    New Boat

Hi finaddict I think this morning I suffered some sort of a mild stroke and I had forgotten that 3 years prior to selling it I actually traded the suzy for a new 70 Johnson, nothing was wrong with the outboard but since my boys where coming of an age where they wanted to come offshore with me I just changed it for reassurance and the trade in was excellent cheers

    New Boat

Hi finaddict when I bought my first boat it was a bfg with a 60 hp Suzy on the back, both 5 years old at that time my main concern was how good it is going to serve me not the resale value so like you had it checked all ok and I purchased the boat. It never missed a beat in 16 years that I had it and when I traded it in I received the $8500 I paid for it, as trade in, only because I really looked after her. I have seen boats only two years old mate that look like shit and there is no way those people are going to get much money for their boat. So if it suits what you want to do with it and it is in good nick go for it Cheers
  3. Hi mate I think Mr magoo is talking about the fisho's club at kyeemagh which was a good suggestion but if you are looking for anything permanent you would have to act as soon as you buy your boat because as far as I know there is a waiting list, and you must have proof of boat ownership before you can apply. It took me just over a year just to use the ramp but I have also heard that st george motor club charge a fraction of the fees that we pay. cheers
  4. Jim77 as far as I know the charts you are after are the admiralty charts that you can buy from most mapping stores there is one in the city and also wollongong I have been to both and have bought a couple in the old days to help me out and find the reefs and also take readings as you can get them in wgs 84 and transfer those waypoints to you gps Cheers
  5. Hi Diver, I have never trolled for flathead but if I where all I would do is use the sounder to see how deep the sand is and then find a deep diver that swims that deep in the water. Normally when you buy a deep diver I always check how deep they swim to suit my kind of fishing. Speed varies allot but from 6 knots upwards would be the go don't worry if you go to fast the deep diver will come to the surface so that is a sign to slow it down. I'm sure someone will kick in now and tell you what colours or brands they use, as I said never used them for flathead. One thing I will tell you though is sometimes you can buy deep divers that just don't swim well at all, so go for the good quality ones, $$$= good Cheers
  6. Mariner I also have been making my own reef anchors for the past ten years but instead of buying a length of pipe and filling with lead which I use to do, now I buy a length solid round steel and it does the job very well. I have also found that making the prongs shorter, no more than 6-8 inches long the anchor grips at a higher success rate then when they were longer. To be honest I anchor first throw no problem!! Anyhow hope this helps someone I'll post a picture if anyone would like to see it but will have to wait till next week as I'm on my way to Jervis bay tomorrow visit family and a quick fish Cheers
  7. I agree with Gregl that you should give the story in full about a product that you might have found faulty. Netic as a matter of fact I did remember reading that post and was looking for it about 2 weeks ago and I just could not find it. Perhaps in future when you are writing about a product and you have mentioned it in a previous post, you should at least put down the url so it can be checked out if someone has missed such a post. I Found the post more interesting this time as I was seeking such info as I have never used braid and I was playing with the idea of spooling an outfit with the product. Cheers
  8. Sorry to hear of your ailment Donna but I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time especially when you have Mr Swordie looking after you. Take care Cheers Joe
  9. Thx for your reponses , Jiggy after I did this post I found Precision Marine Bankstown on google. It is great to hear responses from past customers and that they are happy with the work. The damage is not great and very minor did they do the work promptly??? Thx again Cheers
  10. Hi all, a little while back I damaged my centre console I clipped a bridge as I was passing through at Woywoy I called my insurance and they told me to get a quote for the damage when I asked where, I was told to look in the yellow pages, who do I look for a shipwright?? If anyone has any past experience could do with the advise and leads Cheers
  11. Mate I don't have a Navman but there is no way that you can not enter waypoints into your chartplotter. The only way I can enter waypoints on mine is by taking a mark of anywhere and then I edit it with the waypoint that I have and give it a name. That is for a garmin 525 maybe you can do the same. No Manual?? Cheers
  12. Mate to be honest that outboard is 28 years old I think you would be lucky if you find a mechanic to touch it cause at that age outboards spell trouble for them and the customer just keeps on bringing it back cause it ain't right and becomes a never ending story. Hope I'm wrong but I know a couple of mechanics that just won't touch a motor that old Cheers
  13. Drummo the one thing that I do and so far so good, cause I'm the only one that never got snagged is as soon as I hit bottom I give the winch a few turns up to get it off the bottom and I still catch as much as everyone else Cheers
  14. Chewsta your mates are registered as associate members of the Australian volunteers coastguard association and yes you fill out a form with all your details which they keep on a national computer. I think last year was 30 dollars but I think dollars well spent for all the work these people do for free. Here is the link http://www.coastguard.com.au/membership.html just click on the Membership enquiry form and all you have to do is fill in your details and they will get in contact with you Cheers

    Gps Accuracy

Hi Kel before I did have a chartplotter I was using a gps which was accurate on most days to about a metre but when there is cloud cover and if it is thick it can change the accuracy by 50 metres. When the chartplotter came along and I did buy a mapping card I did find it very accurate but when going into some small channel and if I have the mapping is zoomed in sometimes you can see your boat on land but once I zoom out I'm back on water. Hope this might be of some help to you Cheers
  16. About three months ago I went to pay my associate annual membership fee port kembla flotilla and was told by the bloke on duty to hold on for a while as the Vhf test is being reviewed so that they can make it easier for everyone to achieve as the sylabus currently used is way to hard and unnecessary. Cheers
  17. Hi mate all you have to do is go to signarama if you go to their website there is a list of their shops in NSW. My son made mine up and I took a floppy disc down and had it done there and then in vinyl and still looking good 5 years later Cheers
  18. I have used the fish sauce and squid sauce often but not on sp's generally I pour some in the burly bucket every so often. I too discovered it while my wife was cooking, (Singapore) and saw the potential of using it as an attractant, now whether this has contributed to a better catch or not is debatable but it certainly hasn't hurt our catch rate. Cheers
  19. Hi Mate as far as I know a boat that size does not need to be registered unless you put an outboard that goes over 5 horse power or 10 knots Cheers
  20. Mate I don't think your in the market for a chartplotter at that amount of money I hope I'm wrong but for that price you are more looking at a gps or a hand held garmin with mapping perhaps anyhow good luck. I have a garmin chartplotter and to be honest their idiot proof!!!! very simple indeed Cheers
  21. Hi mate I have a garmin 525 it does say in the book not to use detergents on the screen so I just give it a spray of water while cleaning the boat, just to get any salt off the screen and then just give it a light wipe. Whatever they put on the screen is bloody fantastic and have no problems with sun trying to see whats on the screen so you would want to protect it as much as possible Cheers
  22. Hi Loco for a 525 the weather should be ok 10ks is not that far and conditions medium wind 10-15 will increase in the afternoon so if they have an early start should be back in way before 2pm. Cheers
  23. To be honest I think your flirting with future problems, these days cars are already pretty low especially the fords and holdens there is no way I would lower my ford bad enough as it is but if you have a light boat thats Half a ton only you might be right or perhaps airshocks if thats possible?? Cheers
  24. Stew I tried to give them up for 8 years with no success till I bought the chewing gum with nicotine and it worked for me but I was ready to give em up 40+ a day Cheers
  25. Well you know their not for human consumption sounds like a pkt of cigs but not many giving that up either!! Cheers
