hi guys, not sure if anyone will be able to help me or not but I'll try anyway. I've just moved over to the UK and I've noticed a few good looking streams that hold trout. As I'm from Sydney, I have no idea about anything to do with flyfishing but I am dead keen to learn. I'm thinking of buying some sort of starter kit but as to what it should include I don't know. Maybe some of you flyfisherman out there might know. Where do I start? Or does anyone know any good websites similar to this about flyfishing in England? Awsome catch and release mate. I used to lure the hell out of that place and never got a strike. I concluded that the water was too clear but you've certaintly proven that theory wrong. Well done. I remember once using live poddies down there and something picked my bait up and kept going...... bang spooled and that was the end of that. Nice place down there. G'day everyone, Some of you might remember I'm off to England in a couple of days so I was hoping to finish off in style with my first Jewie. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and my final effort last night came up with the same result as previous attempts. A big fat "0". Did everything right again, fresh bait, right time, right tide but as usual the Wanda Jew didn't come out to play. As this will be my last report for some time, I wish to thank everyone who has helped me attempt to catch one of these silver monsters. I only wish I could have captured that beast for you all. I know alot of you were hoping the same for me but it wasn't to be. I had already planned my first successful jewie report but I'll keep it for a rainy day. A special thanks to Jewgaffer, Jewhunter and a hand full of other guys who I learnt alot from over the last year or so. I will still watch this site with interest and my only wish is that people relise they don't need to keep every Jewie they catch. I would like to think that if I return one day, there will still be that chance of capturing that fish of a lifetime off the beach. Cheers Nathan,

yeah mate I hear your pain. I'm from the shire and land based. Down here I'm finding that I'm putting more hrs in trying to catch squid than I am fishing with them. Most I've ever got is 2 in 2hrs solid squiding. Most get 1 or none though. Nath

Well finally I have a semi decent report to put together. Fished the usual Wanda last night from 630 till 930pm. Had 2 rods out with fresh squid. Nothing for the first hour then managed a regular size tailor. Slabbed him up and out it went then nothing again till about 9pm. The rod buckled over and I thought I was in bussiness with my first Jew. Didn't feel that big but I was still hoping to see some silver none the less. After a few minutes landed a beautiful looking shark about 750mm - 800mm long. Thought it was a whaler of some sort, as I had seen one much bigger caught on Fri night. On closer inspection I think it may have been a gummy if that is possible off Cronulla? It had a greenish tinge to it. As it was pulled onto the beach the hooks fell out which made it a perfect candidate for a good release. Off it swam no harm done. 10minutes later the rod went again, only this time it stayed down. Right from the start I was pretty confident it was some sort of ray. This thing would not budge at all. Then the game started. It would take off then bury itself. This happend repeatedly when I thought back to what Neil off Adventure Bound had said. Give it slack and it will think it's free again. Anyway after atleast half an hour of arm straining It came to the beach. It was a sting ray alright, a big one, but I had to know before it snapped me off in the shore break. I have to admit, it felt good to be connected to something big, even if it was a nasty old ray. Are Jews still around off the beaches or is it now to cold? Nath

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has caught anything off Wanda recently. I've been a few nights with fresh squid but haven't managed anything at all. Last night looked the goods and I did see a bloke pull in a whaler that was atleast 1m long if not more. (sorry for blowing your seceret mate if you're reading). I'm still living in hope of that ever elusive Jew. Cheers Nath.

I pin my yaka through the back just below the lateral line. I've found if done correctly, they will die of old age unless something should happen to grab them first. I've even let them go after an unsuccessful jew session. Not sure if they've survived though. I found in summer, if I rigged it wrong it dies quickly then gets hammered by tailor. Nath

nar nothing else on sun night. Usually I would catch tailor but the last few times I've been out I have returned with out so much as a nibble. I think maybe the water temp has dropped and so the fish have dropped off the bite. Definately a decline in fish activity since winter hit. nath

Mate I have fished the hell out of no 7 walkway with no result. I have however seen them caught around there though.

Thanks guys, most of you have abeen regular contributors to my questions. I feel like I owe it to all of you guys who have helped me. I leave in 11 weeks and counting. Which gives me 2 full moons and 2 new moons. Bit worried about the August winds though off the beach.

G'day all, tried again for a Jew last night in a gutter at Nth Cronulla beach. Same old same old not a touch for 2hrs then suddenly the big moment I've been waiting for, for nearly 2 years. I'm starting to dose off in my chair when the rod goes bananas and line starts peeling off. Finally that sound I've been hearing in my sleep...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Two short burst of drag getting pulled brings my heart rate up to about 100 beats a minute and in a split second I'm out of the chair and have rod in hand. I'm telling my self, "This is it, don't stuff it now or you may never get another shot." As I'm yet to hook a jew, I'm unsure on how the feel to be connected to. After 1 or 2 minutes, my fishing experience tells me this is no Jewie. The heart rate falls and with a few minutes I have a banjo shark on the beach. After an easy release I'm atleast happy to get some sort of action after hrs of nothing, even if it was just a ray/shark. Nath.

Did the hard work sat arvo, caught 3 good mullet and a garie for my jew baits. Hit Wanda later that night. Decided a change in tactics was required so I fished the run out to till about 1030pm in a gutter in front of the resturant. Very cold night. Same result as usual though, not even a nibble at any of my baits. I'm thinking it's getting too cold now for Jews anyway. Has anyone else caught any off the beach recently? Nath

guys would yellow tail take a (little bright coloured beads and several hooks) jig? Or is a small hook with bread the best chance? Thanks Nath. P.S. I promise to thank you all one day if I do get this jewy. I know I ask alot of questions.

Guys just wondering if anyone could suggest any spots to catch live bait for jew, ie yellow tail or squid. I'm shore based in the Shire. Currently struggling to get any squid or live tailor. Please pm me if you don't mind sharing your spot. It's not my intension to clean you out just a coulpe of livies is all I'm after. Thanks. Nath
