    Swr

Hey all, Heading up to south west rocks in late feb and was wondering if anyone can recomend some good charters/guides up there. Id rather stear clear of the larger boat pack em in style charters. Looking for more of a local guide that does estuary and offshore work. any info much appreciated thanks guys
  3. I read somewhere that the large amount of fresh water that comes out of the hawkesburys upper reaches everyday tends to put the pelagics off abit and they might not be as prolific as in places places like the harbour where the fresh water catchments are smaller and the water clearer. But the jewies have always liked environments like the hawkesbury and have had it over the harbour in numbers. Saying that pittwater still fished well for kingfish but the pros are having a negative effect on it. Since the pros left sydney harbour, last season was hailed as the best run of kingfish that anyone could remember. Coincidence?.This year the size limit was upped to 65cm for kings and people were worried that the majority of fish would have to go back. What they have found this season is the average size of fish caught is way up and that 65cm limit is not an issue plus the numbers are there like the previous season. I was out the habour on the weekend and the kings were literally everywhere. To top it off the harbour is now fishing better than ever for jewfish, probably better than the hawkesbury. It cops alot of pressure from rec fisherman but the system handles cause we dont take more than we need.(most of us anyway). The effect of all those rec fishos is not a nat on a dogs dick as opposed as the pressure commercial fishing puts on a system. Pittwater suffered before the harbour pros had to move there. I remember reading an article in the manly daily afew years ago about pros complaining it was hardly worth it being a commercial fisherman in pittwater cause it was getting so barren. Gee i wonder why?
  4. Mate, The broken bay fad is not there, the next one up the coast is, i think this is the terrigal one your talking about.
  5. Hey all, Was just reading an article by Al Mcglashan on how the bigger dolphin fish are usually caught trolling open water so i thought i'd post this pic of one we caught on my mates boat last weekend doing just that. Was caught inside of the broken bay fad which isnt there any more anyway! Anyone else finding them out there?

Hey all, Any electrical sounder smart dudes may be able to help me with this one. Ive read alot about the furuno fcv-585 in the fishing media and in these forums and it seems a great unit, but apart from the size whats the main diff? ( in laymans terms ) to the fcv-620 ( the model under it ), its half the price . Any info appreciated oldsalty
  10. "saturday night jewfish jam" with Will Smith is a good one.
  11. wtf .........Thats insane! Is that at all regular?
  12. Gday mate, U will pretty much catch flatty's all over the lake but some areas can be lifeless. Anywhere there is abit of weed and structure like the bridge or a sandbank or drop off are good. If u explore u will find heaps of these areas. There are some huge weedbeds that drop off into deep water just past that island as u get into the back of the lake.Shallow water is good too. I like green lures at around 100mm to find decent sized fish plus there are afew jewies in the lake u may find aswell. We snorkeled from the mouth to past the boat ramp at the caravan park afew times and saw plenty of flattys buried in the sand. Last week we saw one near the mouth facing the curent half buried in full stealth mode next to where the rocks meet the sand. U could hardly see him. He was huge, prob 80-90 cm. We disturbed him and he snaked off. IT was pretty cool!.
  13. U put squid jig on the downrigger crazy john?
  14. thats a beast! good to know they are in the harbour. Hope i find one like him one day.Tks for showing us all.
  15. I agree with dan and greg too mate, i have my baitrunner on one of these rods. They are not too pricey and can take a beating.
  16. thats an awesome looking fish, must have been a surprise to bring that in. Would look great in an aquarium.
  17. well done guys Still a nice couple of fish! I headed out on sunday and also found it slow. Spent ages trying to catch some decent sized squid as we were only finding little ones. Managed one king just under legal size in the main harbour then dragged a squid through middle harbour on the way home for a donut. Highlight of the day was probably the flathead i caught on my squid jig!
  18. Looks like u had a great day out. How did u rate the charter ?

Thanks guys, this info is helping a great deal. When u say the thru hull is the way to go if installed correctly does this mean instalation is tricky as in would my dealer know how to do it right? The 600w should be fine for me , heres what bonzer imports has to choose from; 1. 520-5psd plastic thru-hull transducer, 600w ( 10pin ). 2. 525t-bsd bronze thru-hull trasnducer with temp, 600w ( 10pin ). 3. 520-5msd bronze thru-hull transducer, 600w ( 10pin ). 4. 525st-msd bronze thru-hull multi sensor with high speed fairing block, 600w ( 10PIN). any idea which one to go? If it helps it will be installed on a tabs territory pro 485. thanks dudes, appreciate the help
  20. The little quintrex hornet we fish out of is a nightmare in those conditions. Standing on the casting deck is like riding a mechanical bull! trying to fight a kingy at the same time is quite tricky
  21. It probably took about 5 min to get in. Thats on 50lb braid and a near locked drag.
  22. HEy all, Nice calm morning to head out this morning from middle harbour. where the water was very brown. Highlights were a nice cuttle fish while squidding and my mate trev scored his first kingy! well done mate At 90 cm he was an excellent first fish and the biggest king my boat has seen. He didnt come in easily though and trev looked a little worn out after the fight! We also scored two more in th 75cm range and a rat with the cuttlefish being the prefered bait. And out of 5 crab pots we didnt manage a single crab
