  1. I'm a dragons and sharkies supporter so it doesn't really bother to me, both of the cocks and storm knocked out my two teams, would like to see the cocks win it, i dont think billy the kid should be playing. If you look at his history he gets away with a lot of things in front of the judiciary, which joe bloe would be banned for several weeks. but guess it will be his last game and he is pretty taken car of being how wealthy he is, after all he is 35 years old, time for retirement, what a life wish i could have million dollar bank accounts and retire at 35 odd.
  2. That's a decent flathead, i do the same, i normally only ever keep flathead around the 40cm size, last big stonker my mate caught we let here go, (over 65cm at church point) I teach my kids the same, although my boy is adamant to keep all the 'fishies', better for them to swim on and become a giant monster and reproduce.
  3. They go pretty damn nice, My mate showed me a sort of asian way of cooking them, mix lemon, hoi sin sauce, chilli sauce, sliced chilli and soy all in a bowl/plate, cover the wings in it, then chuck them in vege oil on the pan, the flavour is amazing, makes them taste like a chicken wing. the hoi sin and soy sauce makes it almost like a terriyaki flavour with the little kick of chilli. tastes dam good, Also i recommend using the pre-made fish batter or the salt & pepper mix, comes in a yellow packet at coles.
  4. Have added a couple more spots, have also created a custom google map that is public which will make it easier for everyone to open on there phones in maps etc.: Lake Mac Landbased Map Regards Squ!r+
  5. All Good mate, on the "horseshoe" on the left there is a platform that water taxis come and go and you can fish from there, you cant fish from the 'horshoe', pic for reference>> we were using prawn and chicken thigh with parmeson, got a couple of tailor and other various yakka etc. Cast out straight towards all the moored boats, to the left its very seaweedy, i'd recommend the setup of sinker at the bottom and about a foot or so above the sinker run your hook. snell setup.. Location is marked near "Sydney Luxury Charters" Regards, Squ!r+
  6. It would be a good idea to know where this is as some raiders may have fished there before, when trying out a new location, i treat the location as a beach, regardless of how many gullies and rips in a beach certain fish can be in all of them. I would start at A and work your way to D or visa-versa according to tide, wind swell etc. also staying in one spot casting on different angles would be advised, and with moving up and down the river/stream casting on different angles it opens up a far greater spread of casting opportunity. Think of being able to cast at every location on a 90 degree angle, meaning the changing of either ABC or D, they will overlap, also is this only going to be landbased? can you get to the other side, go on a bit of an exploration, you might even find a little inlet further up that brings a bigger and better chance. Dont limit yourself to just these spots, bush bashing almost always pays off, a lot of anglers will or won't bush bash especially if its an open section like this. Regards, Squ!r+
  7. yeh man, in this warmer weather you will see them, normally a "winter fish" but i seem to always catch them when its a bit warmer. You will start seeing a lot more of them in the next couple of weeks/months, it was around this time last year i started to see some in the channel, dont know if they were confused but i find you can catch them almost all year round. Best bet is obviously the surf, but i have caught them and seen them caught Swansea Breakwall/Reids reserve, or near blacksmiths point side, due to entry to the lake, along with under the bridge, check out my post about fishin lake mac landbased and the first place on the post will show you. Regards, Squ!r+
  8. I would be coming up a bit further my way, Catho and swansea, i have started to see a couple coming through swansea channel, in the next coming weeks it will be mayhem
  9. Plenty of places around Sydney that should be living up with plenty of action that are land based, im based in the west too not far from parra, i regularly fish at night and the odd weekend i'm down here in syd instead of up the coast on lake mac. Here are a couple of places to fish around Sydney landbased (salt water) : Pier 2, Lavender Bay, Banjo Paterson Reserve, Spit Bridge, Clifton Gardens, Balmoral Beach. Plenty of places within 15 or so minutes of each other, just check the swell, tide and wind, Went to Clifton Gardens last weekend with a mate and could hardly get out due to to the wind was blowing like a cyclone, went around to balmoral beach, no wind and plenty of action. If you want to drive further up the coast and start chasing some aussie salmon, try up around lake macquarie/redhead/catho, have seen and heard a couple of reports on the salmon is coming already. Or Alternatively if you want to drive up as far as Lake Macquarie, i have put a location guide up here for all of land based spots in Lake Macquarie>>> Lake Mac Land Based Regards, Squ!r+
  10. mmmm, pilchard to add the extra salty taste instead of sugar aye?
  11. Tailor is nice smoked, just bleed it and chuck some lemon up its guts with a bit of herbs, simple but goes pretty good on tailor, but more importantly how does the coffee taste??
  12. you guys aren't wrong, pissing down and very cloudy on Saturday up at lake mac, but yesterday was perfect, no wind, no white tops, just perfectly still, undisturbed. I wish the weather would make up its mind.
  13. Palm Beach you will get a couple down the far end near the sea pool, use some heavy gear 40-60lb, i have heard from the wise to use eel as bait, so next time you catch an eel cut it up and keep in freezer till your gonna go on a beach shark hunt, as Jon said, they will go for most jewy baits.
  14. Nice one Scratchie, happy fathers day mate, weather was pretty crappy up the coast this weekend, I didnt get a chance to have a flick, bad luck about the dolphins showing up, so ill leave you with a quote for them "Dolphins. They think they're so cute. Oh, look at me, I'm a flippy little dolphin, let me flip for you.
  15. Fishin' Lake Mac Hey mate I'm a local to the area of lake mac, click the link above ^^^ i have done a write up of where I fish in lake mac and locations, in regards to bait you can't go wrong with prawns or chicken and parmy, pilchard goes alright too, if you are Belmont side of Swansea bridge, near Naru is a Fishermans warehouse they have fresh bait and always give some decent info on what is biting in the lake, if you are going by boat there are a couple of boat ramps just depends on where you are staying, if not heaps of land based spots i have listed in that pinned post. feel free to gimme a pm if you want more in depth info and can point you in the right direction according to where you are staying in the lake, I'm a local so might see you at a spot. Also if your mean with a flick of a lure Swansea bridge on outgoing tide is pretty good for tailor and sometimes jewys Regards, Squ!rt
  16. Berkley Gulp alive attractant works pretty well, i wouldn't use oyster or fish sauce, definitely some sort of fish oil made for it.
  17. Gotta back up steve on this one, you want something at a minimum of 12ft, 14ft/15ft perfect, keeps you decent distance away from the edge especially for rock fishing
  18. No problems Donna, will update more as i go, still yet to explore more on the Wangi Wangi side of lake mac, mainly stick close to Swansea/belmont side as it has proven good and is consistant, but the other side may change my mind
  19. Belmont Jetty Parking is close Walking distance of shops (coles/woolies/cafe's) Can be a little bit quiet during the day due to traffic (drop off/on point) Have had decent amount of success at night, some decent flatties around there Not Sheltered Belmont 16's jetty Right across the road from mine Kid Safe (as much as a jetty can be) Surprisingly quiet during the day (weekdays) Is at a yacht club, so Saturday and Sunday mornings can be off limits due to all the small sailboats Have had decent luck, no stonkers yet but for this end of the lake decent amount of bream, keeps the kids happy If no fish are biting, chuck the gear in the car and head into the 16s Boatshed (12 or so ontap craft beers) Not Sheltered (if its windy go to the boatshed) Black Jacks Point Great spot for bream Close to parking, Public toilets Good section of grass for kids to run around (even a rope swing) Not very protected if its windy, seem to cast against it Thats it fishos, hope to see you out and about. Regards Squ!rt
  20. UPDATED : Link to Google Map>> Landbased Map Lake Mac Hey Fisho's So I thought i would put together my top land based spots to fish on Lake Macquarie, I live on Lake Mac at Belmont and regularly fish the lake in lots of different locations. Some of these spots are kid friendly and others i wouldn't recommend (close to rocks etc). All of these locations are within range of parking, no major bush walks or hikes to get there most of them are within 50 meters or under within the car, I will include a google map location of each point where i fish and whether it is sheltered or open (wind), most of these spots are great on turn of both tidea and some are good during the whole day and night. These Spots Listed are in no particular order of best or not, just all the spots that are in driving and walking distance of tackle shops/shops/toilets/food etc. These Spots do not have a guarantee in catching fish but i personally have caught fish at all of these locations in different weather conditions, best to check weather and tide reports as usual. In Regards to what i consider "Kid Friendly" I mean safe enough for my 5 year old to run around and not get injured and access for my 3 year old girl in her pram etc. Swansea Breakwall/Reids Reserve Great spot man made break wall concrete path Fish facing back towards swansea bridge Semi sheltered (break wall breaks most of wind) Semi Kid Friendly - Rock Fishing/Concrete Path, but there is a playground next to carpark Swansea Bridge (Lake Entrance Side) Can almost fish from your car Great at night (light from bridge) Entrance from the ocean to the lake Not sheltered from wind Heaps of different Species caught here, from seeing sharks to jews and kings. Not Kid Friendly (very rocky) Pelican Foreshore Fantastic for Kids Great Parking/Toilets/PLayground Semi Sheltered from wind Two great little inlets that are about waist height water, (kids love it) Perfect in Summer, Fishing is slow but perfect spot for first timers (kids) Down the road from local tackleshop (fishermans warehouse) get your fresh bait from there and have a yarn. Coony/Coon island/Swansea Holiday Park Parking simple and easy Kid friendly, can have a swim as water is only waist deep Always seems to be fairly sheltered from wind (mainly due to being on the other side of channel) 2 minute drive from Swansea shops (bait, fish and chips for kids etc.) Nice drop off on rock point, Bream/Flatty/Tailor/Kingys Swansea Channel/Channel St Good spot to try or come back to before/after Coony As its the channel on Lake side, check tides, always seems to be better before a runnout IMO Not Sheltered, can be good though, get longer casts. Semi Kid Safe, Concrete walkway(watch for bikes) grassy area and picnic tables literally 30 second drive from Swansea shops Naru Beach/Boat Ramp Great little spot, fantastic for the kids and good Bream This spot there is two locations, i fish on the beach/rocks near the inlet into Swan Bay more than the boat ramp side, upto you, caught fish from both spots Boat Ramp to chuck your boat in Sheltered to an extent on beach point/side Two carparks, if the one closest to the beach point (on Bend) is full 5 seconds further up near boat ramp is plenty of parking even on weekends. Make sure to drop in to Fishermans warehouse for latest Lake info, only up the road too (fresh bait) Just be cautious of the road, it is a dirt road (Naru St) after a big rain it can be a bit slidey, standard car no issues, wouldn't recommend taking a Merc down there. >>>
  21. yeh oath, i only live across the road so will be back out there next weekend
  22. Morning Fishos, Weather started as pretty crappy this weekend gone unfortunately, was really hoping to get a good beach fish or rock fish in with the kids and Mrs, wind and rain made this unable to do. Made the weekend a bit of a stay in lazy day sort of weekend, was really hoping to go for a little drive and go down towards Blacksmiths, Naru or Swansea bridge. Luckily I got a break on sunday at around 5:00pm the sun was almost set into the clouds, very overcast conditions every time it seemed to have a nice patch of blue sky and and sun throughout both days it seemed to start to sprinkle then completely piss down, put a bit of a burden on the possibility of fishing for the weekend. While the kids were having an afternoon nap and i think the Mrs was about to, decided to head across the road for a sneaky fish before having to get dinner ready, (secretly hoping to have fresh fish for dinner from Lake Mac)I grabbed the bait out of the freezer, gave it a quick wash and defrost and headed over the road to the little wharf next to the yacht club. I am glad i decided to go can i tell you, bit of squid and chicken breast for bait, and it was bending rod galore. The sun had just gone down so was pretty much black from the cloud cover, light sprinkle but didn't last long, was thrilled within the first 10 mins i was hooked, couldn't believe it i never have this luck, could tell it wasn't big but didn't bother me i was more thrilled that i could actually get a break to wet a line without getting soaked myself. First hookup was an absolute tiddler but gave a decent fight (must of kept swimming down) had the drag on fairly loose had a good fight, small little bream, measured 16cm, Then the water went a bit quiet for the next 20 or so mins, no bites not more tiddlers, i thought hmmm, that's a bit weird, normally when i start to catch one or two tiddlers i normally keep getting several or something decent, pulled my line in to check if bait was still there, and to my surprise it was? chucked on some squid just in case they had gone off the chicken, (some fish are picky i reckon) and still nothing?? hmm started scratching my head thinking is it really possible for one tiddler and then nothing at this time, i know it rained but geez shouldn't be this bad. Started to reel in slowly and give the rod a bit of a tug, was getting caught in some weeds so tightened up the drag. got to the surface and the squid was gone, figured it had just got stuck in the weeds. Couple more casts and re-baiting went by, it was getting close to the 7:30pm mark and i knew the kids and Mrs would be awake by now surely, started reeling in slowly, and bam something big started taking me for a run, drag was on fairly tight and it was screamin' started winding and tightening winding and tightening etc, this was going on for a bout 5-10mins, and then a whipcrack and nothing, line snap, bugger, got the line back up and hook leader and sinker all gone, Whatever it was it was decent, running 20lb leader and 30 odd thin braid, my double uni knot was still attached to the braid to mono?? hmm so whatever the Lake Macquarie monster has either bit or snapped 20lb mono? i was shocked, only on my small and simple setup (i know overkill on line but) that is always in the car, nothing fancy but like running decently bigger line as from using 10-15lb mono i have noticed breaks pretty easy on rock snags. Ah well, the one that got away, guess i need something bit stronger just incase, he comes back for round 2, after all the little jetty i fish off is just across from home, might get him next time aye? Till next time fishos... My regular/local jetty
  23. Hey mate, i have used stir fry strips of beef before and has worked for catching little bream, they must think its a worm, make sure its thin, don't chuck half a cow in there ? I also regularly use chicken breast and parmy on almost any fishing trip, best thing i can suggest is using a syringe with a small needle and filling it with tuna oil or some sort of fish oil and putting the needle into the actual meat/or chicken so it soaks it up. Did this with the beef strips and chicken and have caught a decent bream, also if going for bream and snapper specifically, chicken with tuna oil injected into it then soaked in parmy and wrapped in a bit of bread has worked for me several times, they must think its like a chicken in pijamas or something. Reason I wrapped in bread is it seams to keep the parmy on the chicken for longer. i would try the same on beef strips, if its marinated i dare say it will just ooze off it and not be on the bait for long, use a syringe.
  24. Western syd near blacktown, regularly go berowra or church point depending on wind and weather, or hit up local ponds or lakes for carp/mud marlin, and nepean after a decent poor
