  1. Chris, Thanks for that. Got some spare time Wednesday night, will post the result. Thanks again to all. CYA Geoff
  2. Sparky, dont worry about being rude. It's just the EGO thing, the two of us that own it can build maintain and race cars no drama so this thing is hammering our fragile ego's. Plus it's pissing us off as well. You may have the answer because even though we ran it for 20 minutes on the stands the water coming out of the cylinder head is COLD. Why didn't we think of that? Thanks heaps Geoff
  3. Hey all, got a mid 80's 70 HP Johnno that runs like a train but idles like a sh%^&*x. We can cruise at part or WOT any time and for any distance but as soon as we throttle back to idle to chuck the pick (or whatever) the engine stalls. Then it cannot restart unless you use the fast idle lever, and it splutters indicating a flooding situation before the engine clears. It is a bit of a worry when you are being blown onto rocks and the motor is not playing the game. We are currrntly running a 50-1 mix and there is no oil injection. It has tripple carbs. Now for the fun part, it ONLY does this in the water, on the trailer flushing the motor it will idle for 20 minutes (we timed it waiting for it to shut down, got the shits real bad and turned it off, hit the key and it fired and idled again, laughing at us all the time) Any suggestions would be most helpful. We have pulled the bowls of the carbs, checked filters etc all is clean and good. Thanks in advance Geoff

    Tilt/trim

Our Johnno did that two weeks ago, has worked fine then decided it would only go up, not down, traced power wire to soleniod and pulled switch apart, the rocker switch spring was lacking tension, gave it a stretch and presto, she worked again. Mind you we had to pull the complete throttle assembly apart to get to the switch, took a bloody hour for a 10 second fix (but it was cheap) CYA Geoff
  5. Man, that's waaay to smart, no wonder I never thought of it, but it sounds like it will work. Thanks again. Now, that uni knot, is it ok to join the braid to the mono on the spool and again the braid to the leader? Thanks for all your help so far. Geoff
  6. Thanks heaps guys, should get my new KING rod this week and then I can put it all together. Thanks again CYA Geoff
  7. So, if I'm using (for example) SP's chasing Bream and Flathead around Cowan and stuff what should I use? Currently I got 6 pound Braid and an empty spool. (not sure about backing etc) What should I use for a leader? or should I tie the lure strait to the braid, wow this is confusing but very informative. Thanks Geoff
  8. Parramatta River with SP's. Not played that game before so it will be interesting, somewhere round Ryde I believe. CYA Geoff
  9. Excellent, it works then, I have two girls 17 & 16. Remember this. A man who lives with three girls will surley go to heaven because God knows he has already lived in Hell. CYA Geoff
  10. Congrats on your efforts, how much fun is it hooking that first fish on plastic? Hope you get plenty more CYA Geoff
  11. Hey All, just got back from the trip with the wives, more bloody wind, I reckon worse than yesterday, got Whiting, Braem & tailor, nothing too exciting. We kept them alive and couldn't be bothered (the wind was s'house) so we jetted them and they all lived happily ever after. The wives love us, the prawns and steak are ready for tonite and I am gonna fall asleep in front of the footy (No Bloody Saints) Anyways we had a great weekend of fishing with family and friends, caught fish and no one got killed, that in my book is a success. CYA Geoff P>S The MSB were doing boat safety checks at ATB, love it, I think there should be more of it, thay had some real dicks there with no life jackets etc, good on the MSB. Yes, but no success, we drifted aross Patonga and got zip, tried the plastcis for zip as well, I think we were too far out from the beach, but the wind screwed up the drift anyways. CYA Geoff P.S Thanks to all the well wishers about our catch, we were pretty happy as well!!!
  12. Hey Guys, Finally got our "new" 4.5 Steber into he water for a test run and a test fish, put in at ATB about 6.30am, drove around for a bit just getting the feel of the boat before starting a drift in close on the eastern side noth of Cottage Point. Had usual baits, prawns, squid and Mullet strips and a range of soft plastics, Neither Jeff or myself had ever caught anything on the plastics before so we were a bit sceptical. We should not have been woried though, four nice flathead, three on black/silver thingies that Starlo & Bushie said would work did. Once we got the technique set we had a ball, the four were keepers, I dropped one at the boat and Jeff had two smaller (not legal) specimens. Biggest was 60 cm, 2 x 45 cm and one was 40 cm. Then the wind buggared the rest of the day. Going out again today, taking the lovely wives for a skid, around lunch time, more a sight seeing deal, to get some brownie points then it's full steam ahead. Go the soft plastics. CYA Geoff
  13. unsavoury characters, all of ya's, Wait till next year (AGAIN) CYA Geoff

  15. Coming over about 6, gotta get them decals, CYA all Then. Geoff
  16. Billfisher, Thanks for that, I honestly believe that there is no reason why a marine crank should cost that much. My engines see 9500 rpm to 11500 rpm, certainly in short bursts and with Alcohol for fuel oil dilution is extreme, as are the engine temps etc. There should be no reason for a crank to fail in any application if it has oil, the right balance and the right clearances. My mind was just wandering a little. We pay about $4500 for a crank that is a custom billet work of art, and gives us about 20 1/4 mile runs before needing to be binned. I think the statement about marine and jacking up the price seem to go hand in hand. We often see regular Chev V8 components cheap as chips but when you cross reference them through Mercruiser the price quadruples. Their trick is no warranty if it's not Mercruiser, even though GM made both parts with two different part numbers on them. Anyways Have a fun day. CYA Geoff
  17. We are the Saint George boys We had a win today We are the boys you know of We show them how to play No matter where you'll be The Red and White you'll see Now aren't we a wonderful credit To our locality As if there was ever any doubt. CYA Geoff
  18. Wow, does a crank really cost 2-3K, I would find it hard to justify that sort of price. What is so special about a marine crankshaft? I assume they are nitrided and internally balanced? What material are they made of? Are they forged, Billet or just a cast nodular iron? I'm interested now because I know what I pay for cranks for my race car and I KNOW the stress we put them through is far more that a marine outboard. Anyway just wondering.CYA Geoff
  19. How cool is this thread. I got a 1977 Les Paul (lawsuit model) Slick 59'r Ibanez (Black N Gold) and a 100w Marshall Valve/solid state deal. I started playing in my first band 1975 with a $20 special from the Blacktown Pawn Shop. Then I bought my Ibanez new from Rick at Neolett Harmoney House in the Singer Arcade at Blacktown and I still got it. I don't care what anyone says, a Les Paul through a Marshall is ROCK N ROLL. Cya Geoff
  20. John, I also live at Hassall Grove, same deal PM me if you want, my ally boat is being welded as we speak. CYA Geoff
  21. Cars aye, Drag Racing is my life, We compete as a family, make my living from drag racing and get to travel O/S at least once a year to be involved in drag racing. And we get to own some fast machinery as well. If you have never had the opportunity to see, hear and feel a nitro powered dragster you have something in life to look forward to. To feel your body shake, the ground shake and the nitro fumes make your eyes and nose run is amazing. And the alcohol fuel aint bad either. Go to www.dragsteraustralia.com.au for a look. That's what I do. That's my handle TAFC10, Top Alcohol Funny Car, licence #10 CYA Geoff P.S The fishing keeps me sane
  22. Magazine publisher, race car component importer and Drag Racer or as says Time and Money waster. Have a squizz at www.dragsteraustralia.com.au cya Geoff
  23. When I was a kid we used to catch them at Canton Beach at Toukley and at the Budgewoi hot water outlet by the bucket load. Dad used to skin them and BBQ them, tasted great if I remember rightly, used to use a float with a peeled prawn, and for a 10 year old they took off like a Top Fuel Dragster. It was a thrill for sure. CYA Geoff
  24. Apart from the obvious challenge to the recreational fisher what about guys like me who have a couple of holiday units that I rent out to fishermen in that area. The economic damage will be severe, bait and tackle, boat hire tours etc plus the real estate market. I wonder if there is any cash there to buy me out now that my potential income stream has been decimated. Plus I like to fish those waters myself. I suppose however before I go off half cocked I should look at a map of the actual marine park area. Any ideas whan this will become available and if it will be on line. Cya Geoff
  25. Hey Boppa, and another question PLEEEZE Do they really look at us and think what a bunch of wankers??????? CYA Geoff
