  1. The surface action was probably salmon, I was down their a few weekends ago and although I was unable to land one their were plenty about including trevally, try surface plastics, sluggos and the like, cheers.
  2. After playing with that rod of yours lastnight, (no pun intended), I think you should invest in a shark sheild and start practising breath holds, I think you are going to need it.
  3. Congrats Bobfish, may the bream floodgates open for you now, cheers.
  4. Just be carefull as the clutches in the nissans are crap, my brother had one from brand new we stuck it on the sand after 17000k and the clutch just slipped like hell, was a devil of a job getting it out with the tide coming in, nissan wouldnt come to the party with warranty, just do a goole search on navara clutch slip and you will see that their are many people complaining about this, other than this he is happy with his purchase. cheers justin.
  5. In these low salinity coffee coloured waters, the fish will probably be down deep holding on cover, try lipless crank baits with internal rattles, my favourite is babyvibe 43, get it down deep into structure and twitch it back, sometimes you have to annoy the fish into striking imo, cheers.
  6. Gday mate this spot produces good fishing although not off the wharf, I usually walk to the left of the wharf and follow the joggers path, flicking plastics, have caught plenty of fish here, and on a nice day their is usually some nice views around, bream flatties whiting flounder taylor are the go here, good luck.
  7. Sorry to hear of your loss, have you thought of getting in touch with the local scube club and offering a reward, my missus dives and although probably wouldnt be up to it, some of the guys that I have met through her probably would be depending on depth, would be money well spent IMO.
  8. Mate i sometimes have been known to underwaterfish from chinemans beach and swim almost right around to balmoral, I know its not middle head but its not far from it, I personally havnt seen any sharks their but you be assured that their are the add ones with all the bait in the harbour, espescially when the salmon show up, their was post on a underwateros site last year about a ouple of guys that got buzzed by a white off north head, and good mate of mine who fishes the lanecove and parra river heaps regulary sees bulls and whalers all the time, having said all this, if you think about all the people in the estuarys and the ocean on the eastern seaboard every weekend they must number in their thousands, yet their are only a handfull of reports every year. p.s the snorkelling around this area is fantastic and well worth a look, I found a great whiting spot recently doing this.
  9. What is the outfit you are using, in the photos it looks like it has only got three guides, very interested to know, p.s. eating out of Hen and chicken is not usually reccomended, but the odd one may be allright, although I wouldnt risk it, just my opinion, good work nice trev.
  10. Sorry Bobfish have been busy, walk the dog is usually best performed with a surface lure but can be utilized with plastics rigged on worm hooks, (ecogear grass minnows in pink are good), I found it difficult to learn and have found that some lures make it easier than others, best way to describe it would be pointing rod tip to the water and on the side and as you wind steadily, jerk the rod tip smoothly about four inches back and forward, smoothness is the key, this retrieve is dynamite when fishing the surface for bream, fish the run up tide early morning over oyster encrusted rocks, cast a popper or fizzer right up onto the shoreline let it rest when the rings from the splash have dissapated use this technique for about 2-4 metres hopefully to where the water depth starts to drop off then pause, usually you will get hit on the pause, you dont need a boat to di this you can also cast along the shore line, try to pick good areas with lots or rocky snags, also best done with the sun in front of you as I have found that when your shadow falls on the water the fish can become spooked very easily, try surecath poppers very cheap, or river2sea poppers are also good. The easiest surface lure to learn walk the dog is called a sammy although it is not a true popper. Slow roll is just a steady slow retrieve with a few pauses, done best with plastics rigged weedless on special jigheads or even better an sx-40 ecogear hardbody, gentle wind pause, let the llure float up to the surface, when you see it pause some more then continue the slow roll, you can add the odd twitch or even lift the rod tip occasionally to vary this. Lift and twitch is best performed IMO with a gulp worm, turtleback or even most gulps, cast out towards whatever structure you are fishing, let sing then deadstick, (no rodmovement 10 seconds) then lift rod tip up quickly and jiggle the tip towards the top of the lift this produces twitching in the lure, let it sink again and deadstick again for ten seconds, usually the lure gets hit whilst sitting on bottom or on the drop, so watch your line whilst sinking, fluoro braid works best in this situation. Cheer for now and goodluck.

    Dodgy Servicing

As a mechanic with 15yrs experience it is very unusual to have to retorque any gaskets in the motor vehicle trade and I am unaware if this applies to the marine industry, advancements in gasket technology is what I put this down too, advancement in coolant also should be considered and most headgaskets come now days with heat activated sealants within, having said this their may be some marine engines that still need a retorque at specific hours. In the motor trade you will find that service books are mass produced for a range of cars and thay are not always model specific, its just not cost effective for them to do it that way, so you may have conflicting information in them, for example some service books still have adjust tappets still written in them even when the model of car has hydraulic lifters. Im sure that this will also apply in the marine industry, their may be a model of outboard that indeed does need retorque and it just simplly does not apply in your case, check your invoice if it indeed says that it has been done, I would then take it up with the dealer, cheers Justin.
  12. Have found arount the marina at the spit usually produces a few, just park in the marina car park then walk south along the grassed area until you come to the floating houses, around this area is a good spot, and bycatch is also good whiting, bream, lizards, flounder, trevally and also iy you have a family not a bad place for kids to learn, this is were I taught my five yr old, can also produce big tailor at times and being MH a jew or a king wouldnt go astray Im sure, cheers. p.s must use peeled prawns here, have not caught them on anything else, long shank hook, one or two split shots and cast to the weed edges.
  13. Gday Bobfish, I dont consider myself a pro, however most of my Bream fishing is done standing 10 feet from a very damn good Bream fisho who has won tournaments, and usually finishes well in all others over a long period of time, I have been fortunate enough to learn the trade from him, factors that I consider most important when chasing Bream are, fish to the conditions, fish the tides, no run no fun, fish as light as possible, I am currently running 6pnd tld braid and 6pnd nitlon leader and I am finding this to be a little to heavy at the moment as, example three weeks ago we were both fishing a marina in the parra and I got flogged by my mate at least 15 fish to nil, we were both using gulp craws he was using four pnd tld and four pnd fulling mills leader and I was not, now that was not probably the only reason he smashed me, the guy can cast 20 metres and land his unweighted gulp on a bloody pin head, sometimes I cant hit the side of a barn, accurate casting is a must if fishing structure for bream, practise, practise, practise, also being accurate is not all you need, you must be able to land the plastic softly in some situations or you can simply spook them off, combine this with all other variations such as walk the dog, slow roll, twitch and lift, correct jighead in relation to plastic, sharp trebles on hardbodys and it can become frustrating, also I strongly reccomend getting good polarised sunnies, I have crap ones atm and struggle to see fish when sight fishing in some light conditions when my mate says look at the size of that and promptly puts his plastic right in front of it, and I am still staring in the water with a puzzled look, sometimes I think he has some kind of Jedi powers, so in summing up get yourself some plastics that work, gulp craw in camo is going off for us atm, baby vibe 43 hardbodies preferably with orange underneath or natural looking, fantastic hardbody in murky or lowlight conditions, set your self a game plan and stick with it, trust me it will pay off eventually, once you catch a few that way, then change game plan and try other tecnniques, espescially surface fishing, just about the best fun that you can have fishing imo, be stealthy in the boat no excessive noises and most of all have fun, cheers Justin, (FIRST POST) sorry so long.
