Pandemic hobby - making your own soft plastics
swordfisherman replied to mrsswordfisherman's topic in Tackle Talk
For injection moulds you will need a plastic syringe 10 ml with the end cut off and the hole in the bottom drilled a little. 📍microwave for use on on plastics 📍a mould of the plastic you are using and there are plenty available 📍plastisol in soft medium or hard 📍Colouring and glitter. The plastisol when shaken and mixed or stirred is self hardening. A PYREX jug and you are set. Pour the plastisol into jug around 50 to 60 mls and place in microwave for 30 sec then stir and repeat 30 secs and stir. By this time the plastic will be thicker and clearer and now 30 more seconds should see the plastic turning clear and runny. This is best stirred and mixed with old stainless knife all metal. After stirring add a small amount of colour and stir and add more till desired colour and then add heat resistant glitter as needed in what colour you like and stir. Make sure the plastic is still runny and with your syringe suck up around half a 10 mil syringe for small lures and with your mould securely clamped together insert the syringe right inside the hole and press down slowly until it becomes firm to press and remove syringe. Now wait a few minutes and open your mould to see your new placcy -

I have the hairtail bug again and with upgrades to the boat and new tackle it’s become an addiction again like all my fishing. The usual spots are no secret and while not around in numbers the are of good size with good tailor and small Jews abundant it’s great fun.

We just add a pea sized sinker tie on a 5 or 6/0 and cut the strip around 6 inches and one inch wide and pin twice so it flaps around
