  2. Gday there Ross , I agree thier are alot of undersize Kings There at the moment . I was in the Army boat and my other mates were in the Proline on saturday arvo . Saturday morning was the pick of the day lots of Kings biting . Sunday was also a good morning a few legals but lots of throwbacks , didnt take long for my novice mate to change from bottom bashing to jigging and landing his first king ever on Jigs on sunday. Cheers dogtooth John.
  3. Sorry to hear the bad news.... It is a shame there are people out there that go to these levels . I always lock my esky and chain it to my bbq and gas bottle just to make it hard . Must robbieries at campsites are just alcohol so we always leave a bottle of jim beam filled with tea and you know what , out around our camp table and its supprising that it always gets taken. Hope your next camping trips are less stressfull.. Cheers Dogtooth John...
  4. After hearing the reports of the great white in the entrance lake i wasnt suprised , as in 2005 there was a 2 metre great white caught there . have a look at this old link . So if there is 1 im not going to doubt 2 or more.... Will try and find a pic... http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,16721989-1242,00.html Cheers Dogtooth...
  5. Hi there rhino , I have the sensabrake unit fitted on my trailer and in the car , It works a treat and everyone that i have spoken to that has one has nothing but praise for these units . . Cheers dogtooth
  6. Hi AJ , STEP 7 IS IMPORTANT . PETROL MEANS FIRE. DO NOT START ENGINE TILL ALL STEPS COMPLETED. First step . 1 . Trash the fuel , and refill tank with good stuff.. 2 . Undo fuel filter on the side of motor if it has one , and empty and clean it . ( do not reinstall yet ). 3. look for a screw on the bottom of the carbie , could be on the side this is carbie drain plug . ( remove do not reinstall yet ). 4. Now pump some good fuel from your tank till a fair bit comes out where your filter is . ( reinstall filter ). 5 . pump some more fuel till a fair bit comes out of your carbie drain . ( reinstall carbie plug ) . 6 . You have now eliminated any water in you fuel system . 7. NOW GRAB SOME DEGREASER AND HOSE AWAY ANY FUEL THAT IS SITTING AROUND THE BOTTOM OF YOUR ENGINE , WITHOUT WETTING ELECTRICAL PARTS . 8 . Check spark plugs and if good . She should fire up and run well. Cheers Dogtooth .. John
  7. Top report guys . Hope to hear many more. Cheers Dogtooth.. John.
  8. Hi there boofhead . Try and stick with mono its better for stretch, and a lot easier on large fish . Also try and spool up with a good tough line like tortue . It just may save your prized catch as it trys to rub you off on the boat in the last stages of the fight or get worn away from the constant rubbing of its tail on a 2 hour fight . Just remember a 60 kg yellowfin is over 1.5 metres long so if your trace is not that long than your mainline will be getting rubbed the entire fight . Now a long trace is good when fighting your fish but may also cost you in the later stages as once your swivel gets to your rodtip you are in the hands of the trace man and he may not be your friend on the day , especially if he has no experience . Another option is a wind on leader 100 lb to 130lb is fine that way you can control the fish all the way to your rod tip and its just you and the fish , and no one has to touch the line. Hope this helps Cheers Dogtooth .. John
  9. Only problem with fishing these days with coloured braid is that the leatherjackets seem to like eating your braid , especially when jigging deep water . If you stick to the dark colours black or dark green there is no problem with them. There is no point in spending good money on braid so as the leatherjackets can eat it . Wish they would go away..... Cheers Dogtooth John.
  10. Nice fish There fishmaniac Yes care should be taken at all times at sea . Just rememder a kicking tuna is dangerous in any boat . Next time just give them a few belts with a fish donger on the top of the head just behind the eyes as soon as they are on board preferably while they are still attached to the gaff . This calms them down and improves the meat , remember the less they thrash around the boat the less your prized meat is damaged . once this is done then the fish can be bleed . And always remove hooks using pliers its not worth a hook in your hand , if its to deep cut your line and remove it later. You only make a mistake once , and its a lesson , good to see the injury wasn't worse. Hope this helps Cheers dogtooth John..

  14. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BYRON... Will catch up for that jewfish sesion soon just a bit busy chasing tuna... Cheers Dogtooth ... John..
  15. Well i was lucky enough to be on board a charter out of kiama to witness some great Bluefin tuna fishing. The day started off pretty slow with a small albacore around 6 kg then a small yellowfin around 20 kg . Then out of nowhere the tiagra 80w growled with anger and a solid fish was hooked , it wasnt long and we had colour and to our amazement a bluefin was soon boated , at around 35kg high fives all round it was a top capture . From that moment it only got better soon five guys were on and giant bluefin were swimming around the boat next fish boated was around 25kg and another bluefin . Then a 56kg fish was boated on a satiga 6500 and a custom rod in 30 minutes , a top effort ... At least 8 guys lost top fish as some of the guys fished with braid rubbed there lines and the end result cutoff there mates fish . My suggestion when fishing with your mates for tuna leave the braid rods at home. It saves the heartache and lost fish stories . The last fish boated was another 56kg tuna and fought like a stuburn bull , it took 2 hours to subdue on the 80w tiagra. Some of the fish that were swimming around the boat made the tuna we caught look small . well four lucky guys got to join the eastcoast bluefin club ... Cheers Dogtooth John. BLUEFIN 35 KG BLUEFIN 56 KG caught on saltiga 6500... 2 HOURS 56 KG BLUEFIN 4 Bluefin on Deck
  16. As Mentioned below by Tryhard these traps work really well. The only thing i used to do was seal the inverted ends using a stapler . That way you can undo the staples at one end to empty the mullet and restaple to start bait catching again.... Happy fishing ... John.
  17. I Have manual alvey winches myself, one reefmaster 12 inch and one reefqueen 14inch , i find the 12 inch better in rough conditions as it is one handle operation , and find that the ratio is easier to wind. As for electric , the miya epoch is a top reel ,spooled it up with 3000 metres of 200lb braid , used one last week and boy was it great to use . Will be down the coast next week using my mates , top investment if you ask me ... Keep you posted Cheers .. John Miya Epoch . X 20.
  18. Nice Fish , Its good when Browns has top fish on it well done.. His next fish should be a Huge Bass or Hapuka.. CHEERS ... John..
  19. Went out of kiama on tuesday in search of a few blueye cod . We decided to head south looking at the sounder and plotter untill we found somewhere that looked promising . Caught a few fresh striped tuna which were a bonus as nothing beats fresh bait . Found a nice spot on the shelf in around 500 metres of water and decided to have a drop . So down go the baits in search of blueye , it doesn't take long and both lines are on . our first drop and were on , one of the fish seems like a bass groper and is fighting non stop . Now our lines are only 40 metres from the boat with good fish on both . When out of nowhere a pack of six KILLER WHALES decides to eat our fish like its a seaworld show .... All we end up with is bare hooks and lost fish. . We decide to drop again and both lines are on . Now we are still in awe at what just happened and what we just witnessed. our lines are coming up from the depths again and when our fish are 40 meters from the boat our fish are attacked again by KILLER WHALES all we end up with is one head and a mangled blueye. . . It is now decided that its time to move before we are on the meal list . We decide to move spots and end up with a feed of blueye and sea perch by the end of the day and an amazing fishing story to tell... Heres a few pics cheers Dogtooth.....
  20. Hi Johblow, The Professional fisherman that you are on about have over 50 years of fishing in Hat Head. They put Hat Head on the map. The Ocean Haul net they use is used off the main beach this is perfectly legal and is not used in the creek. There is still heaps of fish in the creek , if you snorkel up the creek you will see what i mean. You are not going to catch fish during holiday period with 1000 kids and tourists swimming in the creek. Definately more people than in the 1960's . So next time your Buying ice, prawns , bait or fish cause you can't catch any fish in the creek off the local pro let him know your opinion instead of talking about the guy on here. "I hope you can run fast or duck." Merry Xmas John.
  21. nice catch Those pinkies are awsome chewing.
  22. Yeah the bouy is still there. I fished it on tuesday and it held a few fish but there was no size, biggest 1-2 KG. Lots of fun on the bream gear. Cheers Dogtooth
