  1. hi Yarraone i am going , i have been to the last 2. its a good fund raiser for the lagoon school. i didn't catch many last year but the year befor me and a mate won all the prizes in the adult section. the prizes are great to. as Yarraone said it would be good to see a few fishraiders out on the dam. all money is donated to lagoon public school. for those interested lagoon school has under 20 students, its a rural school and this is the major fundraiser for the school. it's a great family day out so bring the kids & see if you can catch a fish. thanks jim yarraone if I see your boat I will come & say hi
  2. hi roosterman i'm not much of a fish eater but most of my frends reckon there the best freshwater fish you can eat there not fatty like yellow belly
  3. hi spikey ben chiefly dam red fin can be a bit tepremental at times. the most luck i have had is in december and january. jiging and bait are the only way to go. to me trolling is a big wast of time unless you have a downrigger because the red fin sit on the bottom and lures wont dive deep enough to get to the fish. most fish are caught between 7 and 15 meters deep. you can still catch them in shallower water but you wont get as many. take a range of soft plastics red and white shads work the best for me, make sure you fish them on the bottom because if there not on the bottom you wont catch many.also take worms and fish them on a patanosta rig place your hook about 30-50cm above the sinker and drop it to the bottom. locating the schools of fish is the hard part. the front half of the dam is more productive for me. get a empty 1.25 soft drink bottle and tie about 30 meters of fishing line to it and tie a big snapper lead to the other end of the line this is your marker boy. drift around as SOON as you hook a fish throw in your marker boy this will mark the school of fish and then all you have to do is keep drifting past the boy every time you do you should catch a fish if you dont pull up the boy and try again. 103 is the best i have done in 4 hours and 82 in about the same amount of time and have caught between 20 and 70 many times. jim i might even take my boat out and have a fish to, i got a new downrigger i want to test out. let me know exactly when you will be there i might be able to meet up with you and show you a few places to fish 82 103

  7. hi Roffo people that do the wrong thing will eventually get caught. i will be waiting untill spring before trying tcd again. its a hard place to catch a fish this time of year. i will try catching a few red fin in ben chifley dam instead.
  8. went out to tcd last sunday and the sunday befor that for zip not a hit not even a follow. i walked all the way around the dam and tried everything celtas, tasie devils, minows ,deep divers, soft plastics, crayfish lures and a heap of others. had a chat to a few other fishos they all had the same answer as me zip no fish. there were two guys fishing in the same spot for ages we could see them standing there as we walked around the dam. as we got closer to them about 50m away they quickley packed up there gear i walked up to them and asked if they had caught any fish no was the answer and they walked off realy fast . my mate stoped were they were standing to have a few casts and found a hook and a few bits of green and orange power bait floating in the water as well as the gills and guts from at least two fish and from the size of the gills i would say the fish were under size. THE "BEEP BEEP". were are the fishing inspecters wen you want them. its a shame people like that stuff it for every one else. jim
  9. hi Swordfisherman Well done on the three fish . I was at thommos last monday hooked two and dropped them both so zero fish for my six hours. it was hard going,i think thommos starts to get hard to fish for the next few months because the trout are starting to spawn. I seen three big schools of fish witch to me means its breeding time. I think larger trout imitation lures will be the best for a chance at a few fish. The trout should be geting territorial so they will attack lures through aggression not hunger. thats from my experience at thommos. jim

  15. Hi OutdoorDan I was out there today as well ,i started at 6.00am and left at about 1.00pm . it was the calmest day i have seen out there for a wile , makes fishing hard when its like that. the trout seem very spooky. i caught one early in the morning up the back about 2lb released nice and healthy. first trout on on a tasse devil to usualy use a green, gold celta. once the sun came up over the dam wall they dident seem interested. a lot of follows but that was about it. due to the clear water and no wind i must of seen 30 or more fish as well as all the surfaceing fish. i caught another one about 35cm off the dam wall on my way back to the car ,released as well. it was a lot of casts between fish but thats fishing.its all fun. jim
  16. hi kruzenvax i bought the stradic 2500fi a couple weeks ago it says in instruction manual it has waterproof drag . its a great reel caught a few trout on it allready. brought it to replace my old 2000 model after 12 years the handle starts to spin backwards when a fish starts to pull drag. jim

  18. Hi Breambusters, I was the other keen fisho out there that day, I was glad to see that I wasn't the only mad one there. It was the coldest April day recorded in 60 years. I arrived at 6.30am & left at about 3.30pm after walking all the way around the dam 11.8 klm on the gps.I hooked 4 fish but could not stay conected. The green & gold celta just woulden't stay hooked.Apart from cold fingers, ears & nose i still enjoyed myself. I had all my luck on anzac day, 7 landed 4 droped all were rainbows. That day i walked all the way around the dam as well greate exercise in between landing fish. I added some pics of the larger trout the other fish were only small about 25 to 30 cm
