  4. Quote... Out of interest anyone fishing the SGFC monster mako tourney Le Pasha (Daniel) Yes Daniel....I am fishing it....are you thinking of making it ? hope to see you there................ Cheers Warnie
  5. Roylo I guess having a map is not so much as helping you find the spot easier as you say........its also the features that come with it they can come in handy maybe you might need to come back in the dark or heavy rain and you will be able to orientate yourself quite easily were you are and with danger areas etc what ever choice you decide with brand of gps if the pennies allow to include the map i dont think you would look back............ Cheers Warnie
  6. Roylo To answer your question i went to retreive a rod and reel dropped overboard today courtesy of one of my kids............... And physically heard between mine a (4/stroke) and a mates 2 stroke who came over to lend a hand.......... and can say i did not distinguish any difference in noise whatso ever underwater ..........things you do after reading a post...................Hyperthermia aside i did not retreive the outfit........ but hopefully answered the question................. Cheers Warnie
  7. That sounds like the plan now youv'e just got go get em.................. Hope to see some pic's good luck. Warnie ps..... yes........ let them go and come up on the drag as opposed to striking
  8. Fishlexic Here is what i use succesfully for y/fin and would highly recommend as such so give this a go and you will not be dissapointed Hop in and see mrs Watto grab or order in a pkt of 9/0 SSW IN-LINE CIRCLE made by owner attach these via 80lb ande trace in pink tie the trace to the hook and crimp the top end with chaff tube These hooks can best be described as (and with no disrespect) a hook for dummies they are very forgiving and work extremely well we also use these for marlin up to 150kg so dont look at them and say YOUR KIDDING.....if you need more info using methods etc them ask i will come back Cheers Warnie
  9. Huey it must feel like youre banging your head against a wall at times but pel as touched on a subject close to heart for a lot of fishos We are a weird lot but amongst the circle of freinds that i fish with... there first thoughts when purchasing new motors ie fuel consumption, maintenance.etc gets pushed way down the ladder of thinking as opposed to how there going to go with raising marlin in comparison to the previous year and i kid you not if for whatever reason its not happening........... Then fingers will be pointed in that direction a mere suggestion that the motors are scaring the fish away .......well that would be sounding a death bell as i said we are a weird mob and in that group...... that thought lies upermost sending them to you to fix em if they stop going is an annoying interruption to there fishing time.............. i would imagine that to be a total differant logical way to your way of thinking but putting these well known fishing identities up on show catching these fish is one way of aligning these fears no these are not knocking any particular brand of motor but if you want to make a squillion as allready been suggested patent some thing to attract them fish more than your competitor and even if the motor has nothing to do with it you would be well on your way Weird and fanatical we game fishoes can be and it does'nt just stop at motors either...lol.... just a hopefull insight into our one track minds at time Huey CheersWarnie
  10. Fishlexic Depending on the current around about 2-2.5 kg per hr should get you away........ you need enough to entice them but fall short of actually feeding them its a balance to learn thats why you here other fishoes refer to when the pillie starts to dissapear out of sight you toss another one and so on and on................. One thing i would advise you to do is make sure you bring the pillies as close to water temp as possible they seem to get spooked with frozen or just defrosted pieces been presented and if you dont use circle hooks...... then give them a go you will never look back as there are very good for this type of fishing hope that helps. . Cheers Warnie
  11. Ross As i thought about what i just said....i deserve some one to come back and say ...Doh! it is a 2 stroke.......so .let me re phrase it After them few trips i was talking about i had no grumbles about the motor at all particulary performance i guess for some reason i was expecting that clean smell as i get from my 4/strokes........but it was not evident.. the skipper of that boat was either used to the smell or couldnt smell it because he kept reminding me of the fact and the same when i went in another mates boat so like the smell of diesel which again is more evident to some...... more than others i guess i was a little bit disapointed in that fact and that was why i asked the question i didnt want to mention E-TEC and yourself and others read it and say oh know not the e-tec debate again.... no not that be the case just an observation from a day on the water perspective.........ever had 4/ strokes on the boat ross as comparision just out of curosity. Cheers Warnie
  12. Just would like to know........ wether it just be me or not but when i fish in other mates boat's and i am not picking on the E-Tec here ..........just useing it as an example.... the distinct two strokey smell is still evident particularly when trolling downwind as opposed to my 4/strokes as any one else thought the same ? Cheers Warnie

    Pillies

Boys Trust me trap bait is the way to go for the y/fin they are more than good enough for putting out as a trail cut in halves or thirds etc then have a fresh packet of A1 quality pillies on hand as your bait on the hook send them down the trail whole and then hopefully its zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... its a whole heap cheaper exercise and works a treat hope that helps Cheers Warnie
  15. Frank As anth said is the go......... and quite often other boats and myselfe included drop a pilchard set just out of sight in the cube trail with a snapper sinker attached as a breakaway and left unattended in the rod holder has it's fair share of results also try that next time as well as a variation................
  16. Hi guys Just thought i would mention that yesterday around 3 miles east of browns there is a distinct current line no apperant temp break though.... this is the area we settled for a cubeing session and the one boat inside us and outside us both caught fin on livies..... we observed striped tuna getting chased by tuna on a few occasions during the arvo so if that situation holds it could be worth at least a look on the weekend boys..... netic sorry i missed you on the radio i was tied up................. Cheers Warnie
  17. Hey Guy's I came across the wave from hell a few years back (5years i think) went out in the morning with no wind and 1 mtr swell............... down south, from bermagui across a bar but not really a bar as such certainly not like swr........Anyhow during the course of the day i had been experiancing the starboard motor intermidently shutting down and thought bugger..... but hey every thing's fine after all i have spare one also noticed the increase in swell..... still no wind though and set off back to home to beat dark......Two miles out and the alarm bell's were ringing when i could here the waves crashing and was immersed in a fine spray oh oh !!! The swell had picked up from nothing to huge all generated by a cyclone way up north ....My mood had changed now knowing i had to cross a bar that normaly never works..... but now was crashing and to do it on one motor the boat in all honesty is a dog on one motor.... Another boat had hung with us for morale support upon getting close to the bar we both commited ourselves to the approach and went for it The other boat went first with me being the slowest next well that was the plan.................. But as we went i decided to try and start the starboard motor again and was amazed when it fired and went !!!!! but we were on the same wave two differant angles heading for the same entrance on a wave that resembled hawaii 5/0 with me now powering down the wave and about to land on top of the other boat...... well how we missed each other was through goodluck.... not skill on my part and then to negotiate the bar by a full hard lock to get through needless to say we did............ but even to this day we both laugh about it but the fellas with me beg to differ they never stopped kissing the jetty when we got back Some one even tracked me down with video footage of the event that day and it does look spectacular but some thing i never want to experiance ever again the wave bouy registred 6.2mtrs that day.... but pulling up on the bar who knows????? Cheers Warnie
  18. Jewgaffer or col what i know about catching jewies in the river you could write on the back of a postage stamp thats why a couple of years ago i went with some mates who new what they were doing.........They obtained there live squid and plenty of em very quickly on squid jigs made of the bottom part of empty bic pens about 50mm in lenght with the squid prongs inserted were the ink biro goes......The weed beds on a beach opposite cottage point held 1,000's of the blighters and used as bait, the local squid was exeptional for catching school jewfish that arvo with...... although far from been called big there was no shortage in coming on board i'm sure squid boy would enjoy starting off with such.... are you familiar with the jig? i described for it seemed to be the prefered choice with us and other locals near buy on that particular day or is it one of them things that's faded away with time..... Cheers Warnie
  19. Hi Andrew Enjoy the new toy....when you have a handle on things is there a chance of your thought's............ ease of use..effectiveness etc on the radar setup..... i noticed that is fitted to her i recall the discussion in regards to the initial sounder choice and presume that was thrown in the package so to speak Cheers Warnie
  20. Netic I guess each to there own.....we actually run two can't fault them..... they certainaly don't scare em away we then put what we call a Qantas bibless..... 3 mtrs behind each one this method account's for a lot of y/fin for us but everyone is differant incidently we lost 3 last season to marlin pinching them and would highly reccomend them........though costly if that keeps happening Cheers Warnie
  21. You know what Funny you say it looked cold.............. it actually was i dont know who else was out maybe anth ? But after just returning back from trout fishing at lake eucumbene and that never even got close to that day.....which i would have to rate the coldest day on the water for me ever and i was in the cabin...lol..... Warnie

  24. Hi Raiders Managed to get out recently to try for some y/fin tuna off sydney "Ungry" departed early morning and was greeted to a kind ocean despite the weather report... we trolled an area affectionatly refered to as the kink.... we had an avid reader of fish raider on board who has never caught a y/fin before and am happy to say whilst not in the class of that magnificent 80kg caught recently and only weighing sub 20kg they were of no less of a milestone to him.............. he was beaming from ear to ear..... Hoping to go back out on the next good weather window and I am sure he will be eagerly awaiting to try again. Cheers Warnie
