  1. there has been rat kings around cooks river lately...... just at the entrance where the man made rocks are, bridge and the old mored boats...... would be worth having a quick trolled or flick there on your way out from the boat ramp. first light would be best so earlier than 7 i say. yakkas can be caught at moli point....... slow troll along the wall from where the green pole till you come around the point (usual around 159- 155.... you will see the numbers printed on the wall) ...... once you find the bait (heaps of little dots on the sounder, depending on the sounder) drop down a bait jig. squid can be caught all the way to the end of the wall..... u will see the kelp bed.... yakka's can also be caught there by burlying up heaps. i've found that where ever you find bait on the sounder down rig the yakka or squid above, below and through the bait until u hook up. im hoping to try get out on saturday..... good luck and tight lines
  2. nothing new to the georges..... so they say across from deep water is the breeding area for bull sharks. i've never seen em but water ways officers seem to say they have.
  3. i agree with these comments. especially this: But its all learnign and experience, you more you fish the more you knwo the area and learn when places fire and when they dont. so tell them a rough area and up to them to figure it all out. i've found a spot where i've been getting kings all year round, even got spooled last monday, and ive fished around this reef and not hooked up as i have in this section..... and sure loads of boats fish the same area but im not going to say excact depth and excactly where i've been getting them unless i know u..... i'll be glad to say times caught and bait and general region..... with all the info try it out and see what happens.... its how i learnt.
  4. yea good idea on this but to be honest it will shit me if i see someone fishing in my favourite squid spot taking all the bait....... and most know that its a pain in the ass sometimes to find bait. personally i think give ALL the info in the world and generalised discription on where to target the species (for example squid in kelp areas or kings love structure and around lots of bait.... not exact markings.....) remember its half the fun trying to find them..... i dont want every man and their dog where i fish.
  5. pencil me in with a mate. hopefully i'll be available to get out!
  6. like what huey said the check the rectiifer/regulator because since my batteries havn't been charging my rev gauge hasn't been working either. if you dont know what the rectifer is... its like the alternater of a car.
  7. guys i've noticed that just off la perouse on the south western side that there is some sort of work going on?? they have put a radius of yellow boys that dont allow boats to travel through and some dive boats with guys wearing trade uniform. any info on what they doing???
  8. nah mate i've still been getting kings around the bay.... the water has been clearer. maybe its been a bit poor due to the work for the desalination shit
  9. hahaha.... thats funny!!!! yea its pretty shallow there..... idiots should know better when driving a larger boat. i've seen that boat mored at the motor boat club
  10. i've the seal around the container wall..... interesting that its moving down the river. unlucky not scoring any kings around the container wall..... they still there tho in small numbers. i was out today and trolled around the north head of botany and picked up a few small kings and lost 1 good king.
  11. great work mate!!! tops!! get out there and hit the kings!! only down side i feel is the deck wash..... personaly i hate salt water cause it F@#ks everything..... i prefer as little salt in the boat as possible. so using a hose with salt water to wash parts of the boat means heaps more washing once the boat is out of the water to make sure its out from the corners especially in an alluminum boat. well done again! nick
  12. great info and is what i was wandering! thanks heaps Byron! now a matter of getting out there and putting the theories to test or when the wind starts to pick up (im sure no one wants to pack up and go home) chase and find the fish! nick
  13. so basically its about comfortability and obviously fishing with the wind going against the current makes fishing tough. So from the saying southerly winds makes fish lazy and have to put the bait in front of their nose....... making fishing tougher. but overal wind doesn't dramaticaly effect the fish as greatly as said just wives tales??? and more to do with barametric pressure influences turning fish off.
  14. hahaha....... slighlty off topic but why do u say the cat is inbred??? hahaha
  15. next time try dropping a yakka jig to see what the bait is then u could have a rough guess what the bigger fish were. what was the temp of the water? if the kings are there in the hacking they'll be chasing the bait around so cant say why they wouldn't be around the bait you saw. sending down a slimy would have been better bait for a king. agree with jewgaffer maximise your chance of scoring different species using different sized baits.
  16. tough one....... how can u take something back that doesn't have a date or anything..... i guess its all to do with the consumer act crap "buyers beware". if u want it fresh dont trust a fish shop unless u know them personally...... i went to get squid and i can tell when its fresh or when its not..... when i asked is it fresh they said yes very fresh.... was not at all!!! goes to show cant trust them too often.
  17. i havn't tried it but cant really comment.... but in theory should be fine with a hook...... giv it a go and if it causes problems then take the hook off.
  18. before i bought a down rigger i used the poor man technique. use a snapper lead on the swivel with a long trace..... u can also use as mention a knife jig. the only problem with this way is that u dont know the exact depth the bait may be. just be alert the depth changes cause u can snag up and have headaches. caught heaps of kings with this method...... caught loads more with a down rigger..... money well spent. slow troll with pauses for a few seconds keeps it deeper. sounder is ur best friend when chasing kings. look for the bait and they will be around. dont have to be heaps close to the rocks.... look at structure on the bottom.... biat will be close to the white wash and kings will be lurking around that..... but dont be stupid and get dangerously close. so be safe when trolling he head lands.
  19. hey guys now i think this could be a good thread starter and a few theories may be thrown in here. the main idea to this thread is to find out which wind effects fish and why?? my old man said dont bother trying to catch fish when the wind is a southerly....... i've also heard other comments by a marlin fisho who said if there has been a westerly wind in the past week dont waiste your time hunting for marlin. i've also heard that the mullet run starts on the first westerly in April..... if the westerly doesn't blow will the mullet run still occur.... when i fish for bream and a strong wind is blowing i try and find a bit of cover where the water isnt so windy, only because the wind makes it a pain when casting especially when the current is in opposite direction to the wind. In saying that i've caught more bream in choppy waters than calm waters....... my theory is that the windy waters make more cover for bait fish and allow them to be active which means bream and other fish will be out from the weeds and into the open chasing bait. For the beach fishos on the east coast they would rather not fish on an easterly wind because casting can be a headache. personally i cant say wind direction has been a factor to why i havn't caught fish. i feel barometric pressure and water temp are the factors that send fish in a frenzy or not. im no weather man but does certain winds have a relationship with baro pressure and is this why??? post up your theories and ideas. will be interesting to see reasons. cheers nick
  20. i heard that the kings were lurking around brighton groins....... 2 weeks ago. well done on the a quiet day
  21. WELL DONE CHAMP!!!!! cant go wrong with the baits you had out!! now u have the king addiction keep getting em!!! thats great to see them in the hacking still..... must be chasing the gars that are coming in..... i wouldn't be surprised for the bay fishos to pick them up around woolaware bay. was that at wally's??? nick
  22. thats a good idea! may do it for extra storage for next project. wont use it for tackle as will be annoying always bending down and reaching under the seat for....... where as in the side i can sit and just reach to the left.
