  1. Have been away for 2 weeks (with no fishing). The lawns need a mow and the house a good clean. Hoepfully get out for a couple of hours down the creek on Sunday...... Have to try and find a few before before I take Grant out on Tuesday Good luck with the Croc Grant. Look forward to a few photos Swordy - You lucky sod. It will be a great show.....
  2. From what I here there were a few caught last dark. Not heaps but enough to get out there. I recon it will only get better this dark with the bit of rain we have had.
  3. Thanks Bob The blackfish Blackfish are hanging around late this year. Might have to get over there and give them a shot
  4. Nice work mate. Where abouts in Tuggerah Lakes were you fishing??
  5. Sign me up Ken ...... (slips small unmarked bills under the table )
  6. The best I have seen them is same as MarkD. $179 at Amart. Mo tackle $125 . You dont have to travel all the way to Coffs. They do mail order
  7. I have heard rumours that the pros in Tuggerah lakes get a couple of jew a year in their nets but no where near enough to target them.
  8. Ohh ohh .... I know ..... I know I will leave it and see if anyone else can get it
  9. Thanks for the tips Grant. Hopefully we will get a couple I am starting to think the Lake Macquarie bream are hanging out with the Hawkesbury Hairtail
  10. G'day Grant It can be a real frustrating place to fish, especially shore based. Your right, things were very tough (at least for me) over winter and we have struggled to find fish over the last few months, noit just in the creek. So much so that I think I have lost my Mojo. We have started to see a few more fish over the last month or so but they have been tight up in the shallows and very spooky. Your technique, tackle, etc all sounds like it should be working but being shore based can make things very difficult. I know I have said it before but I will have to get you out on the boat one arvo and see if we can get a few. I will send you a PM.
  11. Going to give the Lake Macquarie Pro bream a shot this weekend. Based on past experiences I'm not expecting a great deal on the bream front but you never know..........
  12. Nice work Grant. I still have a hard time catching bream on lures up there. I could do with a few fish like that this weekend for the Pro Bream up there
  13. I am heading to Forster this arvo for the weekend. never fished there from a boat before so plan on doing a bit of exploring and trying to tangle with a few of these rack bream that I have heard so much about.. Have a good one all
  14. I know what you mean. It would be so much easier if the laws were just that "Laws" and said what they needed to and wern't open to interpretation
  15. My understanding was that you can not use a bait over 200g, with a wire trace on heavy gear (not sure what they mean by heavy gear???) Either one by itself is fine (e.g. Bait over 200g with no wire is ok). Thats just my interpretation
  16. Saturday - Up early for a solo mission on the lake (Tuggerah). Plan on doing a bit of exploring and trying a few new spots. The afternoon will be taken up with a few domestics and the Rodeo at Doylo in the evening. Sunday - Might try drifting a poddies around Lake Macquarie otherwise willm be hitting Ourimbah Creek Have a good one all
  17. I dont know if they were attracting whites to the area. I think its more just they are catching what is there. I have not seen or read anywhere that these guys are using berley. I think the sharks are going to be there if these guys are fishing for them or not. Its just keeps them out of the media spotlight........ Out of sight out of mind
  18. You could be right. I did see the steel trace, but based on my limited knowlege on the subject it didn't look that heavy by shark fishing standards. I have seen nylon coated wire shark traces around 15mm thick and it didnt look anywhere near that heavy I don't recon the larger white sharks would bother chasing the salmon schools. You would need to eat a hell of a lot of salmon to make up even 1 seal. (This is just my un-informed opinion )
  19. Great report.. Its an awesome part of the world up there. My brother bought a place up there about 6 months ago. The fishing is awesome and the amount of mud crabs in the creeks is just unbelivable I really need to get back up there very soon for another visit. Might have to take the boat next time..
  20. I thought it was a good watch and not full of the usual ACA crap... The whites they were catching were only small (for whites) and I really dont think they would see a person on a surfboard as a viable food source, we are just to big. I think they mentioned it on the show that Whites at that size are still fish eaters and with that many salmon in the water that is what they are concerntrating on...... Still not sure I would go surfing there though.
  21. Its been pretty quiet over there today with someone very noticable by their absence ...... he might turn up over the weekend.. I have been doing ok on the quitting smoking thing. I am on the patches which seems to take the edge off.... Haven't even looked sideways at one so far but I haven't been near it all week . The test will come tonight. I am off to a mates place for dinner, a few drinks and off to the pub. Of course they are all smokers..... but I recon I will be able to stick to it, even if I come home early ... fingers crossed
  22. So it turns out. The heading I put up over there started with "He was right!!!" It should make for an intersting read today.......... Bombie - You could be right. From the sketchy photo in the paper I wouldn't have picked it as a Bronzie. Have you seen other photos??
  23. Front page of todays local paper. Another shark caught at The Entrance “A shark estimated to weigh more than 50kg, was rescued at the Entrance channel last Friday after it beached itself three times on sandbars.....” “The shark was either a bronze whaler or bull shark....” The story goes that a bloke saw the shark come in the channel from a mates balcony. It was obviously disorientated so they followed it down the channel where it tried to beach itself a few times. The fella dragged it back into deeper water and held it in the current for a while forcing clean water through its gills trying to revive it. By all accounts it swam away but the article doesn’t say which way it headed . Full credit to the bloke for making the effort to try and save the shark. In years gone by it would have been clubbed to death out of misguided fear. Here is the photo from the paper. It was taken with a mobile phone to the image is pretty average.
  24. I used to have a one man inflatable boat as a kid. It was one of those cheapies that were meant for the pool.... Doesn't really help you but this is a great story On afternoon, when I was about 6 (or there abouts), I was in the lake out the back of the house with a $5 Coles rod, a bolt as a sinker and a pack of 3 day old prawns. I was about 300m from shore and the family was on the back verandah just watching. Anway I hooked up to the behemoth from the deep, well so I though... I was only 6 . After a short tussel I had the biggest flattie I had ever seen next to the boat. In reality it was probably only 60cm. With out a second thought I pulled the flattie over the side.... Well here I am 300m from shore, a flattie flapping around between my legs and a realisation that flattie spikes and inflatable boats don't mix... The old man still recons its one of the funniest things he has ever seen..... His eldest son paddling hell for leather in a deflating boat, trying to dodge the spikes, trying to make it to shore before the boat deflates around him. To cut a long story short I made it back in, with the fish, had him for dinner but the boat was retired to the bin I still have a good chuckle when I think about it
  25. Good choice Mark. What part of the Coast are you moving to??
