  1. Is your boat a Huntsman? looks identical to mine.
  2. After seeing all these photos on Facebook of big dollies getting caught, We decided that Saturday rain hail or shine we were going out chasing dollies. Well the morning weather was proving a good choice to come out with next to no wind but the rain set in after a while. Burned out of rose bay boat ramp around 5:15 straight to Clifton gardens for a mince and bread burley session. After 1-2 hours we loaded up on lollipop yakka. Punched out of the heads to a private FAD, had a good laugh on the way out to the fads as we were near some charter boats, they were talking about us, calling us dickheads on the radio (to which they didn’t know we were on the same station) presumed we were following them to their own fads. Started by letting the live yakkas out unweighted on big drifts. After about 20 mins boom first dollie in the boat and we had christened the lucky strike with its first dolphin fish. The weather picked up to pouring rain and rolling swells but we preserved with a few bird hook ups and another 4 dollies landed all around the 65-70cm size. The drift speed was around the 5-7kph as the wind was hammering in. Left there for north sydney close fad, caught a couple of small undersized kings and punched it home to the heads in what was probably the roughed swell Lucky Strike has faced. Howling winds and a super short wave period. Took about 35 mins to go 8 kms in a 6m centre console. All and all a great day with two mates, many a laugh and ticked the dolphinfish box.
  3. Great work mate! Personally I would have munched that octopus 😂 but great feed of crabs
  4. Great day on the water! I should have followed the same plan as I came up short at the FAD near north head. Impressive kingie numbers
  5. I have this rod with a Stradic spooled with 20lb braid on it. Its a little overkill on the rod but they are solid rods for the price
  6. Jesus bro great haul! great session! How does long tom go on the plate?
  7. Hey guys, recently purchased a boat seat for my centre console and it’s rather short for the boat. See photo down the bottom for a better idea. It’s 700mm high and I’m nearly about 300m more raise out of it and not sure about the best way to raise it up. So far my option is to take it to a metal fabricator to get an extension put on the bottom or a bracket for it to sit in that mounted to the floor. Any suggestions welcome.
  8. Great report, I pretty much did the same thing on Sunday with non of my yakkas and slimy macs touched. Though the other day someone got a 80kg marlin just between the heads Where can I find information about the wave rider btw?
  9. Headed out around 6:30am today with two fresh squid id caught the afternoon before off north Bondi. Tried to grab some yakka around middle head with plenty of sweep and zebra fish as by catch. Mate managed to get his line tangled up in a seagull which was a 10 minute affair getting it free. Aimed on hitting the fads however the swell wasn’t massive but didn’t feel like bobbing around out there today so kept in close up on north head where I was out of the wind. Trawled the two dead squid around for about an hour to no avail. Chucked a strip of slimy Mackerel on a hook and within a minute hooked a small king. Chucked a small yakka out and landed another small king followed by a couple more rats on slimy mackerel. Old mans hat was giving off plenty of action with a lot of boats and a few fishos reporting good amounts of rats with some guys losing some big kings on live squid.
  10. Mate great result! Good to see you taking out fellas who are new to fishing. Top work!
  11. Great report pickles. Great you managed some kings for the guys regardless the conditions. I’m heading out tomorrow too, wind and swell looks good.
  12. Great report mate! Smashing the cliffs outside the heads? Or heading out further?
  13. Great stuff guys! I’d love to link up with my boat for a trip sometime soon!
  14. Just around from north head? Great stuff! love reading your posts, I'm out trying my luck tomorrow
  15. Hey guys, Getting right into Fishraider as I recently bought a good sized boat as seen in the photo below. I get out a few times a week so look out for some more detailed fishing reports for Sydney harbour in the future. Headed out last Saturday on the long weekend, fair busy with all the boats as you'd expect. Area Fished: Started off heading out towards the heads, managed to get stuck into a massive school of salmon boiling up just off Watson's bay Navy base. Landed about 6 in quick succession. Took the girlfriend out and she caught her fish fish. Salmon quickly moved and popped up around Quarantine station. As the day went on they become more and more finicky. Ive had great success these last few days starts at the heads and working my way back towards shark island using the birds as guides. Time I left and returned: Headed out around 9am, bit of a late start but the wind picked up quite a bit so headed back around 12. Style of fishing I was doing: Flicking a combination of small metal lures, think 15g size either straight silver or blue baitfish. Alternated between metals and 10g jig head on soft plastics with brown and white jerk shad gulp. Type of gear I was using: Both of us mostly using Sienna's with 6lb braid as its a ton of fun on light gear. Switched to 4000 Stradic on a 7ft Shimano Raider to put the heat on them a bit. Had a bit of a flick with a sizeable squidgie on the Shimano SLX but the salmon werent having a bar of it. Boat is a 6m Centre Console with 200ltr underfloor fuel tank (range is about 280-300kms) and a 175HP engine. Looking forward to organising some great trips around Sydney with fellow Fishraiders. 16. There’s a lot of salmon busting up in the harbour lately. Mostly around the heads and quarantine.
  17. Thanks Derek! Ill spend the extra money and get a Stradic with the Shimano rod. I’ve got a soft spot for Shimano gear as it’s served me well in the past. Thanks for the heads up on the cI4
  18. Hey guys, Recently got a sizeable boat and can now venture out of the heads and to the fads. Im looking at a combo around the 350-400 price point for chasing sport fish on soft plastics. I'd like something lightish so i can get a good fight out of a 7-12kg kingfish/tuna/salmon whilst flicking soft plastics or metals. Kind of your rock up to a boil up/Fads session. My initial thoughts are a mid range Shimano reel around the 4000-5000 size, 20 lb braid and frankly no idea on the style of rod and length. Any help would be appreciated
