  1. An idea I would like to float around is would the more experienced fisho's be prepared to guide/lead an expedition out to Browns ? We can ensure a level of safety by setting a baseline for safety equipment, we can co-ordinate the coast guard to be aware and also a minimum on boat size and how many people per vessel. If we cn also wrangle in someone with a large vessel/s to control regular radio scheds/safety checkins and monitor weather for all crafts, and they have the final say ! there seems to be a lot of raiders wanting to venture out but are not confident to go out on their own. yes browns might be busy with all the raiders there but better it be packed that being there on your own ! Just an idea, raiders what do you think !! I have a 6M quinny spec'd for open water and all safety equipment, I have not been to Browns but have been out multiple times at port stephens chasing marlin 70Km and further. I would be happy to help other raiders if this gets off the ground. Also it must be said that at the end, your own safety is still your own responsability other boats will be there for help and support but if you do not want to go out then don't ! Thanks Peahead.
  2. Hi Mate, I used tolive in Blactown about 3 yrs ago and I used to get my 150 V6 Merc serviced at Independent Outboard Services, you can find their number in the yellowpages. They did a great job and the price wasn't to bad either, they have a pretty good reputation as well, I am pretty sure other fishraiders use them as well. I must add I am not affiliated with them whatsoever, just used their services previously. I no longer use them as I live in Dee Why. Thanks Peahead.

    Wired

Gday Weiry, That is correct, you can use this to power other 12volt accessories. I have a quintrex and they too have the same bus bar only a little bigger... I am actually in the process of replacing my one with a larger one as I have used all my exisiting terminals and I now need more power. The rest of the guys are right though, you do need to test it just to be sure. Peahead.
  4. Hi Livie, Have you thought of using those aluminium rods that are sold at all the shows, they seem to use a blow torch and those rods, the rods simply melt and they liquify to fill in the holes, and from memory it is pretty strong stuff, I am sure you can find them at the boat show next week. In saying that I have not used them so I can't vouch for it, but it looks easy to use and it might just do the job. If it works, then prime the area as ans you said spray the whole leg, it will hopefully look as good as a bought one ! Good luck... peahead.
  5. Gday fisho's Well, finally sorted out my rollers and the boat now flys off the trailer, I actually have to hold it now as it starts coming off as soon as I back the trailer winch cable tension of Anyway, I'm looking at buying one of those south pacific anchor winches for my 6meter quinny after making the lift the anchor up and down a few times she totally agreed Has anyone got any experiences with this type of anchor winch I'm looking at the 700F model. Any comment would be great, and if you have installed it yourself, are there any Gotchas that I need to keep an eye out as I will be fitting it myself. Thanks Peahead
  6. Thanks guys, I do do the forward and reverse suddenly with the car dance as well when i go out with the This weekend i am going to lift the keel rollers some more and ensure all the wobbly rollers wobble as straight as possible. Thanks for your help guys. Peahead.
  7. Hi Fishos, When you are launching at the boat ramp do you ever laugh at the poor bugger pushing for his life to get the boat of his trailer , The when you come back, the same bugger is winching the length of the trailer to get his boat back on ?? Well that poor bastard is probably me. I have had enough of this , I see people drive down, undo their winch cable and push the boat off with one finger, some are even able to drive it off, it's mazing to watch, I even see people able to drive staight onto their trailer, it's fantastic to watch, poetry in motion and they either have the same size boat or the same trailer setup. I want that too. I have a multi roller trailer and a 600 oceansport Quinny. I have already greased and replaced all the keel rollers and pins but it still won't come off easy, no other rollers are stuck or broken. Do the Keel rollers need to take the full weight of the boat and the wobbly rollers only help with allignment ? How do I set up all the rollers to make it a smooth launch and retrieve ? If you have gone through this and fixed this problewm I would like to hear how you fixed it as I am getting really with launcing and retrieving If I do fix the rollers will this automatically help me with driving my boat onto my tralier easier, don't want to winch anymore Thanks for your help and looking forward to your comments.

    Boat Insurance

Hi Fishos, I have just resigned my insurance today with Club Marine. They were the best value for money as I have been with them for years. They do cover fishing gear / personal belongings but only to the value of $500, if you want extra insurance for your fishing gear you have to draw up a list with make, model, serial numbers, price, receipt and they will only pay if you can prove forcible entry. Which means if you leave a rod in the boat while you go to get the car at the ramp and the rod goes missing Peahead
  10. Your a champion swoffa... Thanks for that, I gave him a call and spoke to David,he is set to go do the inspections for me before Friday arvo. He definately came across like he knew what he was talking about, I will post back as too whether he is any good or not. Cheers again Peahead.
  11. Hi Fisho's I hope you can help me, I am looking for a mobile outboard mechanic to give me a pre purchase inspection on a Yamaha v4 130 on the northern beaches. I have looked around but I can't find any land based ones, most aim for the large cruisers. If you know of any or have used one I would greatly appeciate your help with this. I am surprised to find that there is not a demand for this type of service. If you have bought a second hand boat how did you get the engine checked out ?? I used to have a mate that was in the industry so when I was in the market many years ago, he saved me from a bad purchase. Cheers Peahead...
  12. Thanks for that Dave, Welcome to the site, I might actually take you up on that offer in the near future. I know I am going to find it difficult to find the right Berty for me, but i know it's out there. You are right though with the Engine box, that is the only draw back I see especially if you have a billy on the end of the line and it running riot, it will be a pain climbing over the box to get from one side to the other ! (Don't have a competent skipper yet to drive the boat while I fish). Anyway cheers for the info, If I see you I'll give you a wave I normally fish the Hawkbury, Pitt and out wide when it's not too rough. Cheers
  13. Thanks Fisho's I went today to have a look at a Berty located in Sydeny Harbour situated very very close to the Gladeville bridge, Love to tell you the dealer but lets just say their in sydney and they sell boats I had made a 9.30am booking to see the vessel, I thought great, gives me time to look at the outside without the pesky salesman, 9.50am no still around, 10AM I noticed the office open, went in introdueced myself and said I was their 9,30AM appointment, their reply was, who ??? what time ??? be ready in 10 mins he was busy..... READING THE FRICKEN NEWSPAPER and having a coffee!!!! right in front of me. This really got me , I had managed to convince the to come and see the vessel as well, and she was not a happy camper either. Anyway 10.15AM the sales guy arrives, like I had disturbed him from something really important, he climbed on board undid the storm covers and said there... THERE !!!, I really wanted to tell him where to go by now, but because I am seriously looking at purchasing one, I climbed aboard, asked a few questions and asked if could start the engines to see what they were like at cold start and to hear what they were like, the answer from the sales guy was "NO" the engines are fine, I noticed heaps of oil in the bilge and made a comment, I got "oh well someone must have spilt some". That was it, I got up and said not interested . The didn't even bother going aboard she went straight to the car when he opened the boat and said "there" I was amazed at the crap customer service, I had obviously pulled him away from something more important than making a sale. Well, lets just say that 3 of my mates who were going to visit this place next week won't be making an appearance. What a jerk !! By the way Thanks for the info guys It is really usefull.
  14. Hi All, I Was chatting to a mate a work who owns a 595 sportscab Trailcraft, he told me of a disturbing story about his boat last weekend. Apparently he was bottom bouncing near the peak just out of sydney, there was little swell and he was drifting. His son somehow managed to wrap his line around the prop, so he opened the rear door and was trying to untangle the line from the screw, when all of a sudden he noticed some water from a small swell come in from the open transom door which caused his boat to tip and turtle the craft. He lost all his fishing gear and anything that was not bolted down. He and his son sat on the Hull for 1.5hrs until another Fisho drifted passed. Luckily he was able to save the boat partly due to the sealed floor that the trailcrafts have but to all the boats that came to his rescue as soon as the radio call went out from the passer by What is worring though was when the boat was taken out of the water, the sealed section had actually filled with water and that they don't come with a bilge pump as standard (due to the sealed floor) Is it common or I guess extremely dangerous to have these transom doors open at all in open water ??, I would believe if the boat had sealed floors and it self drained then it should have been fine but to have a vessel flip that easy is a very scary thought. Anyway the good thing is their both fine, he gets to buy new fishing gear. Although his insurance only covers him to the limit of $500 Any ideas as too why such a small amount of water could have done this ?? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.. Peahead
  15. Hi Fishos, I am looking at upgrading my Haines Sig 600RE to a Bertram 25 Flybridge in the next month or so, I have not heard of too many people say ill things about this small cruiser. I guess I am asking for any stories you have, or comments in regards to what to look for in particular to the Bertram, apart from getting it properly surveyed what other gotchas should I look out for. Thanks for your comments in advance Peahead
  16. Gday Telco ... I have lost 3 sand anchors at F/S which is a pain as I don't carry a spare so then for the rest of the day i'm forced to drift everywhere, it also makes the missus everytime I have to buy a new one. What I do now, is everytime I anchor up at F/S I remove the shackle attachment from the top of the main arm of the anchor to the bottom, I then use 2 thick Cable ties to hold the chain to the top of the anchor arm. This way if the anchor gets stuck, I simply lift the anchor, the cable ties snap and the anchor is is lifted backwards no more lost anchors I do sometimes use 3 cable ties depending on how strond the current is running. Hope this helps. Peahead
