  1. Having a live map location similar to snapchat/find my friends maps but only when people are online would be pretty rad, and maybe a live feed section like "hey heading down to blabla Lake for a carp fish whos keen", like a popup notification for anyone within an area of say 15klms of the person who sent the popup, then more raider members could meet and interact, limiting it to a klm radius will keep popups minimum, just some ideas, could even add in rain forecast or swell aswell.. i know for a fact that if someone was close and wanted someone to keep them company for a flick locally or within a radius id jump in and go meet and greet and have a flick.
  2. Honestly it depends on how much and often you are going to go beach fishing, think about how often you are going to use it, what the use for? just for beach fishing or for rocks etc aswell, I have several beach rods ranging from a $30 kmart combo 12ft beach rod upto $$$ beach rod, and honestly i use my jarvis walker and the kmart beach combo more than the expensive ones, especially if im going around sydney during the week, if im going away camping and pristine beaches say stockton, ill take several rods. Id be looking at a cheapish but sturdy rod paired with a decent 4000/4500 size reel, i use this Jarvis Jarvis Tuff Tip 3.20m and pretty cheap at the $40 mark from dinga, and change reels between it depending on what Im going for. Definately try and get a 4000 size and pair it with that jarvis, rovex aren't too bad i have never had an issue with the smaller sized reels, My mate had an issue with his larger rovex. i found with the rovexs you really need to give them a good service after every little beach adventure, most likely neglect of the reel after a beach fish but still. Depending on your budget is what it comes down to, if your on a tight budget go for a shimano sienna fe 4000, i have 3 of these in the 2500 size and one in a 4000 and couldn't be happier, normally around the $45 mark from various stores. Or a Penn Spinfisher ($149), (i use this with my $40 dinga jarvis) >>Penn Spinfisher 4500 ssvi, has a nice tick to it when something grabs the bait, havent had any issues with it, just wash it with fresh water and thats it. Good Luck.
  3. Your closest store off the top of my head will be doug burts, pretty sure owned by t/w now but he repairs rods and reels, and services, got a reel serviced by him years ago on the drive through to brissy. luckily didn't need much work or parts. you will probably get pretty lucky in that if the reel needs any parts (bearings/shim) being a shimano he should have in stock if its common or may just need a decent service
  4. arent they those stick on fish people put on there cars??? LOL
  5. Maybe not within a 45min drive from Narellan vale, maybe closer to an hour out of your way(Penrith/Cranebrook). I have plenty of spots from yarramundi bridge all the way upto near warragamba, but in terms of good landbased spot around nepean way and safe for your kids, there is few. I have taken my kids to a couple of these safer spots and had luck. Werrington Lakes, along with woodcroft, although these locations are around the hour mark from narellan vale they both have jettys, full of carp and are quite kid friendly, no bush bashing, just grass and jettys, haven't fished out Narellan in a while but i know of some spots, PM me and i should be able to make you up a map. also a good spot under a bridge near Liverpool Hospital way and also at the back of it, on the georges, caught some flathead here.
  6. Looks like a golden trout to me, classified more of a rainbow trout than a brown, have caught rainbow and brown in the Gilmore that flows into tumut river, nice catch on lure, i have only ever caught trout on grasshoppers in the snowy region.
  7. If you can catch grasshoppers the day before, they make a killer bait for trout in the snowy systems. To catch them go on dusk and look for them in the dandelions/long grass (watch for snakes), they get real drowsy and sleepy, you can just grab them in your hand, get a empty peanut butter or vegemite jar with holes in the top and get as many as you can. Did this several years ago with my Uncle, dad and Pa and went up through the Gilmore, (Gilmore creek runs between the back of Batlow and Leads into the Tumut river, Near Gocup Rd is not a bad little spot times change in 10yrs though) caught several rainbow and brown trout, also an old heshan fishing bag around your shins/knees in the water keeps the trout fresh and tasty, i recommend waders as the water is bloody cold, used fairly light gear about a 2-4kg rod with light line, no sinker, casting down the river as the fish were coming up it. Good Luck
  8. similiar thing happened to my mates boat years ago, similar setup in terms of welded to the hull, we ground down the original with grinder, taped up all around it so no burn marks to the paint, and fitted a bolt up one, still on the boat now.
  9. @bratzfishtank Have you considered Fishraider's "Adopt a learner"? Adopt a learner Maybe an old dog or whipper snapper could come out with you and show you some local spots to Sydney, sometimes even just physically looking at peoples different setups and tackle boxes can help, also the land-based map i mentioned earlier is a great start for some Sydney spots. I'm sure more than one person will be keen to show a thing or two, you may or may not know it but every little bit of info helps. I have learnt a lot over the years from back when there where 10 odd fishing forums just nsw based days to now on Fishraider, lots of reading and research and videos of different knots and methods. I been fishing since i got my first rod at age 7, and i'm still learning things. i may be a young snapper but always keen to learn new things about fishing. Regards Squ!rt
  10. I'd Suggest using the search function in future, post from 2011>>
  11. Jeez where do we start?? Flathead - from my experience of fishing around Sydney and up and down the coast, i have caught Flathead at Berowra and apple tree bay on corn, soft plastics while jigging, and peeled prawn under the hawkesbury river bridge (F3) Tailor - always swim in schools and i have always tend to have more luck at night on tailor than during the day, they like shiny things, under Swansea bridge around the 11pm-1am mark a silver wobbler was a hit, brought in 20 odd in one 40 min sesh, cast under third pylon, and when you see a lot of birds near church point cast a wobbler or silver solid lure. Snapper & Bream - always managed to get decent size bream and snapper near church point on a peeled prawn, snap the head off chuck it in and peal the shell off the prawn, seems to look more realistic floating along in the current. Same goes for snapper, although have never bagged a decent one. A known secret for bait is chicken with Parmesan cheese, goes good at churchy and the hawkesbury. Only ever Caught Aus Salmon, beach fishing, learn to read a beach, look for the gully, squid pilchard or prawn, have caught on all three baits, find the gully, not a hug sinker but enough that it still moves in the current but doesn't take your line half way down the beach, south coast Waro Beach i have had some luck along with Blacksmiths beach up central coast as well as the Entrance. Whiting, there is a post here in fishing chat posted about an hour ago with a good location for whiting, usually before dusk near the wharf on north entrance side. That's just my cents worth and a handful of spots, if you want more in depth info of locations for lake Mac way refer here>> Lake Mac Landbased Any other info feel free to pm me, i regularly go during the week to different fresh and saltwater spots around syd and up home at lake mac on weekends. Regards Squ!rt
  12. Really good little spot there, if you are going landbased go to the left of the jetty, jetty is always packed with every man and his dog, if you dont have a boat chuck in a yak, get there halfa before dusk, be warned though, the jetty near there is very crowded especially now being school holidays and easter weekend is ridiculously busy around the entrance. The wharf/jetty oposite the island is probably one of the most common places during the holidays, plenty of tarwhine around, great for kids if you can beat the crowds. You ca,n also try further up at the north entrance boat ramp end of the island, terilbah reserve is the location pretty sure and also good spot to put kayak in might bump into you as im up that way for easter.
  13. Just a quick update while i had a spare 5 mins at work, have been to a lot more location throughout the lake recently in the last 6 or so months, also starting to finally explore the wangi wangi side of things, will be adding some more later today and this week. This Map will always be Landbased! Public map updated aswell>> Fishin' Land Based Lake Mac Map
  14. Murrays Beach Parking is close Close to a Cafe so food available Always seems pretty quiet(people) Kid Friendly (playground) Good walking and decent Jetty Bread and butter fish Have heard some stories from some old blokes that have fished here before the Murrays Beach estate was built, heard some big squid and monster flatty stories, have only ever caught bream here lately. Swansea RSL Parking is close Close to the RSL so if no fish can go for a feed Good at night, less busy Different opportunity as on the other side of channel Big fish run in and out of the channel Not Sheltered from Wind Kid Safe, Jetty quite secure, safer than the otherside.
  15. The Flats(sand bars in the channel) Not good at night (bit sketchy) Entrance from the ocean to the lake Slightly sheltered from wind Heaps of different Species caught here, really good for flatheads, bream Not Kid Friendly (very rocky and have to cross main road + bush bash) >>> Park same location as Swansea Bridge and cross road, refer image on rough map>> Blue is Rough walking track, including crossing road and parking etc, Red shows where you can get onto the sand bar at low tide, you will often see many boats here on a low tide and on the weekends they beach there boats on the bars.
  16. Sounds like an awesome trip, from mustling jewies and shovel nose to wrestling a goanna in a takedown of who can handle the bacon. Im surprised you didn't have any roos playing who can pinch a shrimp off the barby, Any pics Longy?? i gotta get back up there,
  17. Hey mate, i regularly fish Berowra and Apple Tree Bay (not that far away from Berowra) your best best for Berowra Waters is different combinations of bait not just normal prawns, when we go out we use a lot of different bait and have caught decent flatties, bream and all you other bread and butter fish along with eels, catfish and the occasional football (puffer). ok lets talk bait options (all these have worked for me and my mates): Prawns Chicken Breast coated in Parmi Bread Corn Below i have attached a pin point for Berowra, fish on the curve facing the bank on the otherside, cast out in between the boats and the bank (on high tide), when tide is low flick up the back towards the carpark, have seen some decent flatties in there. when tide is really low you can actually walk across to the bank on the otherside, there are stairs. Also this place has BBQ's that can be turned on, good for putting some snags on while you catch some fish and sink some tinnies.
  18. I was up here not long ago, the kids the mrs and me Stayed a bit back at Bombah Point, at Korsmans Landing Camp ground. fishing wasn't fantastic but there is a boat ramp at korsmans landing. Road coming from Bulladelah, 60/40 is blacktop / gravel and dirt. but pretty smooth. I drove my lowered standard family wagon, no issues, like i said pretty smooth. Fishing wise, didn't catch much from the landing ground, one or two tiddlers and that was it, further down Myall Lakes and on the otherside of the ferry is a good little spot close to the actual Mungo Brush Campground site itself. Sand Point its called, again nothing major to brag about in terms of size but caught a couple of different species on light gear, who knows you might even get a crab.. Otherwise id recommend taking your beach rod, the fishing in Myall Lakes is not fantastic but i was only land based. Much better option is go for a small drive, leave the tent, lock it up and go for a day trip up towards forster, plenty of good spots there.
  19. Hey all, haven’t had a chance to have a flick up at home this week at Lake Mac so me and a mate decided to go to our local Lake and chase these mighty mud marlin that I have been seeing plenty of reports on social media. We met up after work at mine got our gear and decided to head down the road. Started out a bit slow with a couple of nibbles and nothing much on the bite, bugger we thought been hearing heaps of reports on this lake so we decided to move locations just to the right of the jetty. It looked like a little bit of a gully in between the reeds. Started berlying them up with one solid piece of bread and several small balls of bread 🍞. We were trying to get the Carp to rise to the surface, and by jingos by crikeys damn it worked well. My first carp had a massive fight and then bam it was off, spewin. Re-berlyed up the water and tried to keep the damn ducks away which works if you throw a rock or two and make a splash just before them, the seem to scatter which is good. My first landed was pretty decent nothing massive but around the 40cm mark, this was in the afternoon around 6pm just on dusk but still plenty of light due to daylight savings, good catch and a decent fight, i was ecstatic with landing this, my first fish on my new setup I got for Xmas. (Sahara X with 2500 sienna) Couple of hours went by we got a couple of nibbles but nothing solid. It got close to 8:30 the sun had just gone down, still light but was time for mozzie repellent and head torches. Bit more of berly and my it was my Brothers turn his reel zoomed off with the drag I thought sweet he is on. Reels it in after giving a semi decent and very weird fight, the fight was interesting very fast then slow then fast,he pulled in a Koi Carp, good looking fish and was good fun for him. Now I was on the prowl to outdo him as us brothers/mates do, and it happened, bit more Berly out literally 15mins after he caught his Koi I struck a beauty, 52cm carp, good solid fight and great fun, it was now solidly dark and we were both thinking of packing up and going to get a feed for dinner (handy with a maccas round the corner) then boom he was on again, this time a carp around the 35-40cm mark so a decent little guy. Ok so now it’s 2-2 we were happy with our avo/night fish and it was great fun, finally started packing up the chairs and our tackle bags and were ready for dinner, both our stomachs were grumbling, had everything packed but our rods still in the water with drag on as you do....just as we packed up our stuff my line went off again, not a big zoom of the reel but I wasn’t going to not bring it in, ended up being small at the 30cm mark. Well that’s all folks, here’s the piccys of our Mighty Mud Marlin... Will definitely be going back here for some arvo Carp fights, the reports aren’t wrong this place has the been going off, some 🍞 and small and light 🎣 plenty of fun

    Rod stand

Looks the goods, love the artwork of the fish.
  21. Due to being part Nudist Beach, might be good for crabs??
  22. Keep travelling up further, blacksmiths, redhead etc, just past swansea, you will need a beach permit, can get one here >> Beach Permits edit* you can drive on these beaches, aswell as stockton if you want to go further.
  23. Good spot for Land Based fishing and normally catch a couple of tiddlers, such as Bream, Tarwhine and the occasional Snapper or Flathead. The Jetty that Koalaboi mentioned is the go, bbq area, kids playground, and a decent jettty for kids. >> The Entrance Playground also alternatively if you want to travel a little further up the road with a lot more land based locations, hit up Lake Macquarie>>> my write up and stomping ground on Lake Mac: Land Based Lake Mac also is a google custom map too. Any other places you wish to try round the entrance and upwards that are kid safe feel free to pm me, i have a 5yr old son and almost 2 yr old daughter, that always come fishing with me up and down the coas regularly, so i know what its like fishing with kids. Regards Squ!rt
