    Furuno

hey all, Im looking at these furunos and wondering which transducer i require? Ive allways had transom mounted as opposed to thru hull, is this the way to go? With the 585 u have the choice of the 600 watt or the 1000 watt transducer, whats the difference there? thanks guys any info much appreciated
  2. Thanks guys .................... awesome info! ill see how i go.
  3. sounds good, u guys got any pics of ur flatty's lately?
  4. Hey all, Im in the market for a new sounder and gps and was wondering how you guys go about purchaseing them. Im thinking about buying from an overseas website and getting it shipped over to save afew bucks but am worried about it getting damaged as i will be spending around 1500 seems risky. How do u guys buy your electronics? appreciate any replys
  5. lol, what gear does kelvin use to target flatties that can also stop a 93cm king!
  6. Looks like a fun mission u had despite the weather!Nice work may i ask what sort of sounder is that?
  7. The kings over there arent as fussy as sydney kings and will happily chase all lures and wolf down frozen chunks of pink packet squid, wish it was like that in sydney!
  8. Nice work! i went out on sunday avo and scored a big fat hairy zero!
  9. Not to take anything away from squidlips effort on a great fish, but for the guys who are heading down that area or think its strange for jews up there this time of year, that fish was caught about 2 years ago in winter.
  10. wow! nice bream...............I heard of people fishing at a place in upper rosy called "jew rock". Must be some jewies there...........
  11. Nice catch! i saw u guys at the pontoon and ur mate gave me a peek in the esky well done!
  12. gday mate, I lived on lord howe for a while when i was a kid and thats what got me interested in fishing so ive been back afew times over the years aswell. It truly is an awesome place and as roberta said get out with a guide if u can afford it. I went out with gary crombie afew times over the years and would highly recomend him. Try to avoid some of the handline charter boats aswell. Standard lbg methods apply over there. I wouldnt go under 24kg but some truly big fish are a real possibility so dont be afraid to go heavier. Also a light 2-3 kilo outfit to catch gars which are usually the prime kingy bait over there. While ur weighting for a live bait to go off u can amuse urself with other species at ur feet! U can catch huge silver drummer everywhere on LHI on un weighted pieces of bread aswell as trevallys, bluefish, salmon and many more. Also an unweighted crab might get u a double header which are unique to LHI and an awesome table fish. I'd use a solid 10-15 kilo threadline outfit for these which would also double for tossing metals at bait-bird activity. A gaff and a net that can be used off the stones is a must. U can hire them at thompsons store if u dont take them over with u. Places like old gulch, new gulch, clear place, rocky run and even off the sand at the base of the mt gower and lichbird are all great but they all require a bike ride then a walk through the bush so pack as light as u can. Even the jetty produces good fishing! Visit neds beach where u can swim with and feed fish like gars, mullet, whiting, reef fish, huge trevors, huge salmon and drummers and serious 30 kg kings in a couple of feet of crystal clear water. Realy is a one in a million.. 3 outfits should have u covered. Also the guides are happy to direct u on rock fishing options on days when ur not on a charter. Check out oblivienne #####ings sight for details. I wish i was going with you! please bring back some pics.
  13. yeah mate i remember, i had the same problems with the taylor, they mangled afew of my squid, when i brought one up about 5 hungry choppers followed it to the surface.
  14. on ya mate..........nice work. People always are suprised when u take them out in the harbour by how beautiful it is. They think fishing in the harbour means dropping a line next to container ship at a loading dock!
  15. looks to be another good season on the kings! Do u guys rate the cuttlefish as good kingy bait? i never used it
  16. hey all, Anyone know any good spots for crab pots in the lake? ie font of the lake or back of the lake, appreciate ur replys oldsalty
  17. Hey hook'm, Nice work on the "guiding" , haha , i know the feeling. U get em in middle harbour? They seem to be a bit sporadic but they are of a decent size atm.
  18. Hey all, Headed out this morning to see what we could find. Things had cleaned up after all last weeks rain and the weather was beautiful. Heres how it went.................... got out just before sunrise and past many boats jigging for squid at the spit. We were also after squid but looked elsewhere for them. We were having trouble finding them and getting agitated when my mate said he was onto a donkey of a squid! we were surprised when this guy came aboard, "do they squirt ink?" someone said , "i dont think so", my mate picked it up and it sat there like a pile of sludge looking almost dead, we all peered at it for a while untill it contracted slighltly and let go of the biggest load of ink and slime i ever did see! all over my mate and all over the carpet. I put him in the well and he put his candles around the pump and everything overloaded and we blew a fuse and all power on board was gone,, now it was no more pumps and no more sounder, bloody cuttlefish. we kept trekking and eventually found some squid, stopped for breakfast then headed into middle harbour to find some kingys maybe. Lost alot of squid to tailor on the downrigger which was a bit annoying. We eventually found some action, At 73cm he wasnt a bad fish but again was the only king we found all day. He was a pb for my mate so he was pretty stoked. called it quits on the kingys and went for a flatty spin as the tide dropped and managed one 40cm model on a gulp before heading in. also went and retrieved the crab pots that we set in the morning. One had a blue swimmer and the other had one hanging onto the bait from the outside of the net that let go at the surface. a mixed bag was the end result, Also we threw some cuttlefish ink and guts in the water at the roseville cleaning tables, as a cloud of ink spread a massive school of bream were lurking under it eating the scraps, there were some huge ones amongst them. nice day out all in all but is anyone having more luck with the kings at the moment? appreciate ur replys cheers oldsalty
  19. Nice work guys, good to see the kings at dobroyd again!
  20. Hi roosterman, I think i saw u out there. I was the guy in the hornet with his mum who asked if "ya getting any?" u replied, " its very quiet", U were downrigging at the start of the morings heading for the spit, i think i had a white singlet on, was about 9 or 10 am. Things definately were quiet that day! Thats quite a mission getting out there at midnight, impressive. I know what u mean with the downrigger, oneday i was trolling around the point just past quarantine and was playing with my phone and heading for the shore without knowing it, as i got closer to the shore the bomb got snagged and nearly ripped the unit off the gunnel. After afew manouvres i realised i was snagged good and could see a nice set looming up as there was a fair swell that day that was approaching to propel me into the rocks as i was allready nearly on the shore. I scambled, found some scissors, cut the wire and floored it out of there, Phew! Thank god i found those scissors.Lost a bomb but kept a boat!
