  1. On the flip side i hope we dont perseive that only blues get caught out in the abyass or on elephant gear this is not the case, it has and does quite often happen inside the shelf and to as close as 12 mile reef of sydney for example many a blue as been caught on 15kg and less its just that when you target this fish what as allready been said is the usual norm as said it can happen at any place and time and in quite a lot of cases.........fishing on social a day when you are least expecting it to happen is when it does how well you are prepared for when it does then decides wether you will be or . Cheers Steve
  2. James 1990 Just a brief rundown regards your questions regards the mighty blue marlin 1.Its not unusual to expect to come across blue marlin at any time of the summer season with the higher probabillity increasing from april to may infact before the recent blow there were quite a few around early june which is not unusual 2.The shelf and beyond' browns' numerous canyons infact they can pop up any where at times particulary if a food source is abundant striped tuna yellowfin tuna etc 3. the above mentined bait slimey's etc and of course lures 4.tackle most of the game boys employ 24kg and above for these denizons of the deep And the last question who. well to wet your appetite let me tell you for example at xmas just gone we were watching 20-30 kg yellowfin getting hammered by a constant barrage of blue marlin during the course of the day if memory serves me right there were 23 called as tagged by the boats that experienced it that day many gamefisherman aspire to tangle with the blue marlin i am quite sure that Ross hunter on Broadbill as acheived this quest for many a person off many who own there own boat some game fishos have put many hours in there quest for a blue marlin but it dosnt come easy. debate has gone on for many a year re lures and tactics for the blue marlin stick to a med size lure popular is the............. Med sprocket in lumo, evil, but to name two Cheers Steve
  3. Aussie raider Regards the issue of one versus two let me just say if you intend to do offshore work lets say the shelf and beyond there is nothing more reassuring than to know that if you were to drop a motor for whatever the reason that you have another one to get you back home and for that reason alone this installs alot of confidence about venturing outwide...........For the twin motors to be truly effective they both need to be set up with individual means of delivery by that i mean........seperate filters, fuel tanks lines.duel battery set up etc...........Providing the means to isolate the problem if it was to arise to one motor or the means to switch between motors to fault find and or confine the problem to one motor for whatever the reason.is sobering.................HOWEVER! while in most cases this allows you to get over most problems you are likey to come across from a mechanical or electrical aspect nothing is foolproof i have been in the situation a few times on both sides............. The last one involving a 64 nautical tow back to port although not life threatning it could of very well of been i learnt from that experiance and now have a 3rd yes 3rd means of battery source that would require another topic to explain fully that eventfull day................................. I am running twin yamaha 115 4 strokes approaching 2,000 hrs and are both doing to expectation all the latested model motors are good its just that some are better than others ..............a common problem encountered with 4 stroke twin set up being the hull was never designed to carry that weight on the transom in the first place and you hear quite often the same problem with some of the big 4 stroke singles also........................ so maybe the e-tec or the better of the 2 strokes would come to mind if weight distribution was a factor just my opinion i hope it helps cheers Steve

    Transducer Size

Andrew Strange that 600 watts is all they are prepared to accomodate for particulary when a lot of fish'oes are opting for 3 kwt transducers these days however i know a few mates who have there 1kwt transducers affixed to sliding and adjustable transom mounted brackets a simple and easy enough and straight forward fitting is all that is required they work really good my transducer is a through hull with a fairing block and works really good maybe bostan accomodate for these types of things when factory ordered as opposed to off the boat yard cheers steve

    Transducer Size

Nick dont be to concerned regards the 1kwt transducer in shallower water either switch to the lower power setting on your sounder and or adjust the gain down to suit the depth of water its much better to have that power on tap when required than not to have it Regards Steve

  8. Hi all Wish to share any bloops and blunders or embaressing goofs along the learning curve of fishing for i will start it off. A couple of years ago agood mate of mines wish was for him to catch his first marlin so with this in mind we set out to get one for this marlin virgin being the type who was hands on he wanted to help so I instructed him which one of the lures in the lure pouch to use, and were best in the pattern to place it, and just at what the right distance for it to do its thing. And do it did ! during the course of the morning it got mauled eaten and attacked on no more than five occasions and which after the second time i asked him to bring it in and check it which he did its fine says he after the fith time i told him to bring it back in let me look at i said i know the hooks are sharp i touched them up last night any thing swimming within coee of it should hook up and maybe so if only some one had removed the plastic hook gaurds before putting it in the water. OOPS he remained a marlin virgin untill one year to the day when finally getting his wish and caught his first marlin and being a little fella we brought it on board before releasing it for some happy pics off the proud angler. use my camera he says so i did never can understand what he sees in twelve blank picture frames stacked behind his bar for you see in the pre digital camera days they gave a much better result if you loaded it with film first. OUCH!
  9. Only just joined the fishraider forum and only to happy to share up to date fishing reports and were to go get them as your proberly aware i am into the game fishing side of things but as the days drag by those carp are getting more and more enticing but i will try and remain patient for when things settle down i have a feeling the forum will be abuzz with the run of yellowfin that should be happening offshore Steve

  11. I guess we will have to suck and see as we draw closer to the weekend regards the weather conditions. For ourselves we are heading out over the shelf for i figure the run of yellow fin that was happening south of us prior to the bad weather must surely be snapping there heads off out wide at the moment if this weekends weather is favourable we will look forward to getting our arms stretched for sitting home all these weekends is driving me stircrazy i dont want to think about carp but if it goes another week who knows! Steve
