Yep, but the bigger, double jointed models. The only thing with them is that the fittings are screwed into them & a big cod will pull them clean out of the lure, so I unscrew all the fittings, araldite them, & screw them back in. That holds them.DSCN5554.thumb.JPG.e472d5086a18e0f143d64a8c5874195c.JPG

Ahh yep OK might grab one.. As I said had good success with em with the bass... Blacks probably best hey?

My 2 fave surface lures are missing from that lot. A double jointed jitterbug & a Kingfisher. Both wide paddlers that work best with a slow, constant retrieve. I like them in black.

My mates rank the Jackall Pompadour, but I haven't had much of a chance to use them as the Jitterbug keeps getting whacked!

Yep used to catch alot of bass on the old jitter bugs are you talking about the abogarst ones

aaaahhhhh that would be a cod...no barra in the Lachlan hahaha...I get em in pitch black...find a spot that's clear of snags and easy for casting....we getem in the middle of open pools once its dark as they come out and roam...stick with it mate it will happen..rick

Yep that's what I was going to ask how do you cast in the dark like cast with accuracy makes sense now that they roam around... I'm going to dull down that ballista lure just so it's just got a slight glow it is an after dark one but it's still real bright yep it'll happen I'm using the right gear at the right time thinking of going for a late night trip tonight maybe.... In your night time sessions has moonlight ever been a factor I know flathead love moonlit silhouetted lures... Just need to cover more ground I think keep moving around... Ummm I think I'm addicted ?

  4. No luck guys at all no hits I think because Im limited to spots I'm going to get a 8 foot poly boat and set it up with my watersnake so I can cruise around and go from spot to spot systematically but probably an early morning thing... One good thing was something came up over the other side of the river it did twice sounded like a bomb went off massive fish but only metres outa reach, I tell ya rick that rats awesome I reckon I'm going to get a big fish off that one day.. Might wait a couple of days and try a different spot keep yas posted

  5. Hi guys just  putting up a pic of my new cod lures been trying hard to get one off the surface and thinking maybe it might be time to get serious and it might be just coming down to inferior lures and have a proper go... The ballista hunchback and rat being my confidence lures ya just never know hey.. So I'm heading down to my spot tonight at 730 .. and go till I can't see any more and then some report to come if I get lucky

    Cheers

  6. That's the go more space the better could always separate the tank in half with fly screen or something so you can run it all off 1 bilge pump... I'm about to make one myself  for my freedom sport... Love making live bait tanks

I believe anyone can learn how to do anything if they're willing to put in the effort.I learnt how to make the net about an hour before I posted. Before then I wouldn't have a clue how to make one.

It is becoming a lost art just like manually sharpening tools/knives by hand and a million other things.

Thats just it.... Gotta have a go a

Good on you Coopa, that's a nice sized Cod. Well done Omally for taking them out with you. They'll either get the "bug" and turn into keen anglers or just be kids who have lots of other interests. Either way, you'll be proud of them. bn

Thats it Neil, either way is fine... Cheers mate

The LEGAL size limits are 55 -75 cms and 2 fish per angler per day. However, if you want to do the RIGHT thing don't take any above 65cms. Firstly they taste terrible because of all the fat they carry and secondly they are better breeders.

FOR GENERAL INFORMATION. Murray Cod become sexually mature at about 55cms and 5 years old. As they get bigger and breed more regularly, they get better at reproducing (both males and females). Therefore it makes much more sense to take fish of 55 -65 rather than ones approaching 75 cms and certainly not over that size.

As Frank points out Yellas (30 cms) are a much better tasting fish. He also makes a good point about surface lures in low light periods. If you can find a backwater with a couple of snags in it (usually on the inside bend of the river), approach it quietly and cast a surface lure upstream. Take your time retrieving it, with lots of pauses, and you may get a bigger fish than with bait. Once again it's about putting the time in if you want the results. bn

Yep definitely agree I'm gearing up already for this arvo .. Can't wait taken the boys down to hopefully keep em quiet for 10 minutes so they can get there first cod to... And yeah I didn't think fish could get fat lol but I can see some of the big fish that can't be all muscle lol... Cheers guys
