After seeing all these photos on Facebook of big dollies getting caught, We decided that Saturday rain hail or shine we were going out chasing dollies.
Well the morning weather was proving a good choice to come out with next to no wind but the rain set in after a while. Burned out of rose bay boat ramp around 5:15 straight to Clifton gardens for a mince and bread burley session. After 1-2 hours we loaded up on lollipop yakka.
Punched out of the heads to a private FAD, had a good laugh on the way out to the fads as we were near some charter boats, they were talking about us, calling us dickheads on the radio (to which they didn’t know we were on the same station) presumed we were following them to their own fads.
Started by letting the live yakkas out unweighted on big drifts. After about 20 mins boom first dollie in the boat and we had christened the lucky strike with its first dolphin fish. The weather picked up to pouring rain and rolling swells but we preserved with a few bird hook ups and another 4 dollies landed all around the 65-70cm size. The drift speed was around the 5-7kph as the wind was hammering in.
Left there for north sydney close fad, caught a couple of small undersized kings and punched it home to the heads in what was probably the roughed swell Lucky Strike has faced. Howling winds and a super short wave period. Took about 35 mins to go 8 kms in a 6m centre console.
All and all a great day with two mates, many a laugh and ticked the dolphinfish box.
