  1. Been throwing a lot of light sps around lately and am loving the daiwa gen black fast taper good for casting sps and hooksets
  2. Motor oil is a great colour I use it a lot along with greasy prawn in 2.5in grubs
  3. My flats outfits have 3lb powerpro braid and 4lb fc rock leader and I rarely lose a lure but I constantly check my leader after every fish and if I've had to drag it through a bit of weed I also change my leader before every trip and use a slim beauty knot as I haven't felt the need to change to any other A mate of mine swears by 2lb fireline he loves it for flats and weed edges
  4. My biggest flattie at 95cm came on an ecogear vx40 blade while blading for bream around bait schools in 30ft of water
  5. Did they also tell you the hot pink ones lol Shallow water flats I used smaller lures best combo was a pink tilson minnow with a brown firetiger attack behind it also got quite a few bream trolling that combo Old school is when I was throwing abu killers(still have one) around in the late seventies as a teenager
  6. Used to use Manns stretch 5s and 10s not sure if you can still get them The way to do it to troll the deeper lure close to the boat but still sporadically hitting the bottom and the shallower lure 3m behind it There's heaps of lures in those depth ranges Use them to troll drop-offs on an out going tide On high tides troll the flats but drop the lure depths to maybe 6ft and 2ft
  7. Try dropping your leader down to 3lb fluorocarbon about two rod lengths or fish it straight through Lures I would try are gulp crabbies or worms on a hidden weight jighead cast out and let sit with an occasional shake of the rod tip or small sinking stickbaits in clear colours slowly twitched
  8. If you are using fluorocarbon for leader or mainline you can drop down your size as the fluorocarbon has a much tougher outer coating than mono My flattie outfit has 5lb braid and 10lb fluorocarbon leader and I haven't been bitten off yet
  9. There is a small sand boat ramp in Simpsons bay at Bundeena
  10. Shads lures in the 4in paddle tail colours ayu and mullet have been working really good for me in the Georges
  11. That's a lot of kms on open water about 45kms out to Lady Musgrave from 1770 and then 50kms south to the shoals Anyway winter has good runs of red emperor red throat and big snapper on the southern reefs along with various other reef fish
  12. I used to fish tournaments a while back for several years and I would advise if you want to start is join ABT and fish tournaments as a non boater for the rest of this year and as well as that do as much bream fishing in your boat as possible but fish tournament hours 7am - 2pm I have a few bream lures but there is no magic one you just need to match the lure to the conditions and what available food is in the area
  13. Sinking stickbaits deadly little lures been using them for a while
  14. Just to add to this lightly sand the fiberglass then clean it with prepsol before applying the gelcoat to get good adhesion to the fiberglass
  15. Been rather busy building this prototype
  16. Wouldn't be complaining about the bycatch Its an oceanic queenfish doesn't grow much bigger than 50cm
  17. Huge fan of GOT and Vikings and also another show called Black Sails which I watch online don't know if it is on any stations here but worth looking up
  18. I would have four rods rigged for the harbour pontoons and boat hulls 2inch camo gulp crabbie rigged on a 1/28th hidden weight jighead 2inch green pumpkin bulky hawg on a 1/16th jighead Atomic ghost gill brown hardbody deep Austackle shinku colour bondi brown
  19. I tend to go max hp but I carry a bit of gear and a big boofhead mate but I have seen a lot of boats with recommended hp being underpowered
  20. Ive had one since sept 2013 and love it I do fish out of it by myself at times and drive it on and off the trailer It handles chop and boat wash really well Worst Ive had it in was punching into a 20kn+ south westerly from Molineax point to the Georges river brought it up onto the plane kept it trimmed all the way in and punched straight through it Mine is a side console though with a 50hp 4st yammie
  21. Sure is and is good bait for trolling for spaniards
  22. Very interesting read and a good reason to change your leader before each trip and maybe after a big fish http://activeanglingnz.com/2016/01/04/the-fluorocarbon-myth/
  23. Changes depending on time of the year but at the moment its the squidgy prawn 65mm in cracked pepper fished on a jighead or hidden weight depending on water depth So far in the last few weeks it has accounted for bream whiting EPs flathead tailor trevally and flounder
