIAS. if you want to see what they stock do a google search for BFC and you will find them Cheers. Oh and I didn't buy anything when i visited them, bought my stuff from a private operator (he was willing to bargain !)
  25. Hi Raiders, I have booked out Ross Hunters services this Saturday. Fingers crossed the Tuna are still playing. Will let you know how we go. Hopefully I will have some good pics to share !
