  1. after taking the boat out on weds i think it is cavitation. it goes all sweet up till just before planing then it revs in and out. when it hits the plane all is sweeet again. and it get to a respectable 17 knots. but no matter how i trim it for him it still cavitates untill it gets to plaining speed. is this bad for the engine?
  2. After spending a few days in a research center, I thought "what better way to get over it than to go to Botany Bay with one of my friends on wednesday. Got to the ramp at about 10am to find a big crane barge pulling a juice truck from the murky depths and didnt get into the water till about 11. Anyway we headed over to watts reef to see what was around. Burley went in and drift was started. 2 rods 1 with running sinker and 1 with 60cm trace. my friend had 1 out with the trace. baits were nippers and prawns. 1.5 hrs go by and nothing except for a cuttle dropping at the boat, so i decided to get rid of the running job and tie a paternoster first cast and got smashed on the prawn. pulled up a nice 45cm flatty. Stayed there for a while till the jackets moved in and took a few rigs. We then moved over to the other side of bare island la perouse i think it is and started the drifts again. Pulled in a little pig ( my first one ever ) by then we ran out of nippers (damn pinkies ) so we started using the beach worms. put the rods out and got a nice big flounder. waited for about 30mins and got smashed by a really nice fish, lots of head shakes and some nice long runs. fight lasted for a good 4 mins on the 4 pound and up comes a 69cm lizard. Thats my biggest this year YAY. then all went quiet o we pulled the pin and went home. all in all a very slow day but the quality made up for the quantity. sorry about the phone pics. edit suburb name
  3. yer jewgaffer thats what it sounded like to me as well but i thought i would just put it out there for any other suggestions. i will be able to look at it on weds arvo and try to trim the engine. thanks for the replies
  4. Hi guys, just typing this up for a friend who has recently obtained a shiny second hand markham whaler. He has also just purchased a near new yamaha 40hp 2 stroke for it. When he took it out for the first run with the new engine he says it is fine in calm water but the second there is any chop it sounds/feels liek it is missing. Could this be just a trim problem or is it something worse? The engine when he got it had 2 hrs on the clock and the mixture was about 25:1 as recommended for the amt of hrs it had done. Also is this something that is usual for a twin hull with a centre mount motor. Thanks in advance Chris
  5. they are a very tasty fish even tho they are the ultimate pest.
  6. we tried the drifts near patonga and up near lion island for nothing this is where i got a good haul last week but the catfish were just a big waste of time. should have stayed in botany bay or the hacking today anyway thanks for the company today fezza
  7. i did mine at the maritime in kent street
  8. cool thanks for that, I am using quite a stiff carbon graphite rod but i also have a nice slow one that i like to use for whiting so i will give that a go next week
  9. thanks for the replies guys. but it already has owner hooks (trebles) and owner rings i know this because i put them on and yer i did find out about the snags. as far as the style of fishing i was flicking out and lifting the rod and letting it fall again for the bream, and the flatties was a smoother but quickretrieval.
  10. Hey guys/girls, just bought my first ever blade a couple of days ago and decided to give it a go yesterday and today. yesterday pickedup a 48cm flattie in the waranora (heaps of other fish on the bait i was using as well today I picked up a larger model at about 55cms or so drifting the front of the wonnie bubt wanted to go further upstream. drifted down from the foot bridge to the road bridges flickin at the pontoons when i get hit bigtime I think its a bream but its pulling drag at an alarming rate, drag was set to just over 1 kg. after a couple of mins ity throws the hooks only to attack the lure again and drop again after a min or so. when i get the lure back i see 1 of the owner hooks is bent out of shape. straightened it a bit but every hookup i got was lost probabley from the broken hook. has anyone else had problems keeping fish on these blade things?
  11. a plugfish is what holds the water in the ocean, like a bathplug
  12. Good afternoon all, After scanning the desperate and boatless classifieds yesterday I came across a likely victim in Fezza needing a fix on the old briney. After a quick call we organised a 5am start for today. 5am comes and all looks good so we head out to sylavnia t launch the old prawstar into the pre dawn gloom. as we hit the bay the sun shines through the clouds giving us a glorious start to the day. Got to the recommended spot at the 3rd runway in search for a jew and after an hour or so we give up and move to muli point. The swell was rolling in nicely so we found a spot, burlied, dropped a selection of gear ready for the kings/trevs/fish.... After losing a few baits on my small gear I manage to hook up to a plugfish (or so I thought ) so after a while I give up and cut the line meanwhile Leo and I constantly are using our baits to pickers. After about 40mins or so Leo also hooks a plugfish (he thinks) but after a while it unhooks and starts to slowly wind in.............. a bloody big occy, but an occy with a differance it brought its belongings with it (see pic ) and it also has my hook and line in it Finally we give up on muli point and Leo shows me where the hot water outlet is ( I had NFI where it was ) we sat there for a while but allI got was a big puffer fish ( no pic ) the we move back to muli point to see if the fish were awake, which after some sounding they were. First cast Leo hooks onto a just legal snapper. Iget its little brother. A little later Leo gets the bigger brother ( I get the little sister and her friend ) and thats about it for there as the swell was geting steep and large and we were both getting green around the gills. Off to maybe drift some flatties off the beaches ( no dice ) then he decision was made to use the last of the runout for a few drifts near the como. that landed us 1 legal whiting some big bites and lots of juvi whitings. Thanks for a great day out Leo Chris

    Bush Fires

Looks like the worst of it is over now thank God. Just the brothers house is gone and the rest look like they are ok for now But my heart goes out to those that lost loved ones. so far only 1 confirmed dead in Bendigo but there are still lots of areas ablaze.

    Bush Fires

I hope no one has anyone stuck in the fires either in NSW or in Vic. My brother just lost his house in bendigo fires and both my sister and mother look like they are about to lose theirs. if anyone else has any one in them I wish them the best. All I can say is at least they are safe atm, but looks like Bendigo is all alight. Good l;uck to all. Chris

  18. Mollineaux point is where the kings are, drop a squid also I agree with rob the bay gets very rough when there is a blow so oatley is the best spot then you have all the georges to get whiting flathead etc from. altho i am still only quite new to the whole boat thing as well.

I am still very nervous about ramps and finally went back to the sceane last week for the first time since it happened. Back is still really sore too
