GO THE TIGERS!!!!!!! sorry had to put that up!! lol well done tho!!
  2. how do u know this about the salt being diluted?? no research had been done before construction that im aware of. hahahaha.... yea at least this way they could sell the salt and make a profit. LOL
  3. awesome trip!!! jews and kings over one fishing trip.... cant complain!! hope the back gets better!! rest up for the next outing!!
  4. welcome! not a fisho in the harbour so cant help with the spots...... from reading where u fish sounds like the kingy areas. squid is my favourite bait for kings but yakkas are always my second option for kings if the squid are hiding. if you can pick up some slimies even better than yakkas. with regards to catching squid search for past posts...... i've seen heaps of people asking questions on catching them. and u can look up you tube. how are you fishing the live bait?? i suggest if ur anchored have one casted out away from the boat towards the burley trail.... with a medium sized sinker to be on the bottom but all depending on the structure at the bottom that your fishing, sus out the area with your sounder, u dont want headache snags!! if nothing happening there mix it up and have it floating in the burely trail with a lighter sinker. Drop another live bait under the boat and wrind up 1m off the bottom. Then drop a third under the boat mid to high water range.... like around 5m. kings arent as fussy as other fish so they could be right under your boat. Always helps to see the activity on the sounder...... if u see bait balls (on a basic sounder large amount of small dots and lager dots arounds it) then usualy would suggest kings around. so drop the livies around the bait. once hooked on.... HTF on!! lol good luck and tight lines!
  5. slinky, did u find that with the braid not being stiff like wire that the line has a curve in it as it travels through the water or anything??
  6. do you know the breaking strain on the braid?? 1.5kg isn't that heavy..... they should be 30lb+ braid. but if just anchored no drama's then!
  7. i've heard that braided curves in the water and may play up with your rod line, where as steel cable doesn't cause flex because of its obvious stiffness...... so it may cause problems on a higher idle but if u drifting over a jew hole dont see it can cause a problem.... give it a go and see what happens. all about trial and error. steel cable makes a bit of vibrating noise that may spook the jews...... i've only downrigged for kings. 1.5kg bomb may be a bit light for kings as strong currents can lift the bomb cause if needed to increase speed..... the bomb wont be sitting straight down under the boat and will be angled back of the boat, if u understand what i mean.
  8. jigging is alot easier on a boat...... wont be productive off the rocks. flicking lures from the rocks will be musch more productive! as for line..... heavier the better for the kings around rocks and reefs (especialy the bigger ones), they'll play dirty and bust you on the sharp edges. best methods for catching them off the rocks would be using live bait either yellowtail, slimies, squid, garfish (being favourite choice for kings) on a float stoping 2-3m from the bait. time of year most productive would be now till april/may. best time in the day will be first sun light but can be caught all day. have a look on you tube for vidoes from fishing adventures LBG (land based game).... tips for big fish off the rocks! look luck and tight lines!
  9. depends on the structure of the bottom your fishing??? if reefy and constantly changing depths stay slear of it. but in a flat area i've put it 2m off the bottom to be safe from snags and hooked up when the sounder has no activity. but i've also had it 5m under the boat when trolling the wall at botany....... so vary it up and 5 trolls low 5 high is the best advice i can say.
  10. HAHAHAHAHA..... how rumours and wife tales travel and change!!
  11. mate i've seen them up at putney in september this year!! so they do hang around for a while and travel that far
  12. kings should be around now the bait is around in large numbers
  13. poetic??? haha..... im sure you wrote a few to your misses in your time!! haha well done on the catch!!
  14. got the kings between 8-10 if i can remember. haha..... wasn't u landing the port jackson as i was bringing in a king was it? i use the down rigger. where i fish is very reefy so heavy line is necessary for the big kings. tried getting squid but was they weren't about so used live yakkas. cheers Nick
  15. thanks guys!! i did a search but bloody didn't come up..... technology! haha
  16. anyone collect the jewels out of the jewfish head?? is it only in the big ones or in all jewies?? and where is it?? cheers nick
  17. thanks guys for the replies. hopefuly pick up that big contract!! haha yea berries were my junior club under 13-14. too many greeks but...... hahaha. is Bill stil the convenor there???? he's a made offshore fisho..... he's crazy! what jewgaffer is saying is right on the money!! he knows his rivers systems! just get the sounder out and drive slowly around and find the drop offs or even take notice with any eddies and swells you see on the strong currents..... generaly a structured bottom..... jewies!
  18. This may be my last report as im heading off to Greece for soccer trials on wednesday. so took the advantage of the calmness in the weather and thought gotta fish for the last time in at least a year in aussie waters. Jew so my first report is on the jews from last avo/night and being a tide change just on sun down thought perfect to hit the jews...... misses taged along. Went to my favourite little spot near como and produced this little model real early in the session.... just on 45cm released to grow much larger. Had plenty of hits but no hook ups..... def not pickers as the bait was still in tact...... so would have been smaller jews..... good thing to see. At 8.30 had a nice run and landed a 50cm jew. By 9:30 things were quiet so decided to use up the bait in a spot i've never fished but seen plenty of boats there....... when looking out of my bedroom window the spot is 300m away. so close and never fished it..... funny that. Its has a nice drop off and thought should hold a jew or 2....... which it did. Within 15min the rod buckles over......zzzzzzz........ZZZZZZZZ...... yeeeeaa giddy up some weight in this fish!! 75cm. as soon as the fish came into the boat the bait runner takes off........ ZZZZZZZZZ....... the misses was quick to pick it up and brought in. She was so excited!! picture messaged from her phone to all her friends. home by 11. Kings headed out at 6 to test the tackle on the botany kings on the downrigger.... on my lonesome this time. Squid were no where to be seen...... water was very merky....... thats my explanation. So off to moli point and picked up some yakkas. First bait down and within 50m or trolling ZZZZZZZZZZZ....... yea!!! slow battle and landed 75cm. long story short landed 4 kings between 70-80cm....... kept 2 and released 2. water temp is still cool 15-16C surprisingly there were lots of boats out!!! dont people have jobs???? hahahaha... was anyone else in the bay?? Cheers Nick
  19. gabe from gabes tackle has told me he's caught them up there... i didn't believe it but u just proved him right!! hahaha
  20. haha..... very true!! you know big hand means big .................... yea it is a very strange system for me to be fishing in! haha..... my mate lives on the water at gladesville and we both didn't have work so we hung out on the water.
  21. well done mate!! looks like the spots we fished the other week! there are some nice bream around there!!
  22. yea would have been over. was fat. #3 wriggler. yea really wanted to eat it! on the drop noticed hits and thought "shit more taylor" then quick winds and he smashed the wriggler.
  23. bit of a late post but went out last friday on my mates boat in the para river flicking for flatties and bream. although lost a heap of my tails on the plastics to the damn taylor we did find the bream hiding amougst the taylor. caught a just legal bream over at breakfast point then moved around to the moored boats in putney. second cast and landed this nice blue nose not measured but would have been easy 35-40cm. all fish were caught on squidgy wrigler flash prawn using 1/20 jig head. drifted towards the shore and was on again to a nice flatty..... had it next to the boat when the flatty did its head shake and the 4lb leader went snap...... nice easy release. all fish released..... not too sure about eating from the para river...... i'll giv it a few more years at least. tight lines!!! Nick
  24. any usual squid spots that u see here in previous squid threads. lili pilly baths, wallys wharf, the north sydney jetties. give rose bay a go. good luck and write up a report when u use it...... u could make a bit of cash on the new toy! nick
