  1. at this stage the trailer is going to cost me an extra $1000 (is this a good price for a trailer?)

Kirill. Is $1000 the price for a trailer from China. Does it include brakes. Rigs over 750kg need brakes to be registered in NSW.

Talking about Rego , have you checked out the Waterways requirements / specifications to register a boat.

Check with the RTA. They have very specific requirements for trailer design , lighting , specification plates etc , etc. & will require personal inspection prior to considering regerstration.

To have a trailer made in Oz for this size boat I think you will find it is in the $2000 - $3000 bracket.

Ring a few trailer places , they would give you a better indication.

Cost is now heading into the low $30's. considering the risk , this may not be looking such a great deal

  2. Also raises the question , if they are " so good " & the imported price , ie all up price boat , freight , insurance , duty & clearence ( delivered to your door) is competitive then why has no dealer importing

Checked with our customs broker , duty is 5% of the FOB price , ie the cost to buy the boat & get it on to a ship plus 10% GST on the above . Seafreight from China to Oz also attracts 10% GST

Add to that the cost to clear the shipment from the ship in Sydney & delivery to your home. Allow $1500.

As for the sea freight , ring around to some freight forwarders for a price . Suggest you go for a FCL price (full container load) but talk to the forwarder , they can advise the best method.

So............. say the boat cost $20,000 ex the factory

    Freight from the factory to your door + taxes + crearence + insurance , estimate , $6 - $7,000

  3. Hey all,

I am going down the south coast on Wed for 4 days of Fishing around Eden.

Will be taking my 5.8 Haines.

HAs any1 been there, know some local knowledge or vouch for the GPS marks?

I am keen to try for some big snapper, big kingies and well anything big!!

    Cheers

    Brown Hornet.

I fished Eden last Easter. If your not aware , the boat ramp is a few k's south of town off the highway , ramp , parking & facilities are very good .

In respect to fishing spots we fished off the northern headland of Twofold bay for a mixed bag.

There is a book available from most tackle stores called Sydney & South Coast GPS Spots. The book lists 10 locations there is 1 just south of TF Bay for Snapper called South Head Wide

  4. Tks for the response guy's .

Mottyman ( David ) & I fished out of Oatly on Saturday. Tried CC bridge , nothing. The wind was very strong & extreamily cold.

Headed up river tried Kangaroo Pt , zip , then up to the Moons. Fished for several hours , a few fish but no keepers.

The cold weather was making the situation most uncomfortable so called it a day around 1.00pm

  5. This is perhaps not the correct location for this post but just courious to know who the fellow Raider was on Bestic St , Kyeemagh today at 1.00pm towing a Blue Fin 5.2 with a fish raider sticker on the side.

I was in the next lane waiting to turn right . There was a car in front of me so unable to pull aside & say Hi

  6. hi guys great site

i am just getting right into fishing could anyone help me with some good fishing shore spots around

tom uglys bridge and brigton le sands / want to fish tommorow / type of bait any ideas would be great thanks

    :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: great site again

    :1welcomeani::1welcomeani:

Tom Ugly's , On the northern side , there is an off ramp when heading south. The car park area at the bottom is popular. With the tide rushing through it is better to fish approx 1/2 an hour each side of high or low tide

Brighton Most places along the beach can be productive. Try some of the rock walls that extend out into the Bay

Bait Fresh prawns or worms are are good all rounder

    Regards

  7. Hired a houseboat with my mate Robert & young son Simon this week , Monday to Thursday

What a great way to explore the river & fish , fish , fish. So convienent , fish out the back , fridge & kitchen only a metre or so away & if feeling a bit tired lay down for a short kip.

We left Brooklyn mid morning Monday & headed down river to Cowan Creek. Bumpy ride down , driving into a stiff Southerly but once in Cowan , smooth sailing.

Into Jerusalem Bay & tied up to one of the public morings in Pinta Bay. Into the fishing , heaps of bait fish , caught a few Yakka which were hooked onto heavy gear looking for a big Jew. Unfortunatly they did not want to play  but nice sceenry to pass the time

    post-731-1160778630_thumb.jpg

Tuesday , left the bay & headed back up river stopping along the way to fish , result 1 30cm Flattie.

Past Milsons Island to Bar Point for a few drifts , no action.

Into Berowra & droped the pick in Bennetts Bay. As night fell the surface activity increased with fish , I think Tailor , all around. Do you think they would take a bait , not a touch. Later in the night Rob hooked onto what looked like a large cat fish. We parted companyat the side of the boat.

In the morning Rob took Simon for a row around the bay

    post-731-1160779467_thumb.jpg

We motered up to Spencer which was as far as we were allowed to take the boat. Did a U turn , back down to Pumpkin Point , pick down for the night.

The action was a bit better with several rays & small Pt Jackons sharks & in the morning 2 nice Bream on going 36cm which was a PB for me

    post-731-1160780021_thumb.jpg

Thursday , up anchor & motored back to the marina , stopping along the way & picking up a small throwback jew.

Arrived back around 1.00pm , unloaded & headed for home.

What a great 4 days :yahoo:

For those that may be interested , we hired a 4 - 6 berth from RIPPLES , comfortable with 3 on board, 4 would be OK , more than that , very squeezy. Cost , all up inc food & running cost , approx $1000

Looking foward to the next one

  8. fisherman I challenge you to find someone even online in a forum that has had an outboard damaged from a lack of flushing. Most commercial operators or police, coast guard etc... never flush their motors, granted they use them very regularly so corrosion never has enough time to take place, but my point was that missing the odd flush is no major drama.

Bashir The main issue is not the constant use in salt water but the salt build up inside the motor when it is stored for periods of time. Progressivly this enhances the corrosion & also effects the cooling.

On a different note , wheels , springs & brakes can be equally important & should be washed if possible.

I would be doing some research on rain tanks & pump. There are a heap to choose from both in volume & shape. They are not all that expensive & rebates are available.

  9. Hi guys my local fishing shop is holding a free seminar for members this thursday night, speakers include Gary Brown and Scott Lyons. Just wondering if any of the other raiders from the area were attending? It will be good to say gday and meet a few raiders.

    Cheers

gio Are you reffering to Thursday 28th Sept. If so , what time. Where is your local fishing shop

    Geoff

  10. Left Cooks around 6.45am & headed to the 3rd runway. Drifted in on the S/W wind , yep , the weather man got it wrong. Predicted N/W. Not to worry

    Result , one small red..

Moved around M.P. into Yarra bay for some squid & livies. Not a sausage. 2 other boats near by , same result .

Motored across the bay & outside. Heaps of boats , other than a 1.3mt Wobby shark no action :mad3:

Drifted over Watts Reef & into the bay , no improvement. Boats around us , same story :05:

Down to Towra , tried several spots for one small flattie.

    1.00pm , called it a day.

The water was a bit chilly , perhaps that did not help , just have to try another day

  11. We used the beach ramp both days as the river ramp was to low in the morning.

Launching and retrieving was pretty good except for sunday arvo when the wind was up :1yikes:

Apparently funds are been raised to redevelop the beach ramp, but the one that faces side on to the open sea. Good to hear facilities are going to be improved, but in a decent swell/wind, retrieving boats would really be a pain in the arse.

SK Tks for the feed back. The new ramp has been on the drawing board since the 90's. One of the main problems is the opposition of the locals. They like their little corner of the world & prefer not to encourage tourist therefore tend to appose any development.

At one stage , perhaps it is still the case , there was to be a retaining wall to provide protection from the sea , in particular N/E winds which blows directly onto the beach ramp

Shadda It has been a few years since I have been there so unless conditions have changed there is no bar at the creek entrance. There are occusions when the sand tends to build up near the entrance making it shallow but a good rain storm washes it away on the out going tide

  12. hey geoff is that a webster twinfisher? nice ride!!

I normally fish botany bay, although I'm still a novice. Last weekend was pretty productive. There is heaps of salmon lurking around, and the trevs are never far away.

I know of a few kings that have been caught just outside the heads over the past couple of weeks too

Tks for the advice , see how we go , perhape a trawl around the heads & keep our eye out for the birds chasing bait fish.

Yes , it is a Webster. very pleased with the ride & overall performance. Do I recall correctly , you were looking at buying one . How is it progressing or did you decide on something else

  13. Currarong , one of my favourite spots on the south coast. My parents had a holiday house there for about 10 years so know the area well.

Have not been there for a few years. Did you launch from Currarong , if so what are the facilities like these days.

We used to time our outings so launch from the beach at low tide & retreive from the caravan ramp at high tide

A fair amount of the area is now marine park so some of the better spots around the cliffs are not accessable. It's good they left the Banks out of the park..

  14. its real lazy goeff, simply tie a loop in th line pass it through like a dropper pass the line down to the spikes then wrap it once around 1 spike on the main line to hold it against the line then down to the next and repeat etc.

i found if you just have them hanging loose they will tangle so keeping them tight against the line is similar to a daisy chain.

hope you can understand that i've had a few :beersmile:

Brian Thanks for your response . Understand your description , tied nose to tail, will give it a try

    Geoff

  15. Brian Could you expand on your comment

I have had a daisy chain type rig with 3 different sized squid jig (biggest on the bottom about 1/2 mtr apart) just bouncing along just off the bottom.

Do you mean a dropper rig (ie Snapper rig)

If I recall correctly "Daisy Chain" was when the stem of the second daisy was placed in a small slot near the end of the stem of the first & so on until all the flowers were linked together

Is this what you are reffering , if so how do you link them together
