  1. Great touch up, love it😎😆
  2. Headed out this morning off broken bay and tried a drift on reef and gravel without much happening except a couple of small Nannygai at the end of the drift so headed out for some flatties which were slow but managed to bag out with a lot of spikies in between on the way back in I thought I spotted a shark fin in the distance and on closer inspection found this guy dosing he must’ve been tired 💤 as he didn’t even flinch when I drove past except for lifting his head above water to breath a couple of times
  3. Great report those solo sessions are good to clear the head and relaxing but can be tiring,I headed outside today & found same conditions as you dead on the reefs, seas bigger than forecast & flatties were slow but managed to bag out with lots of little spikies in between, be curious to hear how the dolly tastes I’ve never smoked one
  4. Bom gov au has a good 7day wind forecast for the whole of NSW which I find pretty accurate in 3 hour increments with wind direction and strength “marine wind forecast “ & if you hit the small square it gives you a 3 day forecast for broken bay to Botany Bay, very helpful for smaller boats heading offshore or to the shelf
  5. I was fishing with my dog one night years ago when my handline went off grabbed the line ready to strike noticed the line going over my shoulder turned around and yelled at the dog before he got up the embankment, gingerly pulled but the 2/0 & half Pilly weren’t budging so I cut the line. He ended up living to a ripe old age & the hook never gave him any drama🥺👍🙂
  6. Another free one that goes well with fishtrack is oceancurrent.imos.gov.au go to sea surface map and click on square that is relevant, the smaller square near Sydney is best one for the area from seal rocks to about Nowra, the map also does the whole of Australia, good for anyone doing a road trip
  7. Under water light can help in those conditions, tide & southerly a big +
  8. I’ll have to give that a go, need to get some wasabi & soy sauce for the boat and try some. They also go well in the smoker or in foil on the bbq
  9. About 3 weeks ago We headed north east from long reef and came across 5 sets of traps and chucked some livies around managed 1 legal dolly amongst some under sized ones, saw a good sized stripe tailing past within range, one of the boys tossed a livie at the marlin but no luck would’ve been fun to see how he was going to handle it on a 30lb spin outfit
  10. I reckon after the first lesson you’d need more than a first aid kit😀, same thing happened to my brother with one of our cats, we had two from the same litter and being so young back then he never knew until it was to late😀
  11. Great report @Ryder and a good size & bag, they don’t look like they’ve been in the system for long, not your typical bronzes. That GRRR!!!! Sounded like it was aimed at the cat😄
  12. With those water temps you should go for a prawn dip around sumo & Gwandalin & maybe pick up a muddy or bluey and have a seafood buffet
  13. Didn’t make it Friday afternoon wind & rain put me off, got these this morning off the rocksbetween some big sets more like 5ft than the forecast of 3ft, dinner is sorted
  14. Good session on the squid there guys. I was hoping to have a crack at them this arvo , that Yamashita is one of my favourites
  15. Great photos & some good flatties, like the squid shots they look a bit camera shy
  16. Hi @ fragmiester, I’ve caught arrow squid as far west as at the front of cabaritta marina and the channel around putney in a boat, and read & heard of green eyes been caught off the bank between the marina & the boat ramp up that way, I’ve also caught calamari around the mouth of Lanecove river, stands to reason if the food (prawns & baitfish)is around they can’t be to far away, good luck on finding new locations
  17. Went out last Monday in similar conditions, water temp went from 22.7 to 24.8 trolled & threw livies from manly to long reef wide fads ran Current lines, birds & bait, south of Sydney came across about 5 sets of lobster buoys got one legal dolly, saw a good stripy tailing worked the area over with 5” to 12inch lures got a couple of micro Dolly’s that couldn’t even trip the rigger, like you got as far as botany fad & back to Sydney heads for zilch, heard of a couple of blacks hooked in 35 to 60 meters, came across some good bait balls at the heads in 35 meters , might be worthwhile staying in close next time & working over the bait balls
  18. Great photos & good write up sounds like your mojo was high jacked by the lack of sleep, headlights & the bump to the head, keep getting out there & you’ll be getting amongst the fish before you know
  19. Good on you for persisting & finding the problem, fish raiders are very helpful, try @ raging’s suggested site, google the part or maybe outboard wreckers. Good luck
  20. Great report & account of converting a total newbie, well done
  21. If you fillet them and take out the lateral line, no bones. Most red to orange fish are yummy
  22. Good guess we got the Nannygai in 30m over hard bottom, I think you can get them to 200m from memory where as Alfonsino are caught 200m+ to the shelf and some
  23. They are actually a very nice tasting sweet fish, they leave a yowie fish (Morwong) for dead, small fillets for size of fish big ones are a better yield, they also are gun Livies for yellowfin ,they stand out like a bright neon light in the deep blue
  24. I have the exact same brand and model and have used it for over 7 or 8 years know from casting and catching trout to 21/2kg and casting for hours on end using size 2.5 to 3 jigs for calamari and even managed to lift a couple of 40cm hood length up off the ocean rocks carefully & never had the ferrule (2 piece) come loose or twist, mine is the same as in your pic. I think tinkicka is spot on,& with the male end slipping in 50+mm it is a good solid joint
  25. Headed out yesterday morning out of Brissie waters knowing the sea and weather was going to be great. Stopped at half tide rocks on the last of the run out tide and showed him how to use a soft plastic, had two quick drifts before the tide stopped, I managed one flattie at 50cm no joy for him. Next off to the bait grounds for a tank full of slimies & a few yakkas he had a ball on the handline, then headed for the flathead grounds, 300m into our run fish where busting up so out came the 2 to 4kg stick with a metal on it, he managed 6 legal tailor. 8am by this stage and a big smile on his dial we headed out, on the way we came across a pod of dolphins & quite a few schools of yakkas & slimies feeding, this is great was his comment 🙂,managed to bag out on the flatties, moved around a bit to avoid the little ones while fog rolled in about 11am and stayed around for the rest of the day. We moved in to about 30ms where he got a mixed bag.We headed in about 3pma pic of his fish, he couldn’t thank me enough for his best fishing day ever. “Happy days”
