  1. I enjoy using light setup, 8-15lb trace to a gama circle hook size 1/0 and a live prawn unweighted. Trace to main line and hook. If the kingies arnt there, I can easily snip off the hook, put a pea sinker and a normal hook and chase bream.
  2. Other towns i've read are Port Lincon, Stange, Lucinda, Dunalley
  3. An article I read said Exmouth, Coffs, and Darwin.
  4. I was wondering where the best town in Australia is to fish. Say if you were a die hard fisherman and just wanted to live to fish, what town would you base yourself out of? Assuming you fish open waters for pelagics and game fish, i.e. tuna, marlin, kingfish etc etc.
  5. I was chatting to my uncle today and he told me about a guy that use to fish the Hawkesbury River in a small tinny and a handline. He would fish at irregular times, and have fishing holes that he would never tell anyone. After reguarly catching 3 or more huge jewfish, he would take them to the Sydney Fishmarket and sell them for some beer money. Apparently hes moved up to the central coast now. I wont say what his name/nickname was, not PC these days lol. Love hearing old-time stories of fishermen like this before social media, using old-school techniques. Would be funny if someone on this site also knew of this guy, he was quiet well-known during that time as a gun fisho apparently so wouldn't be suprised. Or just any other stories like this, love to hear them.
  6. Nice, I went out to longreef saturday, sounded up heaps of kings but no takers on the downrigger and passanger got sea sick so had to turn back...fail. Are you just using normal running ball sinker for your squid baits? Or slowly drifting with big snapper sinkers?
  7. Thanks mate, will keep an eye on wind for sure.
  8. Exactly haha which is why I am so keen to brave the rain tomorrow.
  9. Also - where has been a good yakka spot? Balmoral and middle head is where I might try
  10. Hi all, still kind of new to boating. Want to go out tomorrow to east of syd harbour bridge and try out my downrigger. Definitely going to rain, but wind and swell pretty tame. Is it not advisable to go out boating in the rain? Ill start off chasing live yakkas, and downrig around south head and maybe even longreef.
  11. Hey all, recently got a boat and am out of the loop of where it's firing at the moment at Sydney harbour. Any tips or reports appreciated, targeting kingfish. I have a 5.6m alimunum boat with 115hp 4 stroke so can take it most places, but due to my boating experience the furthest I would go is longeeef. Went out last week for the first time, got some live squid, but didn't really know where to drop it. Tried around south head but struggled to find markers. I have done research and have a couple gps marks for kingies now and will scout them out, but any reports of where others have caught recently would help out alot, I.e. are the kingies more in the harbour, or around the headlands, or close reefs etc. Thanks all.
  12. Scotty 1085 seems to be consensus the best for manual downrigging. Best deals are on ebay.com, not ebay.com.au, the US has cheapest ones.
  13. First report post. Got a new boat, put some gps coordinates in the sounder the day before and went out Sunday (3.04.2033). Lots of people on the red marker before the bridge, saw a couple hook onto kingies. Went to Port Jackson to have my first squidding session on a boat. First cast and I opened up the account with a nice size cuttlefish. No more after that so moved middle head and got a nice arrow squid. Was planning on just squidding but when I had two squid in the livebait tank couldn't resist trying around the headlands. Was pretty rough so headed back but saw one decent mark on the sounder that moved away pretty quickly. I've heard the harbour is firing with kingies from other post. Any tips/points on where about (i.e. before or after the bridge?) Going to get a downrigger this week to try Longreef soon aswell. Looking forward to more reports ✌️
  14. That is a bloody amazing story, fishing aside, tropical island hopping must be phenomenal. That is something I definately got to do in life.
