I was browsing through some old pics on my computer and stumbled accross a trip to SWR last year, It was actually an afternoon stopover whilst on the way to meet the family for a holiday in Port Macquarie, me and a friend decided we would pop in and have a quick fish. Nothing too exciting, a few kings, tuna and flattie. For those of you that have never been there, do yourself a favour and take the time to visit. Its lovely!. Video can be found here

Hi Mate, the only popper King i have caught has been on a red head Halco Rooster Popper. Havent tried anything else. Red and white, add that to your collection!

Hard to tell the exact type of fish but i can assure you they are decent fish! I would have a nice big Gulp in that right away!

Just remember 9 times out of 10 your retrieving lures from 60+ meters jut to get the lure back to the boat for another drop.....High speed has a great advantage here, just means you need to be a bit more careful how you fight the fish cause the high speed can put extra pressure on the fight. I personally like high speed reels for Jigging and have an old Shimano Speedmaster that is a favorite!

marlin wharf is the main marina at cairns, whilst fishing is prohibited there, you can walk a little further west (if your looking at the main marina) and there are some quieter spots. i dont think your meant to flick there but no one really says anything cause its out of the way. They dont like you flicking near the main wharf though. go see the tackle shop, there is a good one as you head to the northern beaches about 6K out of town. Good luck, Cairns is a wonderful place.

Hi Dave, my boat has a thru hull type and works a treat. I dont know what the advantage of either would be other than the aesthetics of a thru hull definitely looks the part. I would imaging there is a lot more involved in setting it up this way also, driling through a hull seems wuite scary if your not a professional... Let us know what you end up doing. Billyd
