  1. Hey BB, I do have a few local stores that i go to buy tackle and tell them stories of the one that gets away. Mainly young blokes these days that tell you things (true or not true) jus to sell you something. You do get the odd bloke that is gunuine. But alot is about sales sales sales. IMO Ive rather ask ppl that can share there experiences and knowledge with no sales in-mind, then go in the tackle shops and see what they say. Then make my choice.
  2. hey tricks that one fat trevelly.. good stuff
  3. hey raiders, I think its time for a change for a new rods with my exist 2508. I own a SP outfit which is a shimano sysmetre 2500 with a Pflueger 6'0"" 2-4kg light fast action SP rod I often throw SP , abit of bait fishin and starting to usin little slugs. I've drop the shimano for the exist 2508 on this rod and i think i need a more tougher rod to match this ne reel. whats a good rod out there that i could match with it?? fishing is stated above.
  4. In this case how tight are the steering cables on a outboard motor?? If usin the steering wheel should it feel abit tight or jus loose when in the water?? Im goin for my 100hr service soon i might tell them to check it out.
  5. What a nice catch. I got a flatty exactly the same size as yours... gota be happy when you land one of those babies.. what were you using as bait ??
  6. Canies, My motor is down in the water but i have notices that my motor doesnt sit in the middle, the current normally pushes it to the left of right. I do try and keep the motor centered but sometimes the water is to strong and pushes it left or right.
  7. hey col, I give that a try next time when she is movin around. thanks for the tip I use a electric anchor winch so i tend to jus let out line to what i think is right. Ive read that i should let out 3 or 2 times the lenght of the rope to the depth of the water your anchoring in??? I was thinkin to measure my anchor rope and mark it every 5meters so gives me a indication on how much rope is let out.
  8. No it doesnt make a differents when fishing but its jus annoying. Well its good to hear but its normal to swing. I jus have to live with it i guess. thanks
  9. wow thats some nice looking fishes!! I only been to port hacking once, what worries me the most are the swallow waters but seeing fish like that i might have to study some of the water ways and get out there.
  10. Well if they can be hungry more like that when im fishing that be excellent.. I dont know if this was the case but strong winds = less boats= more chances of better fish?? i think i stay home when the sun is out with no wind...
  11. Ive got a pair of sony marine speaks 6" and i can say there are better sounding and louder compare to gme and axis speakers that ive brought in the pass!!
  12. Hey raiders, im kinda new to boating and this sence but ive had a issue with my boat for awhile now and its really gettin to me. Most times i drop a anchor to fish my boat seems to swing left to right , right to left. Is this normal ??? Am i lettin out to much or not enough line?? Or is it my design of the boat where the cabin acts like a sail so the winds pushes it around? I have a aluminum 5.3 half cabin boat with 4meter of chain with a plow anchor. Would a sea anchor help stop this swing?? Tho i really dont want to have one as i fish alot and wouldnt want any tangles from it. Any advice would be lovely..
  13. Nice read with nice fish.... ive yet to feel the power of a big Gt's i can only dream of it for now. only landed a 1kg baby off the navy wharf when i was in darwin.
  14. thanks guys, Caught the big flatty on live yakka at ther oil wharf , the rest was caught on slimmies (butterflied) around ther 3rd runway. All was weight down with pretty big sinkers due to the wind that night. I only started using a sliding snell rig, i would hook one under the dorsal fin (3 to 5mm from the top )and the other hook would be near his tail. Slimmies seem to be the favorite food that night , i be surely tryin to catch more of these babies as i ran out really fast that night.. Anyone know hots spots for these fish??
  15. Thanks MallacootaPete yes it feel bloody great. I hope there is more to come too.. pics are up now.
  16. hey raiders, This is my 2nd post on this site but 1st post in this section, so here is goes Headed out to the bay in the avro to find some kingies. After gettin some yakka's we went over to the oil wharf to cast our lives baits. First cast we landed this huge flatty 80cm 3.8kg, after that jus waitin around for some action to happen so i was chucking some slugs around and hooked up 4 slimmies about 30cms pretty chucking ones, one busted me at the boat. heaps of fun on 2-4kg out fit. . kept them all for bait. By 7pm the wind was picking up big time so decieded to head back in for some shelter at the 3rd runway. Anchored down to use our baits. had action pretty much straight away with this massive string ray, this thing was HUGE and ran like a truck . After 10mins of fighting finally got him to the top had a peek at him and cut the line. The next hook up i had i thought it was a another ray but when i had it to the surface it was my FIRST keepable jewie 86cm 5.5kg. very very happy with this catch. Few moments later i hoooked up again with another decent flattie 68cm 2kg. Things were heating up at this point i get another bite and it was another jewie but i got busted at the surface.....smaller then the first one i caught i thinks My other mate that i was fishing with had a 2 little runs with the live yakka but what ever it was, spat it back out. All in all had a great day/nights of fishing pictures coming soon.

  19. hey raiders, This is my first post on this forums but long time reader. Lots of great infomation/advice compare to the other one i surf so maybe you guys could point me in the right direction. Im keen on gettin a pair of downriggers for my 5.3 alumiumn (100hp) boat cause it seems ilike ts the way to go for kingfish these days. Ive been doin searching on this site and i know what i want (i think) A scotty 1050/60 electric , not really sure on what mount i should use yet trying to picture what would work best right now. As we all know buyin downriggeres in aussie shops are so overpriced!! Ive been reading on this forums that alot of guys get it from the states. Just wondering would anyone have links/contacts they could share with me?? perfered if they have personally brought it from that shop it self. Any help or suggestion would be great.
