  1. Hi Frank I do a bit of squid fishing land based off the rocks & have noticed that they seem to bite better during the day on the lead up to and around the new moon, whereas around the full moon period at dusk & into the night & in both situations on a rising tide low up or the last few hours before the top of the tide, around the full moon like you I get the odd one here and there after a lot of casts during the day, could be to do with getting a good feed on the lit nights, I don’t profess to be an expert as I still occasionally get donuts, I hope this helps & happy fishing
  2. What a great report and top video, what an awesome way to christen the new outfit on a ball breaker of a fish 😎 how did you go about preparing the tuna & how did it taste, congrats and well worth the trip
  3. Great read & perseverance, congrats on your new PB, and not letting copeton get the better of you, good luck with the the big one
  4. Great read and a couple of good bream in your session, getting out on the water before dawn & watching the sun rise & a great way to start the day, you guys will be up scaling your PB’s in no time with dedication like that
  5. That’s a beast of a long tail there scratchie well done, that must’ve been one hell of a good fight did you guys end up chasing it down or did you slug it out, I believe there first run is a screamer, that’s one on my bucket list, what gear we’re you using if you don’t mind me asking & did you get a weight & length. Congrats again
  6. A Bear Grils trick I once saw, is keep one eye closed while using the light source & after switching off the light open the eye that way ones good & the other eye soon adjusts
  7. When I traveled around Oz in 89 I hooked up a flood light on the back of the roof rack on the 4b via separate switch, very handy for reversing in tight places in the pitch black also found it useful when a car coming up from behind had there high beams on, a quick flick of the switch & they soon sorted there high beam. Might work similar at the ramp with the headlights
  8. next time you’ve got someone with cabin fever onboard get an old record (vynl) attach it via hole to an overhead & feed it out with the ratchet off then flick on the ratchet & get them to wind it in, puts up a good fight & congratulate them on there record fish, usually gets rid of the seasick blues
  9. Great feed & report, the conditions look awesome & nothing better than heading all that way & finding a near vacant fad with dollies ready to party
  10. Great report & a good feed for a quick session on the water, how did you keep the livies going all night
  11. Good report & photos, nothing better than having a reel going off, nice Mack tuna & congrats on the PB snapper, looks like one scratchies pets 😀 shame there weren’t more around, what was the length
  12. Keep tabs on your radio for the sked reports I’m pretty sure there’s a tournament on this weekend, last week or about they got some big yellowfin & blues S.E of browns Good luck
  13. Another great report, good to here that the salted tailor fillets worked we’ll, bummer about your favourite pakula lure & the 2 good fish lost, you mentioned the go pro what about the centre rail on hard top between mid rail & rod holder rail & having a pivoting arm that can be locked into various positions
  14. Sounds like you had a great day out with a good mixed bag and everything went well, sometimes not having the phone onboard can make for blissful day
  15. Wow a big school of tailor out in 50m, I wonder what they were feeding on, must’ve been cooler water down deep, great mixed bag & report , good to see you’re sinker jigs is working well
  16. Sounds like you guys had cracker of a day up in paradise, great photos especially the one of your PB on the quiet side of the reef, I’ve yet to snare a red on a plastics, I’d be there with bells on if the opportunity ever arose, that was pretty decent of Woodsy to hand his fish on to you, great report
  17. As I mentioned it was only slight, I still felt it a couple of hours later even after washing my hands with soap once home
  18. They look like a couple of well conditioned rainbows, you could try getting some paravanes or deep diving lures to get where the fish are holding,30 to 50m back is good for tassies, & good on you for getting a fish raider as your new fishing buddy
  19. Thanks for that, did you add bait to the hooks or were they taking the jigs as is
  20. Be curious to hear how anyone went with there GPS combo units today as I have the HDS 7 unit & if it’s only the time issue or other glitches surfaced. Cheers
  21. Great photos & read, and 2 sessions with the whole family getting involved, I’ve had the same problem with my 2 girls having to leave a hot bite on more than one occasion to go swimming, I haven’t caught Pilchards before and was wondering what brand and size jig do you use to catch them?
  22. I’d be waiting till the last minute before deciding whether or not to take the boat, the forecast will be a lot more reliable closer to your trip, even a couple of good days fishing is better than regretting you had the boat with you
  23. Good report of your day & nice feed of jackets, shame about the hooks pulling on the good one
  24. I heard the same, one boat went 3:3:1 on beakies & there are some good sized yellowfin about
  25. Funny you should mention that, I was cleaning some freshly caught squid today (all dead) & as I grabbed its head with one finger near its tenticals I felt a pinch it’s beak had latched on, I instinctively flicked it off, no blood but had an indentation, while cleaning the rest of them the mucus gave a slight stinging sensation and persisted even after several rinses in salt water. I’ve also had a dead tailor thrash around after taking one fillet off
