  1. Hi searunner I just simply run the appropriate crimp up the 400lb leader i then slide that length of 130lb from the top end into the same crimp tighten with your crimper and repeat for each and every dropper........if that has you still confused then yes i could always take a pic and show you..... in regards to the marks sure pm me tomorrow i will give you two..... i wont accept any responsibility for smashed tackle or sore arms though.....lol..... Warnie..........
  2. Hey rod you got me there all i know for certainty is i do get good result on both 80 & 81 but generally better with channel 81... so i stick to channel 81.......hence brookvale channel 81 ??? Gosford channel 80????? jee...... im curious to know myself...can you confirm..... Warnie......
  3. Hi mate as netic said is correct.....it seems at times on the water you can get dead areas.......the one noticiable differance with VHF is it works better by line of sight........hence repeaters are put in certain places to help give an extended line of sight for greater coverage ......... one is a top...... mt...... (it escapes me) up at Gosford way....... one on top of mt kiera wollongong etc......as a rule channel 81 (Repeater at Gosford) for example allows me to chit chat after being relayed through the repeater to some one fishing at say port stephens.....and at the same time would not be able to talk to say oz....18 miles away over the horizon All the same the vast majority of us fishing outside have both VHF & 27MEG on board both from mainly a safety factor and convenience to talk on....VHF is the dearer one and yes you would require to have two differant areials......... Cheers Warnie..........
  4. Hey fishlexic......... okay the method i employ quite often is to let the slimey out to your desired distance lets say 40 mtrs then attache a snapper lead to the mainline via a 32nbr elastic band (useing same technique you would with attaching your lures to tag lines if trolling lures) you would pay out the line the bait would then sit at a depth all relevant to weight of sinker and how fast you troll and current etc......but all being equal just nicely........... then take your line attache to a peg....or roller troller and set out long on your outrigger the other outrigger set short at unweighted...ie normal....allowing a downrigger to be placed down the middle staggered and unempeded......very effective on marlin and and combined along with the other method i mentioned accounts for a lot of marlin being encountered........ i have never tried that method to target kingies but have no doubts they would readily scoff it down to hear this noise zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... hope that has not confused you.....easy in practice but harder to explain..... with the weight as well....it gives you the option of going into nuetral when going over a bait school and it drops down ever so closer to that school were hopefully ending in with what we all came out for............ Cheers Warnie...........
  5. Hi james.......... 10kg is what line ive got spooled on the 6500 baitrunner as for capacity i havent got a clue ......a lot it looks like....... Cheers Warnie.... . ps...........oh yea take the yellow boris outfit it goes with your eyes....
  6. Hi james i just purchased two shimano bluewater15kg spin sticks and matched them to 6500 shimano baitrunners and gave them a go on the snapper on the weekend just gone.....needless to say i was not undergunned but the rod still showed the sensetivity required overall i was quite impressed i myself am going to use this outfit to chase mid range kings, cobia, dolphin fish, y/fin, etc and even going to give the little black marlin a shot with them all when i go away up to s.w.rocks at xmas i just wanted to buy something that i thought would handle it all comfortably on a broad range of species and that i could carry on the boat with me i guess i will have to give you a fair dinkum report after xmas though........ but im confident..... Cheers Warnie.....
  7. Yea......... as you know a lot of fisho's slide a lumo bead down over either the crimp or the knot of the hook as an attraction....and it works!!!!!!!!! to well infact..... on the way up every gemmie in the vicinity slashes at it on the first leg ribbon fish the secong leg then last but not least.....Mr mako get's drawn to all the attention that has been happening if them gemmies slashing at the leader haven't done enough damage it's as sure as night follows day the mako shark will finish it......i know it still happens but with beads you can almost gaurantee it .......... Warnie..........
  8. Thanks daniel............wish i could have done that the first time you make it look so easy........ hope you don't mind me doing it again..... . Warnie.........
  9. Hi stumpy Electric reel lovely.....im still doing it the hard way....with a deck winch spooled with 150lb braid my trace consists of aprrox a 5 mtr length of 400lb trace with a loop crimped for the swivel to connect to....then at about 1 mtr spacings i have a dropper of 130lb at about 450mm long crimped to the main line and with a mustard 16/0 circle on the buisness end.......... four in total down to the bottom with a length of of 60lb looped and again crimped this loop is the connection to the sinker and serves as a sacrificial breakaway........ if snagged....as i said i prefer to go down with the lightest weight possible and all things been equal quite often a 1lb sinker suffices for me.... there are plenty of variations which i will let some one else add to hope to see you out there for some sensational...tucker.... Warnie....... ps... stay clear of luminous beads.......
  10. i think there is a lot of merit in it i can confidently tell you that 4 y/fin tuna that i know of all weighing over 75kg were captured on a squidgy trolled on a downrigger and one on a bibless a boat that i am mates with has caught more marlin with trolling garfish on a downrigger than you and i have had breakfasts......so they certainaly work....... one thing though.... i noticed this season was the amount of y/fin tuna caught on technicolour squidgees..... so if you get a chance at the y/fin again maybe a visit is in order to mrs watto or another raider sponser and grab yourself a couple because them slimey suckers really work...... Warnie.....
  11. Fishlexic i keep saying a downrigger not as prefered option better clarify myself... i feel a downrigger is just another thing to get in the way and go wrong etc...... the line on my reels are marked in increments of every 20mtrs with red indellible ink the bait is dropped down to the desired depth of the present bait marked on your sounder the sinker is attached to the line via a breakaway elastic band you can accuretly drop that bait to the desired depth via the increments no guess work and either drift through or very slowly troll around the school when hooking up there is nothing to bring in or get in the way to foul up with this is a very effective method for catching both marlin & kingfish........ hope that helps fishlexic....... try that....... i generally use a downrigger for bigger baits.... ie..... striped tuna to physicaly take them down...... Warnie..........
  12. Yea heaps of times down to around a max of 80 mtrs but a downrigger is not the prefered option for me personally.......... but fire away with any questions if i can help i will try and answer............. Warnie..........
  13. Hey fishlexic i hope you are not thinking the only way to catch kings is with a downrigger that be far from the truth last sunday they were great numbers of kings on a reef out from sydney the boats fishing for them there were having a ball they mentioned they were all jig caught and i can tell you they were above average size........ in regards to the 1kwt transducer there is no comparision in relation to a 600watt were deep water performance is concerned as netic said in greater depths of 200mtrs and beyond at say browns for example the quality of the reading is excellant... well at least mine is....it would be no differant for me looking at the bottom there than what you would be at say 30 mtrs but this comes at a cost which you of course have to way up..... i am sure some one here will give you few pointers on using livies for kings............ fishlexic just mention a few names let me think!!!!!!! ......yea... the banks..... just one of many spots that gets the blood pumping..... Cheers Warnie..........
  14. Hi mike False hope....... no definetly not ... the thing though is to keep up to date with the updates issued daily as you can find at times both seabreeze & bom forecasts for the weekend can change dramaticaly with whats forecast on a wednesday the best guide i suppose with seabreeze is at least the projected prediction of wind strength and swell following the weekend showing both to be getting a lot worse so at this time if that change arrives at the time as suggested then yea do able....... but as said as it draws nearer......study and take note to both seabreeze & bom particulary warnings as close as possible before making a decision......... Cheers Warnie........

    Braid Tests

Netic did you stop at braid or did you also try mono as well???? we recently tested 10 well known brand names........ and lets just say it was dissapointing..... one particular brand sold as 24kg on the label consistently broke at 9kg when you think some hapless fisho has more than likely got his strike setting at 8kg it goes with out saying hes behind the 8 ball before he starts......... thats why when some one gets confidence in a particular brand of line they tend to stick with it its sounding like the same will apply to braid.......... these testings were carried out with a line tester...... actual line no knot..... Warnie.....

    Braid Tests

Hey guys as said i like whiplash addmitably the 150-200 lb class its been a bit hard to get recently thats partly why i havent changed it as often as i should be doing.......... any how when making enquiries they said the manufactuer was using the product for body armour due to a resurgence in body protection with the present world unrest...... iraq...etc... and found this market more lucritive than fishing line.... well does it sound plausible or do you think it's a fob off any thoughts?????? Warnie.........
  19. sorry lian didnt mean for it to sound like i was haveing a dig at you i arrived at the same time with two other boats at 6.45 that pro boat was allready there......we started with the usual 4 hook rig drop but loaded up on all 4 hooks and with the current applying pressure we busted off on the way up on both reels.. we tried again same result..... so dropped back to 2 hooks with one reel with boat held in reverse and proceded to load up every drop we left at 10.30 did not want to take it to bag limit we had more than enough...... say hi next time i may off been able to talk you into swapping some cod for gemmies....... ungry is the boat name.... Warnie...........
  20. Mate i gotta agree with the gemmies they are great tucker i am a 7.2 broadbill we were drifting the western drop off away from the gemmies it really exploded between 7- 8.30 am got a sneaky feeling ....just about when you might of just being getting there???? maybe you were a fraction late for the initial early bite ?????? ps.... light sinkers no heavier than 1 kilo...........that be the heaviest pain in that current though it was moving......... Warnie.............
  21. Hi lian a method i was introduced to a while back and have found to be very sucessful at brown's and worked a treat again for us on sunday i subscribe to the big bait light weight theory when fishing browns in most cases reasonably heavy weights are employed to get down.......... but in fact a substantial lighter weight will produce a much better result you will have to give the winch a helping hand and as sunday reverse up to keep in touch with it but once down there........the fish are quickly onto it we loaded up every drop sunday with that method and the class of fish for us was of better qaulity averaging 15-18 kg we came across no gemmies we have dropped our traces down to 130 lb reasonably light for there but have experienced no problems when i say big baits we were using full squid from the markets at about that 350mm long with full fillets of mullet on the other hook if you have never tried that before then give it a go you will sure enjoy the result.......... Cheers Warnie..........

    Braid Tests

Hey Oz just a question....... i'm not that up with all the ins and out's with braid but after years of fishing brown's have come to rely and have faith in whiplash and exclusively use such dropping there no testing............. just the old hang on to it and heave em up from the bottom style but on sunday horror of horrors i busted off three times on fish (150lb test) the average fish sunday were 15-18kg even if i had a double on that would of been way under test but this is 3rd season with the braid so do you think maybe after time braid starts to breakdown? degenerate? think maybe it's time to spool up with a fresh 1,000 mtrs of line........... Cheers Warnie..........
  23. IFS....no.... not a reef as such that paticular night we were about mid way between browns and heatons we were attempting to catch a broadbill ...... incidently i was teaseing these squid with whole mullet they would grab it..... and dart away......it was like being connected to a mach truck. the idea behind the madness being floodlights were shone on the water to deliberatly attract the squid......I just didn't expect to encounter calamari on steroids........ Warnie.....
  24. how could i say no......off course........ i will locate it on GPS and pm it to you tomorrow........will that be okay Warnie.............
  25. Hey Dan i have got to tell you this....... i had the oppertunity just recently and fished out wide (near browns mnt) its a totaly surreal feeling out there in the night any how in the outside edges were the lights hit the water...you could see squid darting to and fro normal you would say......... except the average size of these squid were 4ft plus............ no !!!!!!!! im not telling porkies and yes take your squid jig with you.... Cheers Warnie..........
