  1. Thanks Kael. Yes I do tie my own. They are not all that hard to tie and the satisfaction that you get from catching a fish on something that you put together, be it ugly or not, is well worth it. I would love to see what you are chucking at the Bass down your way.
  2. Yep Bass on fly Top stuff give it a go. And yes Skipper.... I did get some famous mufins. But had no time to eat them
  3. 3:3o Sunday afternoon and the wife had had enough of my moping around and I was given my marching orders. I wasn't about to give her the opportunity to change her mind. Boat.... check Rods.... check Tackle box.... check flies.... check Stocked Impoundment permit.... Oh bugger expired last week....... Wife straight onto the computer, registered, paid for and printed.... covered for the next 12 months.... Check Coffee.... check.... made by the wife and handed to me on my way out the door. 60 Minutes later and I am reversing the boat down the Ramp at Cressbrook..... Where has all of the water gone? It is a little blowy so I head down the back to where I hope its a little more sheltered. First I try the foam popper that did it for me last week..... Bloop Bloop.... Bloop Bloop.... Nothing so I made a change to one of my Dahlbergs.... Bloop Bloop.... Bloop Bloop.... Woosh- Bang.... Missed.....Bloop Bloop.... Woosh Bang I’m on. Only small but on a fly that I tied myself what a buzz. I was only on the water for around 2 hours but I had a ball throwing my flies at Bass, and all on the surface as the sun went down. 8 fish all up nothing huge but all great fun Threw the Foam Popper back on.... It wasn't broken after all....
  4. You are flats fishing for southern species. Rip out your Bass poppers and give em a crack. Flatties, Bream and Whiting will all take a surface lure (and what a buzz that is) Try a few Dahlberg’s and Foam poppers. In order to get the tippet to turn over with the larger flies, stick with 10 - 12lb monno and shorten it to around 5ft (no need for a taper).
  5. Bloody El Skipper, great read and as usual top pics. It appears as though your whiting and the Bass up here have the same taste in surface lure.

    Batteries !

Mate Although they are a little more expensive go for a Deep cycle gel sealed battery as they are more forgiving when it comes to vibration and when you run them flat. Mine is a 120ah deep cycle and I get two days fishing out of it running a Motorguide 54lb and a 39l waco fridge. I was recommended a heavy duty charger with an Auto function that has enough boost (14.5v) to bring the battery back from flat and the ability to trickle feed the battery between trips with an auto cut off. If you pay a little extra and look after your battery it will last along time. Mine has been going strong now for nearly 5 yrs. Squizy
  8. Mate What a monster, great fish alright. I bet you will be going back there again. Squizy
  9. Mate Top Fish and a great looking Popper. Ian is a very lucky man to have a fishn buddy such as Dene. Squizy
  10. Mate I use 2lb crystal Fire Line on my xlight Bass top water outfit and have had no problems. I often use a 3lb mono leader of around 6' all on a 1-3kg Strudwick SPS Rod. 2lb fire line is just the thing to rocket those super light top water lures long distances. Stephen
  11. Happy birthday mate Have a great day Skipper. Hi to the family I hope you all had a great day yesterday and Santa was kind to you all. (Roberta you beat me to it. I forgot that fishraider posted Birthdays) All the best Squizy
  12. Well done, great Pics; That last one looks as though it would have been a handful.
  13. Well done Skipper!! What a blast. It sounds as though you had a ball. Rob is looking well, good to see. Maybe next time you can take a little local knowledge with you (if I am not working that is) and we can give it a nudge. It would be tops to show the lads how it is done, but on fly. Great read, love to the family and have a great Christmas.. Squizy

    Bimini Twist

I go with 21 in mono and fluro to 12lb and 31 in braid from 4 to 12lb. I haven't been let down yet. I also use a 21 turn bimini when I make my leaders for fly.

    Boat Ramps........

I fish alone most of the time and after a swim of around 50m (paramatta river mid winter) I started to use the anchor. It works just as well out of the water you know
  16. That’s Gold!!! A dry trip.... Nature has a way of humbling even the best of us on occasion. Unfortunately Nature humbles me most trips.
  17. Wow great effort, I have never fished for Squid; but would like to one day. I can just taste the Salt and Pepper Squid now Mmmmmm......
  18. Well Skip you never cease to amaze me... and what a colourful little fish.. Top one mate
  19. Well done Jake It sounds as though you had a great session. It won't be long and you will be giving hodgey tips.
  20. Great session Skip . I see Dene has taught you how to use the camera as we are now starting to see his mug on the site. Squizy
  21. G'day Brocky I don’t think it is all that difficult. You will need a charger with enough punch to lift the charge if your battery has been run down low, and one with a Trickle function that will cut out when the battery is up to charge. So you need a fully automatic charger. One of the biggest killers of batteries is over charging. When you constantly over charge deep cycle batteries this causes a build up of calcium on the plates, thus reducing the effectiveness of the battery; once the calcium from one plate bridges with that of another plate good bye cell and good bye battery hence the importance of a fully automatic charger. (I learnt this the hard way ) It is also a good idea to give the battery a good run every now and then and run it down before giving it a good charging. I am sure there is an Auto Elec or two on this site that could assist further. Squizy
  22. It almost seems a waste to cook something that unusually large!!
