Burley works well for the kings as long as they are in the area. Nothing like a hooked and panicky trevally or tailor to get the hoods exited and on the chew. Don't really burley to catch the kings but sooner or later they always show up.

You can get good pigs from there in the cooler months. If you are going to fish for black fish you will need to get an Alvey or similar. Just winch them up. it will also help with the drift control of you float.

Check with waterways, but I thought the bait grounds are still accessible, but have been deemed a 4 knot construction zone for an Energy Australia cable trench to Kurnell. That was my understanding of the info in the Southern Courier.

I still fish with Sydney Eastern Suburbs Anglers, and yeah, yakka's are Bung. I thought every one called them bung.

Go the 9 wrap, 7 inch Alvey, 70-80lb Shnieder with a red rock crap and smashed up urchins for burley. Wait till you see the Blue in the burley, get your fishing mate to get hold of you, drop the crab in front of him, and lock up on hook up. If you let go of the handle it will spin round and smash up your hands. Getting these fish is a brutal battle. All over very quickly, one way or the other.

Sammt the bloody seal stole 2 of our snapper of the Northern Beaches yesterday. Just played with them, chucking them about in the burley trail. Way to big to argue with.

I fish both regularly. There is certain areas boats really need to pay attention too. Particularly a well known spot on the mid north coast. The amount of solid fish that I have seen cut off by boats there is rediculous. Not happened to me yet but got lucky two seasons ago with a boat on the troll 300m off the ledge pulling up only a metre or two of my fish after everyone yelling and whistling for over 5mins. Happy ending on that one, seen plenty lost but.

Well known and highly frequented/crowded ledge. All pelagics that frequent NSW coast can be caught from there. The biggest problem is that it is way to easy to get to, thefore crowded.

Get some weed and stick floats for Blackfish in the Georges at some well known spots or other spots in the Harbour like Rose bay or the baths at Watsons bay. They should be around in reasonable numbers at the moment and a very good prospect for getting a feed. Catching blackfish in the Budgewoi channel on school holidays when I was really young is where I got started. I remember watching the old blokes gettin stuck into them while me and my old man were fishing with prwns and gettin nothing. Got talking to them,they gave me some weed and all we had were the old bubble floats that you adjust the flotation by letting more water into them. Within the hour we had four fish and I was hooked. That was the first time I ever remember actually catching anything.

That is correct. No boats. Not much water in it atm. So I guess one theory would have to suggest that the fish are in alot smaller paddock, so should be easier to get. There is some monster fish in that dam, so now might be the time to get'm.

The weather looks to be giving us with trailer boats a bit of a break this week. So what I really need to know is worth taking a sickie and heading on out there? Or should we save on fuel and pillies??

I always use them live baiting and floating baits on overhead lever drags. Just sit back and relax. When the ratchet starts screaming, casually pick up the rod and slide the reel into strike. HOOK UP. Does tend miss all the smaller fish that are only mouthing baits though.

Just checked out a few fish photo's on the net, so probably think the fish are Yakka's. Just remember fishing with an uncle when I was young, live baiting up at longy and started getting these big "yakka's" and him correcting me and saying they were Cowanyoung. Since then always thought the horse's were different to your stock standard bung.

I am not completely sure, but I think what you guy's are actually catching are called Cowanyoung. They are different to Yakka's ( yellow tail scad ). Check out fish book, maybe they are the same thing but I always thought they are different species/sub species. Anyone else any ideas??

Hi mate, you can fish the rocks. Never really fish the beaches, but I am sure tailor would be around at that time of year. Really warm water at the mo, so if it hangs in there get around to the front of Charlotte and do a spot of live baiting. The longtails never really showed up this year, but Cobes,Macks and Bonito will be around as long as the water does. You will get yakka's on jigs as the sun is coming up. If there heaps of slimies there your in for a good day. Some of the locals up there will have a better idea of the beach fishing activity at the time.Just make a day trip into a takle shop in Fozzie for what's happenning at the time. Cheers

Not quite. The rods are a bit longer. Get your mate to take you out a few times. Rigging is pretty simple and the most important bit is your bait catching ability. As well as the ability to drive for hours, sit on a rock for hours, and carry some large fish + your back pack on some pretty serious hikes. You will love it, just gotta get that first run. P.S Live baiting with a threadline don't work, you need an overhead preset at strike, but left virtually out of gear until it starts screaming away, then push into strike and hang on

Any one live baiting down there? Been getting some nice Mac Tuna up to 8kg amongst these massive schools of bonnies on the mid north coast. Losing heaps of livies , but if you keep feeding them out you eventually get connected to a tuna ( don't know what hapened to the Longtails this year, maybe it is about to happen)

White barrel and single hook. Simple and deadly. Works on oz salmon, kings, mac's,tailor,stripie's and bonito. The retrieve needs to be at light speed.
