  1. I use the Vanish fluro line as leader material in 4lb and 10lb with no fault so far. As with all fluro it's not quite as supple as some of the nylon monos but the benefits (low visability and high density) well out weigh this small downside. I've always assumed it was the same material but sold in different lengths but perhaps there's more to it. I think I was guided by the tight @rse inside me that saw 300m for under $20 as really good value.
  2. Great result. Hope it serves as a warning for the other cheating crooks that I'm sure exist
  3. Well done Kel. Sounds like you were rewarded for your efforts. On the parking issue at Tunks, I couldn't agree more. I was down there a similar time this morning and had to park halfway up the hill. It makes it especially difficult when I'm launching and retrieving alone as I was today. Invariably I end up having to run to and from my paqrking spot so I'm not one of those people who hogs the plontoon for ages. I'm a bit worried someone might pinch my gear while it's unattended as well. I'll take you up on your suggestion and send an email to Nth Sydney Council. Just a word of warning... I got a fine down there once for reversing the trailer onto the grass behind a normal parking spot. Won't be doing that again!

    Boat Name

This is slightly off topic as I haven't actually named my boat, but one of the funniest boat names I've seen was on a scuba diving boat about 10 years ago in Ulladulla Harbour. Its name was "MUFF DIVER". As to how it got its name, I didn't ask, but even if I did know, I suspect I wouldn't be able to relay the story with a G-rating
  5. I've seen some similar looking beasts patrolling the ramp at tunks park. Good on you for landing them on poddie tackle
  6. Another legendary post from a legendary member! Congrats on 4000 awesome posts
  7. You sure seem to have cracked the jewie code . Well done on another great effort
  8. Good to show it's not always about needing the latest and greatest to catch quality fish. Low-tech still works a treat!
  9. Thanks Ray . I got lot's of fishy prezzies so I'm a happy chappy .
  10. They're a lovely reel for sure... I've had one on my "to be purchased radar" for a while. The other I've also considered if you want to stretch the budget a bit further would be the Saltist Spin in 4500 size. It's got a tiny bit more drag (10kg, not 9kg), 2 more BB's and a high speed gear ratio (like the stradic). Both super reels though!
  11. Servo pillies and look at the results ! Looks like we've all been wasting our time catching livies ! Well done on a great haul
  12. Can't comment on the Sustain as I've never owned one but I bought the 2500 ci4 nearly 6 months ago and for me it's been faultless. Super light, great drag out of the box and very rigid frame and body for a "graphite" reel. Not that it's an ordinary graphite reel. I really like to the look of it too! My only other comment is to say that I thought it was only available in 1000 and 2500 size... but perhaps they'll release a 4000 soon? Although I have had some great fun hooking onto sub legal rat kingies on my 2500 with 8lb fireline. The other option in 4000 size would be a Fireblood if you can track one down. You may be able to get a discount as well!
  13. That was a scary couple of days... No fishraider.. eep! Anyway, well done to all those involved with the upgrades. It looks great!
  14. All can be caught off Greenwich ferry wharf, with night time best for squid. It gets very crowded though. Small amounts of berley off the outside middle corner does wonders to attract the yakkas and there are normally some tailor amongst them as well. A single lightly weighted no 12 hook with a tiny piece of bait works best. And here's my rant..... I was there the other night having not been there for ages and it drove me nuts that a number of the fishos down there were littering there bait packets and throwing their cigarette butts in the water . Fisherman who do this clearly don't have a long term view of their hobby or the environment. Pisses me off big time!!!
  15. Well done Danielsan (Karatekid) . They're a lovely looking fish. I catch the odd one in the harbour as a kingy by-catch but not that often. I now know when I've got one on the line because they feel like a vibrating rat king .
  16. There's something you need to know but I'm reluctant to say because I'm worried you might take it the wrong way... I HATE YOU! Just kidding Ceph. You're on fire and I'm very jealous!!!
  17. Good one Nathan . Great result. Nothing beats the poddies in Narrabeen lake. They're a great way of filtering out the better fish and avoiding the thousands of pickers that most people catch using dead/ frozen baits they've bought. I've always found that when you're using poddies down there, all you get are flatties , and keeper bream . Nippers also work a treat on the flats for whiting, but you'll also catch a few undersize numbers as well. They never seem to last more than a second or 2! Keep up the good reports.
  18. Gday Snapperless. to the site. Plenty of great advise and interesting reading that's for sure. Not trying to detract from your catch, but you should be really careful keeping fish before you've possitively identified the species. You don't want a nasty sting or a fine. Grab a fish identifying book or DPI booklet from your local tackle store. When you're not fishing, they make great "toilet reading". Cheers , Geoff.
  19. Well done on a couple of tasty specimens Some other time give poddies or nippers a go. They're easy to catch and work a treat down there.
  20. Incredible effort. That's what fishing dreams are made of Enjoy it!!!
  21. After bragging about my new rod and reel purchase last week (Trion tournament 2-5kg + 2500 CI4 Stradic), and finally getting the boat ready after a fishing-less 3 months, I just had to get out on the water on the weekend!!! Yeah, yeah, I know, gale forced wind predictions... I headed out with of my equally keen/ stupid mates. The plan was to stay inside the harbour and fish close to the eastern side of some shorelines after trying to catch some bait. Annoyingly we had real trouble catching bait at all my normal spots in the washing machine conditions. We quickly gave up on catching squid and yakkas and moved to a relatively sheltered spot tucked in close to Middle Head. My mates switched to the backup frozen bait while I started working plastics with the new outfit. Using a 3" Gulp pogy on 10lb vanish leader tied to a 6lb fireline. I felt a solid take and then some solid weight. The weight quickly turned into that lovely sound of ZZZZZZZZZZZZ as something reasonable went for a solid run. I tightened the drag slightly and proceded to win my line back. I was desperate not to lose the first fish on my new outfit. Pretty soon I could make out a solid sambo at the end of my line an the surface. He made a couple of last runs for freedom near the boat but he was finally subdued into the net and landed. We took a couple of happy snaps, measured him with the tape measure and scales before releasing him for another day. Here's the results... He measure 70cm on the nose and weighed in at just over 5.5lbs. A PB sambo for me on plastics and the new combo managed it with ease. We also saw this seal enjoying the sun in the same quiet spot near middle head.... Heading back to ramp got a little wet! Heading west towards Balmoral was like heading upstream against white water rapids ! Can't wait to get out again this weekend. Hopefully the wind stays away! Cheers, Geoff.
  22. to the best fishing site around, and great haul! Keep up the great posts like that one . Good encouragement for other land based fishos out there!
  23. Howdy. I just bought a Trion Tournament last week and used it Sunday for the first time. It was fantastic and well and truly performed to my expectations. It's the best rod I've used for under the $200 mark. Stay tuned for my post on what it caught on Saturday. Cheers, Geoff.

    New Weapon

Retail is around the $380 mark but after a little chat to my local tackle-monger, I ended up paying $280 for the little beauty. Felt like pretty good value to me...

    New Weapon

Hi raiders, Just thought I'd share my joy (and show off). Today I added a new addition to my tackle family and she's beautiful! I've paired a brand new 2500 size CI4 Shimano Stradic with a Pflueger Trion Tournament 2-5kg. Can't wait to take her out this weekend and put her to the test. If you haven't felt these new stradics yet do yourself a favour and get to a tackle store and fondle one. Super smooth, balanced and LIGHT! Only disappointment is that CI4's only come with 1 spool. I'll attach some pics tomorrow... Cheers, Geoff.
