  1. Good work there mate. Good fish. Been a while coming!
  2. We will be out there Monday chasing blues. Call sign black'n'blue. Looks good out there, jumped 1 off last Wednesday. Good luck
  3. Trolling Thursday if anyone wants a trip out? Seafarer victory 6m, 175 etec. All gear supplied. Send me a message if your keen
  4. I had a calstar Baja stroker custom made in the USA, delivered for $600. Winthrop guides and the only genuinely 80lb stand up bent but from Alentucos. Can't remember the details of the blank number, but the communication from the builder was excellent. I emailed him the details of a build I wanted from the details off his web site. Basically, after a bit of back and forth of what I wanted, what gear I use, what species I am after, he told me the rod I needed, so I just went with it. I was able to send over decals and get my boat name hand painted under the varnish. Could not get the parts over here for the price, but back then we were getting better than parity with the dollar. Have not caught anything on it as yet, had it for 2 seasons. Hopefully this year, number 3 will be its lucky number and we will get attached to something to give it a work over. Till then , the jury is still out on this one. Cheers
  5. Hi Mat. I fish out of a trailer boat and don't use wind on's. Some people love em, but found they are not for me. I run a 4m double to a quality snap swivel and have all my lures rigged to a 4m trace on the lures. One day I will lose a tailed wrapped fish but I don't think my odds of hooking a beaky big enough to be longer than the 4m is that good. I believe that rig on 24 is still IGFA legal. It has brought me unstuck fishing solo with no one else on board to trace the fish in for de hooking and I have had issues gaffing tuna. Once had a tuna take of with half a wrap on the leader in one hand and ripped the glove off, cut into my finger tips and bust off. So not all good but still my preferred rig. I'm sure there are lots of other options from people with more experience than me. And hopefully they will post up some options and help us all. Cheers
  6. Thanks for the info. A no fish report is very helpful in the blue water. Appreciated and better luck next time. I think I'll wait for a change in the currents and a shift in that down welling. Cheers.
  7. Anyone over there trolling those little bullets alive for a nice blue?
  8. We fished from the 500 towards Heatons, turned NE at Heatons went round 8nm from there, done a bit of circuit work on an area holding bait for a couple of hours then trolled back to the 500 SE of Browns for 0's. The conditions were quite lumpy out wide and I thought that may help produce a bite. That's two 12 hour days for me this week for no result. That's fishing.
  9. They obviously check out the fishing posts as they shot off Sydney Monday night where the hot bite was happening Monday day.
  10. Got em last year in 20.5 water. Multiple hook up with the first fish a 1m dollie and next 3 fish all BFT all hooked up within 10 seconds of each other. So who knows, gotta get out and look.
  11. If your out there tomorrow target Marlin. Lots of small stripe tuna about. The blues must be snacking on those. We went 0-0-0 for the day, but more marlin than tuna from the radio chatter
  12. Very nice mate. On both the house and the fish. Good luck on the move.
  13. Well that sux. Who would have thought that US politics can have an effect on my fishing?
  14. How far south? We may get out Tuesday after family duties all weekend.
  15. Been listening to the radio, channel 21, whilst doing some work in the yard. Sounds like a good day out there, can't wait to see the photos of some of these tuna!
  16. I certainly think Sydney offers great game fishing opportunities for a lot of species. Wahoo in summer, blue fin in winter and all species that fit in between those two species preferred water temps. The other thing about Sydney is the amount of fishing effort that goes in. The water is getting a good look at every weekend, so as soon something shows up in the currents, there is enough effort going in to find them. Nothing gets missed. Lets hope the beakies show up in numbers this year, we really struggled last season. So in short, game fishing off Sydney, opportunities are always there, awesome!
  17. No fin for us. Managed a small Mako whilst cubing. Found the bait and birds bombing in 200fa just over the shelf inside the southern canyons. Had bait showers but did not see a tuna. JB canyons look good on rip charts.
  18. Damo, We were the first boat at the mark at 6.30am and had the whole area to ourselves for an hour or so. We were actually heading wider at 25kn when we spotted the birds and bust ups. Both our hook ups were prior to 7.30am. So yes we were away from the pack, well the pack arrived later anyway and they were still boat shy. I am thinking maybe get out early and move around at speed as the sun is coming up and look for the birds and just drift live baits, no burley. Similar theory to live baiting for long tails of the rocks! Just gotta hope they swim past and smash your bait
  19. Seen hundreds of fish from small to absolute barrels busting up all morning, then went quiet and started busting up again in the arvo. Seen them busting up just off the shelf on the way home in 200fa as well. So they are widespread. Very frustrating day. Hooked 2 early and pulled the hooks on both. Very very very boat shy!
  20. We will be out tomorrow 600-1000fa east of browns down to canyons and back up north during arvo. Call sign 'black'n'blue' on 21. Good luck boys. Looks like a nice day for a boat ride regardless of the fishing!
  21. We fished Heatons out of the old seafarer victory 6.0m with a 175 e tec on Thursday and Saturday. Used around 165lt of fuel each day, out of a 200lt tank. So that's testing it's range, but weather has been awesome. Glad others found the radio crap on Saturday, as it had me a little concerned for a while. Was crystal clear Thursday. As for tuna, not sure we are going to see another run of blue fin within trailer boat range, I'm thinking we may get a little run of small 5-15kg YFT when the warmer current out well wide comes in over the next month.
  22. After a great day Thursday we returned out to Heatons and the south mark we got fish again yesterday for nothing. On the upside, weather was fantastic and a good day to be boating.
  23. We will be back out there again. Someone will find them and others will miss out. Good luck boys, I hope we all find them. Boat ramps are going to be hectic. Cheers.
  24. Found a few 10nm SSE of Heatons around lunchtime. Pulled a dolphin fish out of the school as well.
