  1. hey guys i own a savage ospray..... whose who do not know its similar to a quintrex. now i want to convert a section from the side storage of the boat to a slide out draws for tackle gear and lures etc..... i wasn't sure how i should go about this and i dont think that any tackle box will work so i'll have to get one custom made. where would i be able to get one made up from? has anyone done this project before? if u want pictures to get a better idea let me know. any help would be much appraciated. thanks nick
  2. haha..... tips..... read reports and other great info been posted. boat or land based? good luck getting first jew
  3. here's a dodgy phone pic.
  4. can't go without squid! downrigging. can't give away the spots cause then all the boats will shit me to death!! but if u know your bay well u'll find them! there was some thing in the paper about the dredging and the chemicals being sturred up in the bay around silver beach a few months ago...... any news on that??? bay getting dirty again?? shit yea!! always check em!!! im telling everyone else to do it but the silly teacher fails! hahaha
  5. quick report unfortunaly no pics. headed out to the bay..... on my lonesome. landed 1m king and 75cm king..... and 3 bust offs. one of them being next to the boat on the surface which was around 1m again. one advice i can give any angler is after every fish u catch make sure u check line and knots...... after landing 2 kings i noticed my knot a bit loose. thought she'll be right..... but thats how u loose a king on the surface. noticed on the runout tide water was unusally merky....... not cause of the rain but i think because of the dredging they doing. hope doesn't effect the bay! happy fishing!!
  6. mate thats one thing that shits me most about fishing in the bay are those people that anchor next to u like 2 metres away...... THE BAY IS HUGE!!!! WHY NEXT TO ME??? or when they drive past without any idea of where your lines would be..... not that they give a shit i think. i also dont think they know their boat rules anyway. well done on the bream!!! winter produces some great breams!
  7. keen as mustard!!! well done mate!
  8. nah just outside around north head....... i think maybe called cape banks??? i have a Savage osprey 550. yea the old man was pretty happy...... dirty bastard is now saying i need him to catch big fish..... hahaha. cheers esky but he can be annoying as fathers are.... haha. when u taking a day off to come out?
  9. gotta move around but found them yara bay
  10. no secret on bait as one of best bait to use is live calamari....... bigger the bait bigger the king. nah not really out wide northern head of botany bay...... i live in the bay so i never venture to the harbour.
  11. unlucky mate! depends on bait freshness, line weight..... etc..... dont always go for the spots where all the other boats are. i fish the bay heaps without luck and catch fish no dramas. try the sand flats next time.
  12. took advantage of this great weather and took the old man out to get some kings. said to him we'll hook up on some great fish...... but he didn't know what was coming for him. bait was slow but moved around and eventually found them. dropped the first bait at around 8ish. minutes later rob buckles over and line goes loose.... shit missed him..... left the line in and started winding the down rigger back up.... and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ we on!!! came up with a 90cm king. second bait down and on again within no time to this hoodlum my old man brought in. HUGE pb for him on the kings.... weight was 11kg. eager to score more kings dropped the other baits down. finshed with another 2 kings around 80cm and busted off on another king which felt like a hoodlum. get day on the water!! nick
  13. fishing marine parks yes but im not going to support non fishing marine parks.... i love my fishing. if u wouldn't bother then it would be beneficial then to have it...... others who fish for fun and catch and release will prob fish in those areas. hence the improvement in numbers of stock. yea keep a small bounty but not a bucket bounty....... catch for a feed for the family not for the army. tell me an average family of four maybe only eat a fish each..... depending on size??? when i fish for kings i'll only keep 1 for a feed. but catch and release the rest. maybe its a matter of reducing the bag limits........ what is it 20 for bream or something around there??? tell me tho if u reach that bag limit you'll have food for at least a month. and if u go out more than that in a month multiply the amount of other boats and thats the dramatic effect...... so maybe reduce bag limits. i fish for the fun majority of the time and not necessarily for food.
  14. just seen this!! opps vote is in! i believe that there should be more than just this marine park. in those areas only catch and release, and to enforce this have regular fishery inspections in and around those areas. This year i've fished every second day almost and only seen the fisheries 4 times. their stronger present will make people abide by the rules and help the fish stocks. give out fines for illigal acts!! not too sure but im assuming the funding for the fisheries is lacking. if thats the case give the waterways and police the duristiction to check fish and give out fines. i've seen them out alot more only checking licences tho. also the construction of this de sal plant in the bay is def not going to help..... government should have done more testing before construction..... an area im pissed off about! fish stocks have improved in the bay since the stopping of the trawlers!!
  15. hahahaha..... im guessing he wont be eating squid or yellow tail anymore after his experience with a bad taste........ try a taylor fillet or mullet and see if he tries that next time
  16. i've caught 4 jews at the bridge one night with the misses and it was PISSING down. if its windy give it a miss but if its just rain head to the bridge! give it a go and prove the critics wrong i say!
  17. yea i know a few..... pm me and i'll tell u where i go
  18. down rigged today moulli point picked up few under sized kings, 1 @ 70cm and lost a big king. would have been close or over 1metre. i tried driving him away from the reef into the channel but fish was too powerful and got to the rocks before i could gain line on him. came back with my 40lb trace frayed. all fish caught on live squid and yakkas. most interesting sight for the day was seeing a seal swimming around... never seen one in the wild. at first from a distance thought is was a diver. another boat i drove by said he had been swimming around his boat for a while. i guess goes to show that the bay is really cleaning up.
  19. interesting post. i fish for my squid around la parouse in the kelp. i have caught a few around captain cook. there is kelp on the taren point side of the bridge. one night fishing for jews, there was alot of splashing from taior and herring. noticed a few weird movements..... threw a jig and i was on. it was around early summer when you see the splashing around the lights and off the pylons. interesting as i was thinking the other day about whether or not you will find squid in ribbon weed around kernel to towra?? anyone tried??
  20. first time i used local squid cause sydney markets lacked in squid. i find the moon doesn't help too much mainly i think cause the full moon brings in the bigger tides hence lazy jews go bit quiet. i'll pm ya soon hey Brian! how ya been? i havn't been on the forum much. yea i've been out heaps during the late winter months and starting up again now the kings are going quiet. i'll be going on friday morning downrigging for kings hoping to see if they still in the bay. send me a text when ur fit and well again to come out on the boat.
  21. thanks i'll giv it a go. so would u say as slow as you would for squid??
  22. few tips needed. i've been starting to get into lure fishing and move away from bait and find not having any problem with catching flathead. one species i want to start hooking up to are bream. i've only managed 2 on small hard bodies. i hear they are a bit more finiky and spook easier. so whats the best way to reduce this? lighter leader (how light?)?? when using jig heads with plastic how light?? let the soft plastic sink to the bottom before retrieval? long pauses or short? smaller and less aggressive flicks with the rod?? slow retrieve when using hard bodies? assistance would be great! thanks guys!
  23. been a while since i posted a report but i've been out on the water every second day..... can't complain fishing instead of work. decieded to take the advantage of not having training last night and the turn of the tide being around 7:40pm. caught fresh squid that afternoon and went to my favourite jew spot near como bridge where it as only failed me once. the tide went dead and the fish became active. managed 5 small jews on the 50cm mark, all thrown back to be caught again. unfortunally missed another 3 as they didn't hook up. water was so glassy lastnight..... the one thing i love about fishing jews on a week night is no boats around and the water is still. i've been taking note and last 2 weeks i've been out i've only scored jews around the 50cm size. late winter last year average size i was getting was 3-6kg mark. im suprised how JFK is catching big jews not far from where i am..... seem to think they havnt quite made the trip down river yet. interesting to see the pattern of the jews in the georges. next outing i'll try further up river to captian cook bridge. one of the little fellows caught.
  24. gee good to see heaps of people who have anger to this! i'll give that number a call now i know it! no joke i've never been checked by fisheries!! i live on the georges river and have fished for many years. fished the bay at least twice a week, and have been doing that for the past year. my old man has been checked for licence once when fishing bald face point. is it a problem of not enough fisheries officers patroling?? or lack of funding? if thats the case then why dont the water police start to enforce the fishing laws?? almost everytime im out on the water the police have done saftey checks and boat licence checks. why dont they while doing those inspect the fish too????
  25. prob the same guy i seen and talking about in my post i just wrote up yesterday! it makes me sick!!
